Abstract

Early childhood is a crucial stage for children's growth and development. Through play, various aspects cognitive, social-emotional, physical-motor, language, moral, and spiritual develop significantly. Appropriate stimulation and attention can positively influence these developments. This study aims to explore the implementation of play-based methods to improve children's learning concentration at TKIP Ummul Mukminin, Katapang District, Bandung Regency. Employing a qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews and direct field observations. The research focuses on how the play method is applied, along with its strengths and limitations in enhancing concentration. The findings reveal that children's concentration levels vary according to individual characteristics. However, after implementing the play method, most children showed improved concentration during learning activities. The establishment of classroom agreements and rules also contributed to a more conducive learning environment. Strengths observed include increased curiosity and enthusiasm, leading to optimal learning outcomes. On the other hand, challenges remain, such as classroom layout issues (minimal partitions causing distractions) and inconsistent parental discipline at home, which hinders the reinforcement of structured behavior in school

Abstract

This study aims to analyse various publications related to research discussing play activities in early childhood in Indonesia during the period 2015-2025. The research approach used in this study was qualitative, with a literature review based on data obtained from the Scopus database using Publish or Perish software. The results of the study show that publications related to play activities in early childhood in Indonesia occurred mostly in the period 2022-2025, with the highest number in 2025, namely 20 studies. After analysing the literature sources related to play in early childhood, the focus was on aspects of child development, which consisted of 11 studies. Thus, these findings illustrate that research related to play activities provided to children is still limited to the form of developmental stimulation. As a follow-up, the researchers hope that there will be more research that prioritises play activities as a child's right or children's wellbeing.

Abstract

This study examines the role of foster parents in shaping the social interactions of children living in the Indonesian Orphanage Foundation (PYI) Bojongsoang, Bandung. The background of the study lies in the social adaptation challenges experienced by children upon entering the orphanage environment. The objectives of the study are to (1) describe the characteristics of children’s social interactions in the orphanage, and (2) analyze the role of foster parents in the process of developing these social interactions. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Data was collected through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews with three foster parents and seven foster children, as well as documentation of daily orphanage activities. Data analysis followed the reduction–display–verification cycle (Miles, Huberman & Saldaña). The main findings include: (1) new children’s social interactions initially tend to be passive, isolated, and influenced by habits formed prior to entering the orphanage; (2) foster parents implemented several strategies, namely (a) ritual modeling (joint religious practices), (b) habituation through daily tasks (promoting independence), and (c) providing guidance and emotional reinforcement; (3) the combination of these strategies effectively increased children’s social interaction frequency, self-confidence, and cooperative skills, although the adaptation process requires time and individualized approaches. The study concludes that the role of foster parents is significant in facilitating children’s social transitions within the orphanage. Practical recommendations include the development of adaptation-orientation programs, parent training for foster parents, and further research using a mixed-methods approach.
