Abstract

Introduction: Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) collaborate in order to weaken the immune system and increase the burden of both illnesses. Macrophages as the first intracellular niche against Mtb infection, are also involved in the persistence of the HIV infection, and may have an important role in the of tuberculosis (TB)-HIV co-infection. Improved knowledge of the macrophage function and pathogenesis dynamics may contribute to the development of newer and better diagnosis technique, prognosis assessment, and therapeutic intervention. By monitoring changes in the expression of molecular targets, macrophage identification methods that use molecular imaging techniques for cell image analysis can efficiently provide important information about macrophage biology and evaluate early response to therapy, which can facilitate medical personnel in the identification and treatment of TB-HIV disease. Methods: This study is a narrative review highlighting the utilization of molecular imaging techniques to capture macrophage dynamics in TB-HIV co-infection. Result and conclusion: Confocal laser scanning microscopy live imaging, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence microscopy, histochemical staining, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and deconvolution microscopy images are among several molecular imaging techniques that can be used to visualize macrophage dynamics in TB-HIV co-infection.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to enhance knowledge and awareness of disaster-related hypertension and its associated health risks, while simultaneously facilitating early detection of elevated blood pressure among survivors residing in Mendala Village Brebes Regency. The activity involved health counseling, health checks, and free medication for 140 survivors. This activity was carried out through three stages: planning, implementation, and evaluation. The results of blood pressure checks were 50 people who experienced hypertension 1, 2 and systolic, with risk factors mostly middle-aged, elderly and old age as much as 75.6%, and 35.2% were active smokers from men. The evaluation showed a high level of participation and enthusiasm in participating in this activity, where survivors received education related to disaster hypertension, screening, health consultation and free medicine.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Tuberculosis infection is a global health problem that occurs in almost every part of the world. HSPs are expressed by MTB when stimulated by stress in response to physiological pressure. We used PubMed, MDPI, and Scopus database to select eligible studied for systematic review published between January 1, 2019 and March 02, 2024. We investigated potential publication bias by examining quality assessment using the SCIRAP tool. From the articles reviewed, it was found that HSPs can play a role in TB infection both as therapeutic agents, biomarkers, and as new diagnostic agents to support the control of TB infection which is still an endemic infection. Types of HSPs that are known to play a role in TB infection are: HSPX, HSP16.3, HSP70, HSP27, and HSPR. This research concluded that HSPs are expressed by MTB under stress, and the expressed HSPs are then used as biomarker for effective diagnostic testing of TB infection, especially latent TB infection, as well as their development as therapeutic agent for making drugs for TB infection.

Abstract

Cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide. WHO estimated 20 million new cancer cases and 9.7 million deaths in 2022. The increasing incidence of cancer encourages development of new therapeutic agents for higher patient survival rate. Plant products are widely studied, one of which is Sacha Inchi (Plukenetia volubilis L.) extract. Sacha Inchi is known to have contents with anticancer potential, but information regarding its effectiveness is still limited. This systematic review aims to provide in-depth review on studies focus on anticancer potential of Sacha Inchi. The searching process was conducted in 4 databases such as National Library of Medicine (MEDLINE-PubMed), Scopus, Springerlink, and Sciencedirect. Keywords used were combination of "sacha inchi”, "plukenetia volubilis”, "anticancer”, "antineoplastic”, "antiproliferative”. Studies selection and data extraction obtained 17 studies provided information on extracts of Sacha Inchi plants and their anticancer-potential contents, both in vitro and in vivo. Polyunsaturated fatty acids and phenolic compounds were the most identified compounds. Other identified substances were tocopherols, peroxides, amino acids, steroids, terpenoids, flavonoids, proteins. Included studies showed antioxidant and anticancer potential of Sacha inchi.

Abstract

Tuberculosis is a chronic infectious disease that is almost universally natural, caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. TB has a strong relationship with vitamins A, C, and E. This is due to the modulating action of these vitamins in the inflammatory process. Data was collected through literature review from electronic databases such as PubMed and SCOPUS. The keywords are "Ascorbic Acid", "Vitamin A", "Vitamin E", "tocopherol", "tocotrienol", and "Tuberculosis". Of the 167 selected articles, 4 were analyzed Intake of foods containing vitamins A, C and E can strengthen the immune system in killing Mycobacterium tuberculosis by modulating the maturation and migration of T cells, inducing hydroxyl radicals due to tuberculosis disease. Intake of foods containing vitamins A, C and E in people with tuberculosis can affect the risk of developing tuberculosis disease and can accelerate healing in people with tuberculosis. Deficiencies in vitamins A, C and E can worsen TB disease and can lead to drug resistance.

Abstract

Background: Psychological well-being (PWB) refers to an individual’s ability to accept oneself, establish positive relationships with others, demonstrate autonomy in decision-making, manage environmental demands, maintain a clear sense of purpose in life, and continuously experience personal growth. In the healthcare context, PWB is essential because it is closely related to the quality of healthcare services and the effectiveness of the educational process among health science students. Differences in professional experience and developmental stages between healthcare professionals and students may lead to variations in their PWB profiles. This study aimed to analyze differences in PWB healthcare professionals and health science students who participated in a PWB training program. Methods: This study employed a quantitative approach using a cross-sectional comparative design. The participants consisted of 194 individuals, including 105 active healthcare professionals and 89 health science students who participated in a PWB training program organized by the Health Division of the Regional Board of the Muhammadiyah Student Association in Central Java. PWB was assessed using a questionnaire adapted from the instrument developed by Kartika (2014) and grounded in Ryff’s PWB model, which encompasses six core dimensions for evaluating PWB among healthcare professionals and health science students. Data were analyzed using the Mann–Whitney U test to examine differences between the two groups. Results: The results showed that most indicators of PWB differed significantly between healthcare professionals and health science students, particularly in the dimensions of self-acceptance, autonomy, and environmental mastery. Conclusion: There are significant differences in PWB profiles between healthcare professionals and health science students. These findings highlight the importance of developing PWB training programs that consider the specific needs and characteristics of each group so that mental health interventions can more effectively support healthcare service quality and educational processes in the health sector.

Abstract

Perilaku hidup bersih dan sehat, pencegahan penyakit menular dan tidak menular serta pengenalan tentang peran penting golongan darah, perlu ditingkatkan khususnya kepada remaja. Materi tersebut merupakan prioritas global yang mendapat perhatian khusus sebagai target dalam Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030. Metode Pelaksanaan pengabdian masyarakat dilakukan menggunakan metode penyuluhan. Adapun tahapan kegiatan ini, yaitu pre test, ceramah, diskusi dan post test. Penyampaian materi secara langsung dalam 1 hari dengan materi kesehatan yang terdiri dari 3 tema. Adapun peserta kegiatan adalah seluruh remaja putri di Panti Asuhan Muhammadiyah Purwokerto. Tujuan memberikan pemahaman terhadap perilaku hidup bersih dan sehat, penyakit menular dan tidak menular, serta pengenalan dan peran penting golongan darah. Hasil pengukuran pre test dan post test menunjukkan  keberhasilan pemahaman peserta terhadap materi yang disampaikan dengan persentase peningkatan hasil test yaitu 36% mendapatkan nilai  ≥70. Kesimpulan Kegiatan penyuluhan pada remaja putri di Panti Asuhan Muhammadiyah Purwokerto terlaksana dengan baik dan memberikan peningkatan pemahaman terkait kesehatan dan golongan darah.
