Machine translation has the potential to make huge contributions to translation industries, but it seems, for now, that machine translation equivalence has led to a crucial point for literary translation by using machine translation because of the problem of the equivalence itself. This paper, therefore, aimed to see the equivalence degree of literary translation resulted by machine translation, i.e., freeware toolkit AntConc 3.5.0 software 2019. The data were collected from English-Indonesian J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix novel by using the software to find the equivalent translation. The collected data were analyzed qualitatively based on the strategy of translation equivalent level proposed by Mona Baker (1992). The analyzed data revealed that the equivalent level of the software mostly occurred in a word level, above word level, and grammatical level. The software was likely difficult to find a textual level and a pragmatic level of translation equivalence because they required a context and still needed human involvement as part of a greater creative project of translation which were not done by the machine translation. After all, Antconc 3.5.0 as Computer Assisted Tool (CAT) brought a huge contribution to translation industry, helped to analyze large corpora particularly to find the degree of translation equivalence in word and above word level.

This article is aimed at finding out the technique of subtitle and dubbing translation in OST Frozen: Let it Go. The article analyzes the lyrics of the song as the corpus. The data are analyzed qualitatively by using the subtitle translation techniques. The data collection is conducted through reading source language and target language, selecting and comparing the translation techniques done by the translator/dubber, marking, classifying and analyzing them based on the theories of translation technique proposed by Molina and Albir. The result shows that subtitle techniques done by the translator consist of eleven techniques. Based on the analysis of translation process translated from the lyrics into the subtitled version, the translator seems to use most of the technique. While the dubber only uses nine techniques in translating the lyrics into the dubbed version. In general, the translator’s technique applied in the subtitled version is mostly literal translation; While the dubbed version’s most common techniques are modulation and reduction.---Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tentang teknik penerjemahan subtitle dan dubbing dalam OST Frozen: Let It Go sebagai korpusnya. Data dianalisis secara kualitatif dengan menggunakan teknik terjemahan subtitle. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui proses membaca bahasa sumber dan bahasa target, memilih dan membandingkan teknik penerjemahan yang dilakukan oleh penerjemah / dubber, menandai, mengklasifikasi dan menganalisisnya berdasarkan teknik penerjemahan yang diajukan oleh Molina dan Albir. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa teknik subtitle yang dilakukan oleh penerjemah terdiri dari sebelas teknik. Berdasarkan analisis proses terjemahan yang diterjemahkan dari lirik ke dalam versi subtitle, penerjemah tampaknya menggunakan sebagian besar teknik. Sedangkan dubber hanya menggunakan sembilan teknik dalam menerjemahkan lirik ke dalam versi yang dijuluki. Secara umum, teknik penerjemah yang diterapkan dalam versi subtitle sebagian besar adalah terjemahan harfiah; Sementara teknik yang paling umum dijuluki versi adalah modulasi dan reduksi.

This paper aims to identify the illocutionary act types which were performed by Thomas Brag from a Canadian digital media which has been growing around on Yes Theory YouTube Channel. The method used in this paper is the descriptive qualitative and using Searle’s speech act theory. The subject of this research was a video that was uploaded by Yes Theory’s channel on YouTube. In analysing the data, the writers have taken most of the interactional conversations of Thomas Brag’s viewers and also his speaking partner making Thomas be able to deliver various information regarding the country that he has travelled to what was seen from the video. The illocutionary acts performed by Thomas Brag were classified and analysed using Searle’s theory. The result indicates that there were five of the illocutionary acts that were being performed by Thomas Brag. These speech acts on the video are giving proper information, being interactive, and positively impacting the change of the world. The interaction between Thomas Brag and his viewers make his Yes Theory YouTube Channel having many viewers in each of his videos. In conclusion, the communications that are built on this YouTube channel are very interesting and joyful keeping the viewers interested.

This research aims to explore the characterization of Sierra as the main female character reflecting body positivity presented in the Sierra Burgess Is a Loser (2018) film directed by Ian Samuels. This research uses the descriptive qualitative method supported by the character and characterization theory by Joseph M. Boggs and Dennis W. Petrie and representation theory by Stuart Hall. This research also uses the concept of body positivity by Tracy and Wood Barcalow to support the analysis. In the Sierra Burgess Is a Loser film, Sierra represents intelligence, independence, and confidence as a teenage girl who reflects body positivity. She struggles to achieve her freedom as a plus body size woman. Becasue of her plus body size, Sierra experiences injustice and bullying as a fat girl in her school. Sierra reflects body positivity as she fights to gain her confidence and face her fear through the struggles of being a fat girl. Moreover, it shows that Sierra Burgess Is a Loser (2018) film tries to support the body positivity movement as the film portrays Sierra as an intelligent woman who breaks the stereotype of unrealistic body image and manages to embrace other women to have a body positivity image.

In academic field, argument is an essential factor of understanding statements. In this regard, the present paper aims to analyse National University Debate Contest (NUDC) 2016 using Toulmin model argumentative structure and its relation with the implied meaning from National University Debate Contest. This paper employs descriptive qualitative analysis to examine the logical pattern of arguments through linguistic expressions that occurred in the debate. The data were taken from NUDC in Mercu Buana University focusing on (part 1) the statement of the government proponent (Bina Nusantara University) and the opposite speaker (Brawijaya University). The data were analysed using the Toulmin model of logical argument. The findings showed that the government opposite speaker very often made the rebuttal claim by showing the weaknesses from the government side; while the government proponent speaker has claimed almost in every pattern of argument proposed by Toulmin model. The paper concludes that both speakers’ patterns of argument have utilized Toulmin model such as claims, data, qualifiers, rebutting conditions, and warrants. Even though there are so many grammatical mistake and unwell-organized structure, but the logical structure can be analysed using Toulmin model.

The paper aims to examine the cast of artificial intelligence (AI) character in solving the problem of love and belonging needs in I am Mother film. Today, the arise of artificial intelligence (AI) has brought controversial debate among society about ethical consideration and psychological problems. One of the concerns is that the integration of AI with character may open up new approaches and innovation toward AI. The data are qualitatively-described focusing on psychological problems of main character using the third level of the hierarchy of human needs of Abraham Harold Maslow. The data are collected from dialogue, visual capture, and cinematography of I am Mother film. The study reveals that AI has a significant influence on the main character's sense of loss of love and belonging. In this film, the main character undergoes loss of love and belonging needs in four forms, family relationships, friendships, romantic relationships, community, and social group. Consequently, the loss of love and belonging has affected the main character’s psychology, feelings of loneliness, isolation, and emotional instability. Fortunately, the main character (Daughter) can overcome her psychological problems, such as creating a close relationship with Mother, improving her self-development, having empathy and caring for their environment, searching for the truth in the outside world, and finding the truth and where she belongs. The study concluded that AI’s emotion still needs to be controlled and trained to make up something, such as how to express emotion and feeling because the AI doesn’t understand the context since they are still need human involvement in its process of development. This study aims at investigating the translation strategies and the equivalence of idiomatic expressions in the "An Abundance of Katherines". The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach. The data source of the study was gathered from the novel "An Abundance of Katherines" and its translation. The data were collected randomly from the source text (ST) and target text (TT). The collected data were analyzed qualitatively based on idiomatic translation strategies, for instance paraphrasing the idiomatic expressions that maintain similar meanings through dissimilar styles or forms as the most frequently strategy employed by the translator. The results of this study indicate that the idiom translation strategy applied by the translator uses the idiom translation strategy with paraphrasing. This seems to be based on the idea that the translator tends to preserve the equivalence in meaning between the source and target languages, for example idioms are translated into non-idioms, idioms with idioms, etc. This research concludes that the translator seems to apply her own strategies by paraphrasing the source text idioms more often into non-idioms in the target text in order to obtain equivalence in meaning and culture. In general, the strategies of translation carried out by the translator can be categorized as acceptance translation and equivalence in terms of meaning and culture. Therefore, this study suggests for translators who wish to translate idioms from English into Indonesian should not be restricted on one theory of translation, but must be more flexible by considering the contextual and cultural factors.

The pervasive meaning and the representative symbol of metaphors have led different views among scholars. Contemporary view has claimed that metaphor is basically symbolic in nature and is pervasive in human language, mind, and culture that goes beyond the scope of a language rather than just as language ornament conceived by the traditional view. The present study is close to the first view that metaphor and symbol in Madurese proverbs are not only matters of language but they mostly take into account with human way of thinking. Moreover, this study also takes a stand that metaphors and symbols can affect social thought and characters. In these regards, constructing the abstract meaning of metaphors - grounded in human mind and culture - has made visible need for this study to use Socio-Cognitive Linguistic approach. It is worth to use such integrated approach to see metaphoric and symbolic meaning about the nature of interpretation reflected in Madurese proverbs to reveal Madurese characters. The study showed that Madurese proverbs have reflected the courageous, religious, humorous, self-reliant, persistent and hard work, direct, and innocent characters of Madurese through their proverbial or metaphorical expressions. The study concluded that metaphors and symbols have played significant roles to reflect social markers due to the symbolic function and abstract meaning of metaphor is bond with human mind, experience, and culture structured through symbolic and metaphoric use.
