Abstract

Juvenile delinquency remains a persistent issue in major cities, including Surabaya. In response, the Surabaya City Government established a grassroots organization, Kader Surabaya Hebat (KSH), to support community-level monitoring and problem-solving at the sub-district level. This study employed a mixed-methods approach involving 50 KSH cadres in Pradah Kalikendal Sub-district. Data collection consisted of three stages: pre-test and post-test questionnaires to assess cadres’ knowledge of juvenile delinquency, and a focus group discussion (FGD) to explore challenges encountered in the field. The findings indicate that KSH cadres possess moderate to high levels of knowledge regarding juvenile delinquency and are generally well-prepared to perform their roles. However, low levels of trust between the community and KSH cadres emerged as a key challenge. As trust is a central component of social capital, its absence hinders effective collaboration and community development. This study recommends strengthening social capital by improving social relations and fostering trust-building strategies to enhance the effectiveness of KSH cadres in addressing juvenile delinquency.

Abstract

Purpose: This study investigates the post-pandemic habits of Indonesian young adults aged 18 to 23 in Indonesia. It uses a cross-sectional design to evaluate their physical activity levels, dietary patterns, and sleep habits. Methods: A mixed-methods, cross-sectional study used an online questionnaire with quantitative and qualitative data from 260 purposively sampled respondents. Quantitative data were collected and analysed using Spearman’s correlation. The quantitative data comprise three assessments: the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), dietary patterns, and sleep routines. Additionally, qualitative data were gathered through one open-ended question to explore perceived changes in lifestyle habits and were analysed using thematic analysis. Results: A sedentary lifestyle markedly affects various aspects of post-pandemic wellbeing among young adults, with three main changes. Firstly, 80.4% reported exercising fewer than 10 times a month or for less than 150 minutes per week. Secondly, 58.1% preferred ultra-processed foods such as boba drinks, coffee, cereals, tteokbokki, and takoyaki, citing current trends and convenience as influences. Thirdly, 65.4% experienced inadequate sleep, averaging 6-7 hours per night, linked to high screen time. Personal challenges and behavioural shifts post-pandemic were also evident in subjective responses during the transition to what has become the normalised modern lifestyle. Conclusion: Inactivity, poor diet, and lack of sleep emphasise the importance of campaigns encouraging healthier lifestyles among young adults. Tackling these interconnected risks requires coordinated efforts from universities, public health authorities, and policymakers to promote active routines, digital balance, and preventative health strategies for youth.

Abstract

Online shopping fraud is one of the most prevalent crimes in Indonesia. This study aims to uncover how someone experiences online shopping fraud using the conceptual framework of desire and the flow of desire by Deleuze and Guattari. Digital ethnography methods were used in this study to collect data through interviews with 42 online shopping fraud victims and participant observation in online shopping fraud victim communities on Facebook and other e-commerce platforms. The results of this study indicate that desires are produced by a desire machine, namely s-commerce, with various values, namely low prices, practicality, branded goods, which are decoded by online shopping fraudsters to trap victims. In addition, desires are channeled through an algorithmic work system that controls shopping behavior and decision-making by victims through the structure of online store’s trust values constructed through the number of followers, attractive displays, number of likes, online store visibility, and the influence of influencers. This study concludes that victims of shopping fraud crimes are brave not because of negligence, but rather the victims have been targeted through the s-commerce infrastructure, namely the algorithms and values that are built to influence the victim’s behavior and decisions.

Abstract

This research explores teachers’ preparedness to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) into education by examining the mediatory role of knowledge, competence, and trust in developing teacher agency. This research was conducted at MAN 2 Ngawi through observation, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and reflective narratives written by 55 participating teachers. The findings show that teachers’ knowledge of AI initially operates at a functional level, primarily associated with efficiency in administrative tasks. However, through training and collaborative reflection, this understanding evolves into a more critical awareness of ethical issues which include bias and inacurracy. Teachers’ competence is shaped by technical skills, adaptability, social interaction as well as contextual conditions. Therefore, competence is seen as both technical and social capital. Meanwhile, trust emerges as the most dynamic and contested dimension. Although some teachers acknowledge the benefits of AI, their trust remains conditional and influenced by their concerns over reliability, ethical implications, and the opacity of AI systems. This research further highlights that the enhancement of teachers’ agency lies in knowledge, competence, and trust that facilitate teachers’ exercise of autonomy and critical development of technology integration in education.
