Abstract

This study examines Covid-19 coverage in two online mass media in Indonesia, okezone.com and cnnindonesia.com 11-13 and 20 April 2022 editions. In this research, researchers used Zhongdang Pan and Gerald Kosicki's framing analysis by applying descriptive qualitative research methods in the form of news text from the two online mass media. From the results of this study, researchers found that Okezone.com media news framing refers more to negative news angles where they inform about the facts and dangers of Covid-19 without warning or anything like that. Meanwhile, CNNIndonesia.com's news framing is more positive and contains an appeal. Media CNNIndonesia.com is also more inclined towards the government but still trying to be objective. The information that this media presents seems to urge the public to remain calm, even though there are still positive cases every day. In conclusion, the two online media Okezone.com and CNNIndonesia.com are able to report about Covid-19 in a frame that educates the public regarding what is currently happening objectively. Abstract

Christian Grey and Anastasia Steel are the main character in trilogy of Fifty Shade by E.L James. This novel is one of the best popular literatures in 21st century. This study focuses on analyzing both main characters by using ideal romance by Janice roadway which is portrayed in first trilogy of Fifty Shades. There are some terms in ideal romance; two of them are the ideal of hero and the ideal of heroin. This study focuses to look deeper into character of Christian grey as the hero and Anastasia steel as the heroin.  This study also discusses about their sexual behavior and relation as part of romance popular literature today. This study is using textual analysis approach and genre analysis theory to analyze the problem. Whether Christian Grey and Anastasia Steel has all the ideal categories of hero and heroine which is based on Roadway’s ideal romance. However, there are some pro and cons in the result of discussing about the main characters depicted in Fifty Shades of Grey.

Abstract

Many scholars have conducted studies on the accuracy of the news media, such as newspaper, television, and magazine, but not online media. In fact, online media is a significant news media in the moment, especially in Indonesia. Online press companies are even the largest press companies in Indonesia compared to newspapers, radio, and television. Therefore, this study is conducted to measure the inaccuracies that occur in news in online news media. Researchers examined 63 online journalistic media that have been administratively and factually verified by the Dewan Pers (Press Council). It uses a content analysis method by coding the headlines in Indonesian online journalistic media. This study finds online mass media categories based on the theme segmentation, namely: 1) general, 2) economics, technology, and business, 3) sports, 4) politics, law, and crime, 5) lifestyle and entertainment, and 6) regional. The results of this study indicate that the inaccuracy of news in Indonesian online media is high. Media with economics, technology, and business most often make grammatical errors. This study also finds that speed does not only has an impact on grammatical inaccuracies, but also on unbalanced news reporting, where the imbalance in Indonesian online media news itself is very high.

Abstract

Preventing the spread of religious radicalism has remained popular issue in Indonesian nowadays. This is because Indonesia has long been vulnerable to Islamic radicalism ideologies. Many studies have revealed that young people have become the main target of the spread of Islamic extremist movement. This paper offers a textual analysis of ‘TikTok da’wah’ utilised by Muslim preachers to convey religious moderation teachings for young generation. In other words, it examines the use of Tiktok social media as a forum for mediating da'wah messages regarding religious moderation. The study results indicate that TikTok is an essential communication media for mubaligh to carry out da'wah for the millennial generation. In the hands of Islamic preachers, TikTok is likely to become a medium to build religious moderation insights amongs Indonesian youth.

Abstract

This research aims to increase public awareness regarding the importance of protecting children and women. Apart from that, to convey information and encourage active participation from the people of RW 06 Perak Barat. This activity was carried out because the security conditions in RW 06 Perak Barat were quite vulnerable. This is due to the location of the RW 06 6 Perak Barat area in the Krembangan sub-district, Surabaya, which is often an alternative route so maximum security is quite difficult to achieve. Educational activities regarding the protection of children and women are carried out through the use of posters. The results of this research are poster media that can encourage active participation in RW 06 Perak Barat related to the urgency of protecting children and women.

Abstract

This research studies the dynamics of digital interaction within the Genshin Impact fan community on the subreddit r/furinamains. As part of the broader Genshin Impact fandom, this group utilizes the online platform as an open and collaborative space for social engagement. Use netnographic methods, we analyze how members construct shared identities, foster solidarity, and engage in symbolic self-expression through everyday interactions. Data were collected over a three-month period (January–March 2024) through passive observation and documentation of approximately 150 posts and comment threads within the subreddit. Thematic analysis was employed to identify communication patterns, symbolic forms, and participation dynamics among members. Findings reveal that communication occurs across multiple languages and is shaped by Reddit features such as tagging, upvoting, and moderation. Dominant discursive forms include setting discussions, speculative theories, inside jokes, and sarcastic comments, all contributing to social cohesion and collective identity formation. Symbolic practices were particularly evident in the use of memes, character nicknames, fan art, and specially created visual content, functioning as tools for symbolic interaction. These practices were reinforced both by the platform's mechanisms and by moderators' efforts to maintain norms and regulate conversation. This study demonstrates that communities like r/furinamains are not merely casual gathering places, but spaces where symbolic products are created, digital identities are formed, and participation in everyday life within the social media era occurs. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of how digital communications support vibrant virtual communities rooted in shared fandom and interests.  Penelitian ini mengkaji dinamika komunikasi digital dalam komunitas penggemar karakter Furina di subreddit r/furinamains. Sebagai bagian dari ekosistem fandom global Genshin Impact, komunitas ini memanfaatkan platform digital sebagai ruang interaksi sosial yang inklusif dan kolaboratif. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan netnografi, penelitian ini menelusuri bagaimana anggota komunitas membangun identitas kolektif, solidaritas, serta ekspresi simbolik melalui interaksi daring. Data penelitian dikumpulkan selama tiga bulan, dari Januari hingga Maret 2024, melalui observasi pasif dan dokumentasi sekitar 150 unggahan serta rangkaian komentar di subreddit tersebut. Analisis dilakukan dengan pendekatan tematik untuk mengidentifikasi pola komunikasi, bentuk simbolik, serta dinamika partisipasi anggota komunitas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pola komunikasi berlangsung secara satu arah, dua arah, maupun multi-arah, yang dimediasi oleh fitur Reddit seperti komentar bertingkat, sistem voting, dan moderasi komunitas. Tema dominan dalam diskusi meliputi lore, teori spekulatif, humor internal, dan sarkasme, yang secara bersama-sama membentuk kohesi sosial dan menciptakan makna kolektif. Simbol-simbol digital seperti meme, fanart, julukan karakter, dan istilah khusus menjadi elemen kunci dalam proses interaksi simbolik. Selain itu, peran platform dan moderator juga terbukti penting dalam menjaga norma komunitas serta mengarahkan diskusi. Hasil penelitian menegaskan bahwa komunitas daring seperti r/furinamains bukan sekadar ruang hiburan, tetapi merupakan arena produksi simbolik, pembentukan identitas digital, dan partisipasi budaya di era media sosial. Studi ini berkontribusi pada pemahaman mengenai peran komunikasi digital dalam membentuk komunitas virtual berbasis minat dan fandom yang berkembang secara dinamis.

Abstract

This study aims to explore in depth the communication patterns practiced by Village Children’s Forums (Forum Anak Desa) in supporting the Indonesian government’s policy on Child- and Women-Friendly Villages (Desa Ramah Perempuan dan Peduli Anak / DRPPA). Employing a qualitative case study approach, this research combines in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis in several villages actively implementing DRPPA programs. The findings reveal that the forums apply both consensual and pluralistic communication patterns that encourage active participation, open dialogue, and decision-making based on deliberation and equality among members. Through these approaches, the forums successfully cultivate a sense of togetherness and social responsibility among village children. Nevertheless, the participatory communication process still faces several challenges, such as age limitations, lack of legitimacy among adult community members, and limited institutional support. Despite these obstacles, the Village Children’s Forums play a crucial role in strengthening DRPPA implementation through advocacy, peer education, child rights campaigns, and providing policy input to village governments. Their communication practices align with participatory communication principles and the Communication for Development (C4D) framework, emphasizing empowerment, inclusivity, and the active involvement of children as agents of change. This study highlights the importance of enhancing children’s communication capacity and institutional support to achieve more inclusive, gender-responsive, and sustainable village development.

Abstract

Media sosial, khususnya Instagram, telah menjadi ruang bagi publik figur untuk membangun citra dan menyampaikan berbagai isu sosial, termasuk kritik politik. Penelitian ini menganalisis representasi ironi terhadap stabilitas kekuasaan politik dalam unggahan kolaborasi @comikamedia dan @pandji.pragiwaksono pada 25 Oktober 2024 menggunakan metode semiotika Roland Barthes. Analisis dilakukan dengan mengidentifikasi makna denotatif, konotatif, dan mitos dalam elemen visual dan teks unggahan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa gestur tubuh, ekspresi wajah, dan teks dalam unggahan menciptakan ironi terhadap keberlanjutan figur politik tertentu dalam pemerintahan, meskipun terjadi pergantian presiden. Dengan memanfaatkan humor dan ironi, unggahan ini merepresentasikan skeptisisme terhadap perubahan politik dan memperlihatkan bagaimana komunikasi visual dapat menjadi alat kritik yang efektif dalam wacana publik. Abstract

This study looks to understand the meaning making process and identity formation among UINSA (Sunan Ampel Islamic State University) students surrounding the phenomenon of reels on Instagram along the visual consumerism continuum. The work focuses on the phenomenological qualitative method used in the interviews and stimulated recall. The results reveal the following. For the most part, short Islamic videos and the viewers’ emotional and cognitive shifts suggest varying degrees of motivational and spiritual awareness and reflection. Secondly, the platform has become an identity construction site where students have become netizens, and, in Islamic education, they intermingle education, personality, and algorithms into varying, at times, unique frameworks. Third, the platform influences behavioral tendencies, from subtle shifts in daily religious habits to increased trust in digital preachers, while also reinforcing the need for critical filtering to avoid superficiality and misinformation. The study concludes that Instagram reels are beyond serving as entertainment oriented content, playing a significant role in shaping emotional engagement, spiritual resonance, and being the dynamic formation of contemporary muslim youth identity.
