Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of the implementation of the Child Protection Law on the practice of giving punishment at Sint Carolus Catholic High School, Kupang. This study uses a quantitative method with a descriptive correlational approach. The results of data analysis using descriptive techniques indicate that the implementation of the Child Protection Law at Sint Carolus Catholic High School, Kupang is very good (93.13%) and the giving of punishment is very good (90.21%). In addition, the results of a simple linear regression analysis show a significant positive effect between the implementation of the Child Protection Law and the giving of punishment (regression coefficient = 0.922, p < 0.05). Even though there is an effect between these two variables, the most important thing to note is that the use of punishment in education must be educational and not exceed the limits regulated by the Child Protection Law. This finding illustrates that although punishment at Sint Carolus Catholic High School, Kupang is implemented well, it is necessary to continue to monitor it so as not to violate children's rights. The implications of this study suggest the need for a more careful approach in giving punishment in order to be in accordance with the objectives of educating and protecting children.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the motivation for boarding life and its impact on character formation of boarding children at STIPAS Kupang Archdiocese. This research uses qualitative methods with an empirical-rational approach, prioritizing content analysis of data from observations and interviews. The results show that dormitory life provides easier access to campus, opportunities for independent study, involvement in extracurricular activities, and supportive academic facilities. Despite the presence of inhibiting factors such as conflict between residents, academic stress, and lack of staff support, concrete steps have been identified to address these challenges, including education, mediation mechanisms, and increased staff support. Thus, the life of female students in the St. Theresia Avila STIPAS Kupang Archdiocese can be an important contributor in forming the character of female students as prospective catechists, by providing opportunities for the development of skills and values that are important in pastoral ministry.

Abstract

This research uses quantitative methods with a rational-empirical approach, starting with identifying problems which are then studied theoretically before being analyzed empirically. Data collection was carried out through questionnaires and document studies, while data analysis used descriptive and inferential statistical techniques. The results of descriptive statistical analysis show that the achievement of the teacher performance variable indicator is 54.22% and the principal leadership variable is 56.51%, these two variables are categorized as quite good. Inferential analysis shows the significance of the principal leadership variable on teacher performance, with a significant beta value. The coefficient of determination confirms the contribution of the principal leadership variable of 43.8% to teacher performance, while the remainder is influenced by other factors. These findings indicate the leadership role of the principal in improving teacher performance at Inpres Sein Arak Elementary School, but also indicate the existence of other factors that also influence teacher performance.

Abstract

Penguasaan bahasa Inggris merupakan kompetensi penting dalam menghadapi tantangan global. Namun, kemampuan tersebut masih menjadi persoalan serius di sekolah-sekolah wilayah 3T (tertinggal, terluar, dan termiskin), termasuk di SMA St. Paulus Weliman, Kabupaten Malaka. Keterbatasan penggunaan metode pembelajaran yang inovatif berdampak pada rendahnya kompetensi dan motivasi siswa dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini bertujuan meningkatkan kompetensi bahasa Inggris siswa melalui implementasi metode Project-Based Learning (PjBL) yang bersifat kontekstual dan partisipatif. Mitra kegiatan adalah SMA St. Paulus Weliman dengan sasaran 31 siswa kelas XI. Metode yang digunakan meliputi pembelajaran berbasis proyek, pendampingan intensif, serta evaluasi menggunakan desain one-group pretest–posttest. Proyek pembelajaran mencakup pembuatan video perkenalan diri, mini vlog tentang potensi wisata lokal, dan majalah dinding berbahasa Inggris. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan pada kompetensi bahasa Inggris siswa. Nilai rata-rata siswa meningkat dari 64,40 pada pretest menjadi 83,23 pada posttest atau mengalami peningkatan sebesar 29,25%. Selain peningkatan hasil belajar, siswa juga menunjukkan peningkatan kepercayaan diri, partisipasi aktif, serta kemampuan komunikasi lisan. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa Project-Based Learning efektif sebagai strategi pembelajaran bahasa Inggris pada konteks sekolah wilayah 3T. Hasil kegiatan ini dapat menjadi model pembelajaran inovatif yang berpotensi direplikasi untuk meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran bahasa Inggris secara berkelanjutan.

Abstract

English speaking anxiety is a significant psychological barrier experienced by low-achieving students, impacting low active participation and academic achievement. Based on initial observations at SMPN Weliman, it was found that 78% of students with scores below the Minimum Completeness Criteria experienced symptoms of high anxiety such as nervousness, fear of making mistakes, trembling voices, and avoiding eye contact when asked to speak English. This condition is exacerbated by the unavailability of teaching materials or special intervention programs from the school to address speaking anxiety in this student group, causing the problem to persist without systematic handling. This research, conducted in the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year, aims to develop the "Speak with Confidence" module as an intervention based on the identification results of English speaking anxiety factors in low-achieving students at SMPN Weliman. The research method used Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The research subjects were 32 eighth-grade students who had low English achievement and high anxiety levels based on initial screening using the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS). Data collection instruments included an adapted FLCAS questionnaire, semi-structured interviews, participatory observation, and speaking performance tests. SMPN Weliman played an active role as a research partner, contributing to the initial identification of low-achieving and high-anxiety students, providing facilities, space, and time for intervention implementation, involving English teachers in practical validation of the module, and providing assistance during the program implementation process. The identification results showed three main anxiety factors: fear of making mistakes (78%), lack of confidence (72%), and limited vocabulary (68%). The "Speak with Confidence" module was developed using a scaffolding approach and integration of relaxation techniques, consisting of six progressive learning units covering self-introduction, vocabulary enrichment, constructing simple sentences, expressing ideas, dialogue practice, and mini-presentations. Expert validation results showed the module was highly feasible to use with an average score of 84.8% (very feasible category). Effectiveness test results showed a significant decrease in anxiety levels from an average of 82.3 (high category) to 45.6 (low category) and an increase in speaking performance scores from an average of 54.2 to 78.6. The paired sample t-test showed a significance of 0.000 (<0.05), proving the module's effectiveness statistically. This research concludes that the "Speak with Confidence" module is effective in reducing anxiety and improving English speaking skills of low-achieving students at SMPN Weliman. This module is recommended to be integrated into regular English learning and remedial programs as a needs-based intervention that can be applied sustainably.

Abstract

The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has brought significant changes in the learning, communication, and identity-building patterns of Generation Z. On the one hand, AI provides easy access to information and digital creativity; on the other hand, unsupervised use has the potential to create a value crisis, such as low moral responsibility, misuse of technology, and degradation of digital ethics. This situation is also felt by young people in the St. Antonius Padua Station environment who live in the flow of massive digitalization. This Community Service Program aims to strengthen the moral values of Generation Z in the implementation of AI through a structured and contextual faith mentoring model. The methods used include AI literacy socialization, mentoring based on faith reflection, digital ethics case discussions, and participatory evaluation. This approach integrates Christian moral teachings with the principles of responsibility, wisdom, and honesty in the use of technology. The results show a significant improvement in the participants' ethical understanding and moral awareness. Quantitatively, the average moral value score increased from 31.75 before the intervention to 79.00 after the intervention (a 47.25-point increase). This achievement exceeded the predetermined success indicators, with ≥75% of participants experiencing a minimum 20% increase in AI literacy scores, and ≥70% of participants correctly identifying forms of AI misuse in case studies. The program also successfully established a digital faith mentoring group with more than 10 members as a form of sustainability. This program emphasizes that faith mentoring is a relevant pastoral strategy in shaping digital character that is rooted in Evangelical values and responsive to the challenges of the times.

Abstract

The understanding of the Catholic faithful regarding the theological meaning of the Eucharist and the function of liturgical instruments is often still superficial. This condition not only diminishes reverence but also hinders active participation in worship, even though a correct understanding is the main foundation of ecclesial life. Stemming from this problem, this community service activity aims to enhance the faithful's appreciation through comprehensive assistance at St. Francis BTN Church. The implementation method used a participatory approach through three stages: interactive lectures, demonstrations of liturgical instruments, and discussions with Q&A sessions. The target audience was 35 faithful from various categorical groups. The results showed a significant increase in the participants' understanding, measured through pre-tests and post-tests. The average comprehension score of the participants increased from 62% in the pre-test to 88% in the post-test, with the highest increase in the indicator of the theological meaning of the paten and corporal. Furthermore, high enthusiasm was observed during the demonstration sessions. The faithful not only understood the names and functions of the instruments but also the theological meaning behind each liturgical symbol. This assistance proved effective in building a new awareness that the liturgy is not merely a routine, but a personal encounter with Christ. It is recommended that similar activities be carried out periodically with more in-depth material, such as the meaning of liturgical vestments and gestures.

Abstract

Background: Pembinaan kader muda Katolik merupakan kebutuhan mendesak dalam mendukung keberlanjutan pelayanan iman di komunitas umat basis, khususnya di Paroki St. Matias Rasul Tofa Keuskupan Agung Kupang. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk membekali orang muda agar mampu bertransformasi dari peserta doa menjadi fasilitator doa dan pendamping katekese. Metode: Pembinaan kader muda Katolik merupakan kebutuhan mendesak dalam mendukung keberlanjutan pelayanan iman di komunitas umat basis, khususnya di Paroki St. Matias Rasul Tofa Keuskupan Agung Kupang. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk membekali orang muda agar mampu bertransformasi dari peserta doa menjadi fasilitator doa dan pendamping katekese. Hasil: Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa model pembinaan partisipatif ini efektif meningkatkan ketrampilan komunikasi pastoral, kemampuan memimpin doa bersama, serta keberanian dalam mendampingi katekese. Peningkatan tersebut ditunjukkan oleh skor pemahaman, ketrampilan memimpin doa dan kesiapan pendampingan katekese peserta yang meningkat dari 40% pada Pre-Test menjadi 78% pada Post-Test. Keunggulan kegiatan terletak pada kesesuaiannya dengan kebutuhan umat basis, meskipun kelemahannya adalah durasi waktu yang singkat sehingga materi belum sepenuhnya mendalam. Kesimpulan: Secara keseluruhan, kegiatan ini memberikan dampak positif berupa meningkatnya kapasitas kader muda serta peluang terbentuknya jejaring pendamping pastoral muda di tingkat paroki. Disarankan agar program ini dilaksanakan secara berkesinambungan dengan pendampingan rutin, sehingga kualitas kader semakin mendalam dan selaras dengan dinamika iman umat.
