Abstract

Young Catholics (OMK) are the next generation of sources of the Catholic faith. One of them is the holy book. In the Naibonat quasi-parish, OMK is very active in church activities. However, in reality, there are still many OMK who do not have adequate knowledge and understanding of the holy books, both deuteurocanonical. So, when a new translation of the deuteurocanonical holy book was published, OMK became confused about which holy book to have. This research aims to determine the extent of understanding of OMK in Naibonat regarding the deuterocanonical holy book, efforts that need to be made to increase OMK's understanding so that harmony is maintained through the teachings of the deuterurocanonical holy book. The method used is a descriptive qualitative method. Data collection techniques are interviews, observation and documentation combined with literary studies. The data obtained was reduced and analyzed so that it answered the research objectives. As a result, OMK in Naibonat do not understand the differences between Catholic and Protestant holy books. However, OMK knows that the contents of the holy book teach about helping each other and loving each other. This is also what is taught in deuteurocanonical books, such as in the book of Tobit which contains life advice for his son Tobiah to continue doing good, abstain from sin, and continue to help others by giving alms. Advice for OMKs like this is what encourages the creation of a harmonious life where by helping and loving each other, differences and diversity will not become obstacles but become tools that maintain harmony in life for the common good. The results of this research will be a starting point for community service activities in the form of socializing the deuteurocanonical holy book for OMK in Naibonat in particular and in the Archdiocese of Kupang in general.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the extent to which the creativity of SEKAMI coaches affects children's interest in attending SEKAMI coaching at Maria Bunda Selalu Menolong Kambajawa Parish. The research method used is quantitative research with a descriptive correlational approach. Data collection techniques used questionnaires and documentation studies. The questionnaire was addressed to 214 SEKAMI coaches and children, to find data on the level of creativity of SEKAMI coaches and the level of children's interest in joining SEKAMI coaching. The data analysis technique used was descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. As a result of the research, the average of each indicator of the SEKAMI coach's creativity variable (X) was 80.98% and the average achievement of each indicator of the child interest variable was 71.13% and the child's interest in participating in SEKAMI coaching was in the good category. In addition, in the calculation of the coefficient of determination (R2), SEKAMI coach creativity (X) has a contribution of 81.7% to children's interest (Y) (0.817 x 100 = 81.7%). Based on the t-test, 6.678 is greater than the t table value of 1.971. Therefore, the hypothesis in this study is accepted and there is a positive and significant influence of SEKAMI coaches' creativity on children's interest in joining SEKAMI coaching at Maria Bunda Selalu Menolong Kambajawa Parish.

Abstract

This research was conducted with the aim of knowing the impact of implementing online learning on the cognitive abilities of students in class XI SMAK St. Francis of Assisi Larantuka. This study uses a qualitative method. The informants in this study consisted of students, homeroom teachers, subject teachers, and parents. Data collection techniques used interviews and documentation studies, while data analysis techniques consisted of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and data verification. The results of the study showed that the cognitive development of students in class XI SMAK St. Francis of Assisi Larantuka while participating in online learning was very low. The influencing factors are the learning methods applied by the teacher, infrastructures such as gadgets, data pulses, networks, parental support, and attention and awareness of the students themselves being less than optimal. The efforts made are that teachers need to prepare creative and innovative learning using relevant methods in accordance with science and technology developments, provision and assistance of learning facilities for students, and regular evaluation of the entire learning process that has been implemented.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the relationship between social media and mental health of students in two pastoral colleges in Timor Region. The results of descriptive analysis showed that the majority of students (69.81%) actively use social media, while most of them (69.88%) have a good level of mental health. Inferential analysis showed a t-value of 3.307 with a significance level of 0.001, which is significantly lower than the general threshold of 0.05. This indicates that there is strong evidence that social media use has a positive and significant effect on the mental health of students in both pastoral colleges. Recommendations from this study include efforts to improve understanding of the risks and benefits of social media use through targeted education. In addition, it is recommended to develop a policy on responsible social media use in the academic environment. Counseling support and resources related to mental health also need to be improved to provide more effective assistance to students in managing their mental health. This study makes an important contribution to expanding the understanding of the impact of social media on mental health in the context of pastoral higher education. The practical implications of these findings are expected to assist educational institutions in developing more holistic strategies to support overall student well-being.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of the implementation of the Child Protection Law on the practice of giving punishment at Sint Carolus Catholic High School, Kupang. This study uses a quantitative method with a descriptive correlational approach. The results of data analysis using descriptive techniques indicate that the implementation of the Child Protection Law at Sint Carolus Catholic High School, Kupang is very good (93.13%) and the giving of punishment is very good (90.21%). In addition, the results of a simple linear regression analysis show a significant positive effect between the implementation of the Child Protection Law and the giving of punishment (regression coefficient = 0.922, p < 0.05). Even though there is an effect between these two variables, the most important thing to note is that the use of punishment in education must be educational and not exceed the limits regulated by the Child Protection Law. This finding illustrates that although punishment at Sint Carolus Catholic High School, Kupang is implemented well, it is necessary to continue to monitor it so as not to violate children's rights. The implications of this study suggest the need for a more careful approach in giving punishment in order to be in accordance with the objectives of educating and protecting children.

Abstract

The Indonesian state hopes that every religious follower will have an attitude of tolerance in social life. This tolerance is alsoexpected to be realized in the campus environment for students. The focus of this research is to study the attitude of tolerance between religious communities in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church in the Second Vatican Council document "Nostra Aetate" which explains that the Catholic Church does not reject anything from other religions that is considered true. The method used in this research is descriptive naturalistic. The results of this research show that religious tolerance is allowing and not interrupting other people's religious activities in social interactions or in establishing social relationships. Religious tolerance also means not picking and choosing, not having negative or negative prejudices against other religions, religious fanaticism, considering other religions as infidels, insulting other religious symbols. Kupang city university students have implemented an attitude of tolerance in social interactions. They respect and respect each other's religion and beliefs

Abstract

Each tribe has its own perspective on divinity or the supreme being. Therefore, the procedures for establishing a relationship with the supreme being also differ. Long before Catholicism was introduced by missionaries to the archipelago, traditional communities had unique procedures for establishing a relationship with the supreme being. The method used in this study is the literature method. The author studied library literature and linked it to the traditional practices of the Oenames tribe. The purpose of this study was to examine in greater depth the Oenames tribe's understanding of hau monef as a symbol of patriarchal religiosity. The results of the study show that members of the Oenames tribe believe that hau monef is a symbol of the presence of the Supreme Being through their ancestors. Therefore, whenever tribe members ask for blessings or permission from their ancestors, a ritual is always performed on hau monef. This shows that there is an unbroken relationship between the ancestors and the living members of the tribe.  In conclusion, the Oenames tribe has a strong vertical paradigm of the supreme being, which is represented by the symbol of hau monef. Hau monef is a place for prayers and for giving thanks for all the blessings received by tribe members. Hau monef is not just a ritual artefact but a symbol of the presence of the Supreme Being, which Oenames tribe members believe has an impact on their safety and livelihood.

Abstract

The family is not only seen as the smallest unit of society, but also as the domestic Church (ecclesia domestica), where faith is instilled, lived, and passed on. In light of Catholic Church teachings, the family is the primary basis of Catholic Religious Education, shaping the character and spirituality of the congregation from an early age. However, amidst social dynamics and the rapid development of digital technology, the congregation's awareness of the family's identity as a domestic Church is weakening. This study aims to analyze the dynamics of congregational formation and pastoral practices in realizing the Church as a domestic family and their relevance to Catholic Religious Education in Aimutin Parish, Dili. The study used a qualitative-descriptive method with data collection techniques through interviews, observation, and documentation. The focus of the study includes identifying pastoral challenges, development strategies, implementation of family programs, and the roles of families and pastors in church life. The results show that ethnic diversity, low congregational participation, minimal systematic faith formation, socio-economic challenges, and the influence of digital culture are the main obstacles to strengthening the family as a domestic Church. This situation has a direct impact on the effectiveness of Catholic Religious Education in the family environment. Therefore, this study emphasizes the importance of ongoing faith formation, the development of a digital-based pastoral approach, and the empowerment of families as the primary subjects of faith education and implementers of the Church's mission in daily life.
