Abstract

Purpose: This study was to determine the description of urinary tract infection patients in the inpatient ward of a private hospital in Banyumas. Methodology: This study used an analytic observation method with a cross-sectional approach, to see the description of patients with urinary tract infections. Results: Of the 40 samples studied for 3 months, the sample characteristics were based on gender, the highest number of urinary tract infection sufferers was female with a total of 22 people (55%) and the lowest was in males (45%). Based on sample characteristics according to age, the highest number of UTI sufferers occurred at the age of more than 60 years (50%) and the lowest was at the age of 30 to 40 years (17.5%). Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is that urinary tract infections have a risk along with increasing age and female sex.

Abstract

Backgorund The osteomeatal complex (OMC) is the main drainage pathway of the paranasal sinuses, and anatomical variations, such as nasal septal deviation, may disrupt airflow and increase the risk of sinusitis; therefore, a CT Scan is the preferred modality for its evaluation. Objective: To determine the association between OMC anatomical variations and maxillary sinusitis based on head CT Scan results at Ajibarang Regional Hospital in 2024. Methodology: This analytic, observational, cross-sectional study used head CT Scan data, with OMC anatomical variations as independent variables and maxillary sinusitis as the dependent variable. Interobserver agreement was assessed using Fleiss’ Kappa, followed by univariate analysis to determine frequency distribution, and bivariate analysis using the Chi-square (χ²) test with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: Interobserver agreement was substantial to perfect (κ = 0.76–1.00). Most patients presented with maxillary sinusitis (69.44%), and the most common anatomical variation was nasal septal deviation (52.78%), which was the only anatomical variation to show a significant association with maxillary sinusitis (p = 0.001). Conclusion: Nasal septal deviation is the only OMC anatomical variation significantly associated with maxillary sinusitis, while other variations showed no meaningful association.

Abstract

Acute respiratory infections (ARIs) is an acute infection that attacks the nose, paranasal sinuses, pharynx, trachea, bronchi, lungs and epiglottis. Bacteria, viruses, and microbes are the causes of ARIs. ARIs patients have symptoms such as coughing, shortness of breath, dry throat, and nasal congestion. ARIs is a serious health problem in Indonesia. According to Riskesdas statistics for 2018, the prevalence of ARIs in children in Central Java was 12.9% based on a diagnosis made by medical personnel (doctors, nurses or midwives), while based on the diagnosis or symptoms reported by respondents it was 24.3%. out of a weighted total of 255,526. The use of antibiotics is necessary because of the high prevalence of ARIs in children. Doctors prescribe antibiotics as a treatment for bacterial diseases, including ARIs. Misuse of antibiotics can lead to the survival of resistant microorganisms. The purpose of this study was to identify the rationality of antibiotic use in pediatric ARIs patients at the X hospital. This research is a descriptive observational study using the rationality analysis of the Gyssens method, and collecting data retrospectively on the medical records of pediatric patients infected with ARIs. The results of the study showed that most of the ARIs patients were boys (67.6%). The most widely used antibiotic was Ceftriaxone with 35.1%, while the least antibiotic was Amoxicillin with 2.7%. Based on the Gyssens method, there were 37 data, 23 data (62.2%) used appropriate/rational antibiotics (category 0), 11 (category IIA) used inappropriate antibiotics (category IIA) 11 (29.7%), and 3 (8.1%) patient data used antibiotics too briefly (category IIIB). So it was concluded that in this study there were still inaccuracies in the dosage and administration of antibiotics that were too short.

Abstract

Problem: UTI (urinary tract infection) is an infection caused by bacterial invasion of the urinary tract. Escherichia coli bacteria is a strain that often causes UTIs (urinary tract infections). This bacterium has the ability to attach or attach to the host epithelium as a condition for disease formation, one of these factors is due to the expression of fimbriae. Purpose: the aim of this study was to identify the PapC and fim A genes in esble-producing e.coli bacteria as adhesion factors in urinary tract infections. Methods: This study was included in a cross-sectional study conducted for 3 months. E. coli isolates were obtained from urine samples of UTI patients who were hospitalized. To detect ESBL-producing E.coli strains, HiCromeTM ESBL Agar Base (Himedia) was used and PCR was used to detect PapC and FimA genes. Results: From 40 samples obtained for 3 months, 10 isolates of ESBl-producing E. coli were obtained and the PapC and FimA genes identified from the PapC and FimA genes were identified. showed that 8 samples were positive for Pap C (80%) (figure 2) and Fim A gene 10 (100%).
