Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected the economy from both the supply and demand sides. Policies are designed coherently and quickly, especially monetary and fiscal stimulus. However, the network effect of Covid-19 and global uncertainty can be a challenge in implementing a policy. The motivation behind this study is to determine the response of fiscal and monetary policies to income inequality in Indonesia pra-pandemic and during the period of Covid-19 pandemic. The dataset used in this study is panel data which consists of 25 provinces in Indonesia and period from 2017 – 2021. The estimation method used to identify the response of monetary and fiscal policy to income inequality in Indonesia is Dynamic GMM. This study found that only fiscal policies were effective in reducing inequality in Indonesia before the Covid-19 pandemic. Then during the Covid-19 pandemic period, this study found that monetary and fiscal policies were effective in reducing inequality in Indonesia. This condition shows that the stimulus issued by the government is effective in the sense that it can be a cushion to prevent widening inequality during the Covid-19 period. Overall, this study implies that policy synchronization between fiscal and monetary is needed to minimize the economic impact during the Covid-19 pandemic

Abstract

Abstract

Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are among the key business sectors that play an important role in the Indonesian economy by meeting daily needs and contributing to overall welfare. MSMEs demonstrated strong resilience during the 1998 monetary crisis, surviving when many larger businesses collapsed, even continuing to grow by absorbing between 85 and 107 million workers by 2012. However, despite this positive performance, MSMEs still encounter varios structural challenges. One of the most significant challenges has been the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has forced MSMEs to adapt new strategies to survive and sustain their development. The purpose of this study is to eximine how MSMEs adaptation strategies contributes to sustaining and stabilizing the economy during the COVID-19 period by analyzing the key inhibiting factors namely human resource limitations, capital constraints, technological challenges, and regulatory barriers that affect their performance. This research employs a literature review (library research) method with a descriptive analytical approach, focusing on MSMEs dynamics during the pandemic, the obstacles they encounter, and the adaptive measures implemented to maintain business continuity and economic resilience

Abstract

Indonesia faces a few structural challenges that fundamentally impact the sustainability of economic growth, as evidenced by its fluctuating growth patterns. This study aims to examine the extent to which government expenditure, inflation, trade, and the budget deficit contribute to growth or act as a hindrance. The data used is an annual time series over the observation period of 1988 - 2024. This study uses the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) analysis method to identify the long-term and short-term relationships between variables. The research results show increase in Government Expenditure directly boosting aggregate demand, although the impact is temporary. Inflation tends to depress economic growth due to weakened purchasing power and economic uncertainty. Trade contributes little to growth due to fluctuations in global commodity prices. Budget deficits can boost growth through fiscal stimulus, so that it can stimulate economic activity and increase domestic output. In the long term, government expenditure resulting in a greater increase in growth than other factors. Research findings indicate that controlling inflation and improving the quality of government spending play a crucial role in maintaining stable economic growth. Key factors in promoting sustainable growth are maintaining consistent fiscal policy, prudent budget deficit management, and strengthening trade.
