Abstract

Abstract

The phenomenon of education graduates who are reluctant to enter the teaching profession has become an increasingly alarming issue amid the regeneration crisis of educators in Indonesia. This study aims to explore the factors causing the low interest of education students in becoming teachers and to critically analyze whether this phenomenon constitutes evidence of educational system failure or a reflection of individual hypocrisy. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method through a systematic literature review of 25 journal articles published between 2020 and 2026, thematically analyzed using Braun and Clarke’s framework. The findings revealed two opposing narratives: the “system failure” narrative, highlighting structural factors such as low teacher welfare, complex administrative burdens, limited career paths, and the mismatch between educational curricula and workplace demands; and the “individual hypocrisy” narrative, emphasizing shifts in students’ professional identity during their studies, the gap between idealistic expectations and reality, and pragmatic career choices. The synthesis indicates that the phenomenon is not binary but represents a complex interaction between systemic and individual factors. The implications of this research suggest the need for a transformative approach in teacher recruitment systems, structural welfare improvements, and strengthening professional identity formation during pre-service education.

Abstract

Mathematics learning in elementary schools often faces challenges related to low conceptual understanding, limited critical thinking skills, and the lack of innovative digital media integrated with local culture. This preliminary study aims to analyze the need for developing D’arisun AR (Deret Aritmatika dan Sunda), an Augmented Reality-based learning media grounded in Sundanese ethnomathematics to support third-grade students’ understanding of arithmetic sequences. A descriptive mixed-method design was employed. Data were collected from three public elementary schools in Tapos District, Depok City, through documentation of mathematics assessment scores (N = 90 students) and semi-structured interviews with three teachers and nine students. The findings showed that the average mathematics scores were 70, 66, and 68, all below the Minimum Mastery Criterion (75). Interviews revealed that students experienced difficulties in identifying numerical patterns and solving contextual mathematical problems. Teachers rarely used interactive technology-based media, and local cultural elements had not been integrated into mathematics instruction. Meanwhile, students showed strong interest in mobile learning applications and culturally contextual learning activities. The findings indicate the need for an ethnomathematics-based Augmented Reality learning media that can visualize arithmetic sequence patterns through Sundanese cultural representations, such as Mega Mendung batik motifs and traditional games. Therefore, this study recommends the development of D’arisun AR using the 4-D development model to support meaningful, contextual, and culturally responsive mathematics learning.

Abstract

Urban waste management often faces a gap between technical capacity and field realities. This study aims to describe the waste processing infrastructure at the Cipayung Final Processing Site (TPA) in Depok City, identify non-technical constraints that cause discrepancies between site capacity and waste volume, and analyze the roles and perceptions of stakeholders. A qualitative descriptive approach with a case study design was employed. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with TPA managers, and documentation. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model, with source and technique triangulation to ensure data validity. The results show that the site capacity and infrastructure (excavators and bulldozers) are not proportional to the daily incoming waste volume, primarily due to low levels of waste segregation at the source. The main non-technical constraints include lack of community participation and weak continuous education. Stakeholder perceptions vary, yet all agree on the need for more effective synergy and communication. This study recommends strengthening collaborative governance, enhancing education based on local wisdom, and making technical adjustments to infrastructure according to local waste characteristics.
