Abstract

Cyclodextrin is one of the compounds that can increase the solubility of a compound in water by forming inclusion complexes. Almost 70% of new drug candidates discovered recently are compounds that have poor solubility in water, so many researchers are conducting research using cyclodextrin as one of the developments in improving compounds in new drug discovery. However, the results of this complex formation must still be reviewed by researchers, whether the inclusion complex formed has succeeded in changing a compound into water soluble, and stable during its application. This article review summarizes the explanation of the evaluation of the results of the formation of cyclodextrin inclusion complexes with several water-insoluble compounds by searching scientific journals that have been published nationally and internationally in the last 10 (ten) years from 2013-2023 through the google scholar database, Pubchem, and Science Direct. Evaluation of the results of cyclodextrin inclusion complex formation can be done by several methods both computationally and laboratory testing.

Abstract

Infeksi Saluran Pernapasan Akut (ISPA) masih menjadi permasalahan kesehatan masyarakat yang penting, terutama pada anak-anak. Kurangnya pemahaman tentang pencegahan ISPA serta rendahnya pemanfaatan tanaman obat keluarga (TOGA) turut berkontribusi terhadap tingginya angka kejadian ISPA. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan masyarakat mengenai ISPA, mendorong penerapan perilaku hidup bersih dan sehat, serta mengoptimalkan pemanfaatan TOGA melalui edukasi dan praktik penanaman langsung. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi ceramah interaktif, diskusi, dan praktik budidaya TOGA. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman peserta tentang pencegahan ISPA dari 93,5% menjadi 95,7% berdasarkan hasil pre-test dan post-test, serta terbentuknya kelompok masyarakat yang berkomitmen memelihara kebun TOGA di lingkungan rumah. Temuan ini menegaskan pentingnya edukasi kesehatan berbasis masyarakat dalam memberdayakan keluarga untuk mencegah ISPA dan menciptakan lingkungan hidup yang lebih sehat. Improving Community Health through ARI Education and TOGA Cultivation in Nanjung Village, Margaasih District, Bandung Regency Acute Respiratory Tract Infection (ARI) remains a major public health issue, particularly among children. Limited understanding of ARI prevention and the low utilization of family medicinal plants (TOGA) contribute to its high prevalence. This community service program aimed to enhance public knowledge of ARI, promote clean and healthy living behaviors, and optimize the use of TOGA through health education and practical planting sessions. The implementation involved interactive lectures, discussions, and hands-on TOGA cultivation. The results indicated an improvement in participants’ understanding of ARI prevention from 93.5% to 95.7% based on pre- and post-tests, and the establishment of community groups committed to maintaining TOGA gardens. These outcomes highlight the practical significance of community-based health education in empowering households to prevent ARI and sustain healthier living environments.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia due to impaired insulin secretion. Diabetes often causes serious complications such as diabetic wounds, which are characterized by the appearance of ulcers, infections, or tissue damage in the feet. Conventional therapeutic approaches often show less than optimal effectiveness due to limited drug penetration into damaged skin tissue. The use of natural ingredients with antidiabetic and wound healing activities has been widely studied, but their effectiveness is often hampered by low solubility, stability, and bioavailability. One innovative strategy to overcome these problems is the development of nanotechnology-based drug delivery systems, one of which is Nanostructured Lipid Carrier (NLC). NLC is a lipid delivery system that combines solid and liquid lipids to increase stability, drug loading capacity, and control the release of active compounds. Purpose: This article aims to review the development of formulations from natural ingredients that have potential as antidiabetic and diabetic wound healing activities. Methods: This study is a literature review of articles published in the last ten years (2015 – 2025) from the ScienceDirect, PubMed, and Google Scholar databases. Results: Based on several studies, it shows that various active compounds such as curcumin (Curcuma longa), bay leaves (Syzygium polyanthum), and other flavonoid compounds have been formulated in the NLC system with significant improvements in stability, bioavailability, and pharmacological effectiveness. Conclusion: The NLC-based drug delivery system from natural ingredients has proven potential in increasing the effectiveness of antidiabetic therapy and diabetic wound healing. Further research is needed to optimize formulation stability, long-term toxicity testing, and clinical validation to support its therapeutic application.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease with a steadily increasing prevalence globally. Binahong leaves (Anrederacordifolia) and bay leaves (Syzygiumpolyanthum) contains flavonoids, such as kaempferol, which have the potential as antidiabetics, but its use is limited by the low solubility, stability, and bioavailability of the active compounds. This study aims to formulate and characterize a nanoparticle herbal medicine combining the two leaves using PlantCrystal technology, and develop it into an oral thin herbal preparation. The simplicia was processed through sorting, washing, drying, grinding, and sieving, then characterized and screened for phytochemicals. The nanoparticle herbal medicine was evaluated based on particle size, polydispersity index, zeta potential, and particle morphology. The membrane lysis release test showed an increase in the release of active substances compared to the simplicia. Furthermore, the formulation was developed into an oral thin herbal and evaluated for its physical properties, including organoleptic, water content, pH, film thickness, fold resistance, weight uniformity, and disintegration time.

Abstract

Medicinal plants play an essential role in human health by treating various diseases, including wound healing. Bogor Botanical Gardens (KRB) serve as a conservation site for numerous medicinal plant species. This study aims to explore the use of medicinal plants in KRB for wound healing activities. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected on plant species with known wound-healing properties. The study identified 65 species with potential, predominantly from the Fabaceae family. Notable examples include Archidendron clypearia, Caesalpinia coriaria, Cassia fistula, Peltophorum pterocarpum, Spatholobus littoralis, and Tamarindus indica, each with specific ethnobotanical uses. Among them, Tamarindus indica was found to be the most effective, capable of closing wounds by the fifth day. Plant parts used in treatment include leaves, bark, stems, sap, and others, commonly applied through compression or topical use. This study highlights the significant potential of KRB’s medicinal plant collection in contributing to traditional and scientific approaches to wound healing.
