Abstract

Sternberg's Triangular Love theory (1986) is used to examine love's intricacy in The Great Gatsby (Fitzgerald, 1925) and Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck (Hamka, 1939). The imbalance of passion, closeness, and commitment and culture's impact on relationships are the primary issues. Comparing the three components in Western and Eastern civilizations was the goal. We employed qualitative textual analysis to analyze important quotes and storylines from both novels. Results: (1) Gatsby-Daisy has illusory desire without intimacy or actual commitment, while Zainuddin-Hayati has normative commitment and repressed passion. (2) Individualistic and communal cultures regulate the imbalance. The analysis shows that societal pressures and love imbalances cause the catastrophic conflicts in both works. This work advances Sternberg's theory in comparative literary analysis.

Abstract

The development of gross motor skills in early childhood currently faces challenges due to an increasing sedentary lifestyle and gadget dependency, which impact the weakening of children's balance and physical coordination. This study aims to analyze the effect of the obstacle jump game on improving the gross motor skills of children aged 5–6 years in kindergarten. The research method used is quantitative with a quasi-experimental design of a pretest-posttest type without a control group. The research sample consisted of 20 children determined through a purposive sampling technique. Gross motor skills were measured through five main indicators, namely the ability to jump without assistance, running and jumping over obstacles, balance upon landing, movement coordination, as well as the children's courage and initiative. The intervention was carried out in a structured manner through six sessions of the obstacle jump game designed adaptively starting from the warming-up phase, gradual introduction of obstacles, to the cooling-down session. The data collection instrument was an observation sheet, while data analysis used the paired sample t-test assisted by SPSS version 23. The analysis results showed a t-value of 18.965 with a significance of 0.000 (p<0.05), indicating a significant increase in gross motor skills after the intervention was given. These findings indicate that the obstacle jump game is effective as a method of physical stimulation. This activity supports aspects of courage, body coordination, and children's active involvement in enjoyable physical activities, making it highly feasible to be integrated into early childhood education learning programs.

Abstract

Mathematics learning in elementary schools continues to face significant challenges, particularly regarding students' low conceptual understanding and learning motivation. This study aims to examine the integration of instructional media based on the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach and the deep learning approach in elementary school mathematics instruction. A Systematic literature review (SLR) method was employed by analyzing 15 scientific articles retrieved from Google Scholar and SINTA databases covering the period 2021–2026. The articles analyzed comprised five articles on mathematics instructional media, five articles on the CTL approach, and five articles on the deep learning approach. The findings revealed that: (1) the use of innovative instructional media demonstrably enhances students' interest, engagement, and conceptual understanding in mathematics; (2) the CTL approach effectively connects abstract mathematical concepts to real-life experiences, thereby improving learning outcomes and student engagement; and (3) the deep learning approach fosters students' critical, reflective, and collaborative thinking skills. The integration of these three components holds significant potential to create more meaningful, contextual, and deeper mathematics learning that meets the demands of 21st-century competencies. This study recommends the implementation of an integrated learning model that combines innovative media, the CTL approach, and deep learning principles in elementary school mathematics instruction.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)-based game-based learning on the critical thinking ability and numeracy literacy of fourth-grade students at SDN Lambunu, Parigi Moutong Regency. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group design was employed. The sample consisted of 56 students divided into experimental and control groups. Research instruments included validated critical thinking and numeracy literacy tests. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene's homogeneity test, independent sample t-test, and N-gain score. The results revealed significant differences between the two groups in critical thinking (t = 9.847; p = 0.000) and numeracy literacy (t = 10.213; p = 0.000). The experimental group's posttest mean was substantially higher than the control group on both variables. The experimental group's N-gain scores of 0.61 and 0.60 fell within the moderate category, whereas the control group remained in the low category. It is concluded that HOTS-based game-based learning is proven effective in improving elementary students' critical thinking and numeracy literacy, and is worthy of broader implementation in primary education, particularly in remote area contexts.
