Abstract

Etawa crossbred goats are goats that are the result of crossbreeding between Kacang goats and Etawa goats. This study aims to determine the correlation and diversity of locomotor size and body height of Etawa crossbred goats (PE) in Umejero Village, Busungbiu District, Buleleng, Bali. A total of 81 PE goats consisting of 44 male PE goats and 37 female PE goats were used in this study. The variables observed were the length of the upper front leg, the length of the middle front leg, the length of the lower front leg, the length of the upper hind leg, the length of the middle hind leg, the length of the lower hind leg, shoulder height, and hip height. The data obtained were analyzed using biplot analysis. The results showed that there was a positive correlation between hip height and the length of the upper, middle, and lower hind legs. Shoulder height was also positively correlated with the length of the upper, middle, and lower front legs. There was no significant difference in diversity (P>0.05) between the size of the locomotor and the height of PE goats. PE goats in quadrant I on the biplot graph have above average body size and have the potential to be used as seeds or fattened. PE goats in quadrant III have below average body size and are not good for use as seeds or fattened. Shoulder height and hip height are the most important variables to measure in the selection of PE goats in Umejero village. It is recommended to select breeding stock with a minimum standard of 70.6 cm shoulder height and 84.2 cm hip height in order to obtain livestock with above average growth performance.

Abstract

Long-tailed macaque (Macaca fascicularis) or also known as cynomolgus monkey and crab-eating monkey is one type of macaque that lives in Southeast Asia. Morphometric measurements aim to determine the morphometry of the long-tailed macaque itself and to determine the morphometric differences between adult male and female long-tailed macaques living on Mount Pusuk, North Lombok. This study uses the Length Measurements method with the research object being 17 samples of long-tailed macaques. The samples were analyzed by finding the average of each morphometric measurement parameter and comparing the morphometry between adult male and female long-tailed macaques. The results of the calculation of the average morphometry of adult long-tailed macaques living on Mount Pusuk are face width 75.00 mm; head length 121.12 mm; upper arm length 129.94 mm; lower arm length 133.76 mm; thigh length 139.76 mm; calf length 148.00 mm; sitting height 420.00 mm; and tail length 502.06 mm. From the calculation results, the morphometric size between adult male and female long-tailed monkeys living on Mount Pusuk differs significantly (P <0.05). The difference that can be seen is that the morphometry of male long-tailed monkeys is larger than that of female long-tailed monkeys. Further research is needed on the morphometry of long-tailed monkeys on different parameters and from various age groups to determine the development and comparison of long-tailed monkey morphometry.

Abstract

Crossbred etawah goats are one of the ruminant livestock breeds with great potential as milk producers with high nutritional value. One of the important factors that can influence milk productivity is milking time. This study aims to determine the effect of milking time on the milk yield of crossbred etawah goats. This research employed a quantitative method with an experimental approach. The sample consisted of 15 crossbred etawah goats milked twice daily for seven consecutive days. The collected data were analyzed using simple linear regression with the assistance of SPSS software. The results showed a significant effect of milking time on milk production. Morning milking produced a higher volume of milk compared to afternoon milking with a sig value of 0.001. This is presumably due to a longer rest period at night and cooler environmental conditions in the morning. Hormonal factors, such as the hormone prolactin which influences the lactation process, also tend to be more active in the morning, which can increase milk production. It can be concluded that milking time affects the milk yield of crossbred etawah goats with morning milking being more effective in increasing production. Milking time is an important aspect in the lactation management of dairy goats. It is recommended that farmers optimize morning milking schedules to achieve maximum milk yield.

Abstract

Diluent is a substance used to maintain and protect spermatozoa during the storage process. Natural-based diluents are still rarely found, making it necessary to develop diluents derived from naturally available ingredients. This study aims to evaluate the effect of palmyra fruit water diluent with the addition of various concentrations of egg yolk and moringa leaf extract on the quality of boar semen. This study used one Landrace boar as the semen source, approximately 1.5 years old, in healthy condition. The study employed a Completely Randomized Design CRD with seven treatments: T0 as the control palmyra fruit water diluent only, T1 palmyra fruit water + 10% egg yolk + 5% moringa leaf extract, T2 palmyra fruit water + 10% egg yolk + 10% moringa leaf extract, T3 palmyra fruit water + 10% egg yolk + 15% moringa leaf extract, T4 palmyra fruit water + 20% egg yolk + 5% moringa leaf extract, T5 palmyra fruit water + 20% egg yolk + 10% moringa leaf extract, and T6 palmyra fruit water + 20% egg yolk + 15% moringa leaf extract. The semen was stored at a temperature of approximately 15-20°C for 48 hours. The observed semen quality parameters included motility, viability, and spermatozoa abnormalities, with each treatment repeated four times. The obtained data were analysed using ANOVA, followed by Duncan's test if significant differences were found. The results of Duncan's test indicated that the T6 treatment produced the best semen quality compared to other treatments, with motility at 59.50±1.291%, viability at 59.25±1.708%, and abnormalities at 7.25±0.500%. It can be concluded that the diluent formulation that resulted in the best spermatozoa quality after 48 hours of storage was treatment T6, composed of palmyra fruit water + 20% egg yolk + 15% moringa leaf extract. Further research is needed to determine the fertility potential of Landrace boar semen diluted with palmyra fruit water extender with the addition of various concentrations of egg yolk and moringa leaf extract to evaluate the effectiveness of the extender in an artificial insemination program.

Abstract

neutralize free radicals. Mimosa pudica Linn. leaves have advantages as herbal medicine ingredients. Through phytochemical screening, mimosa pudica contains antioxidant compounds such as alkaloids, phenols, steroids, flavonoids, and saponins. This study aims to determine the antioxidant potential of mimosa pudica leaves as herbal medicine ingredients. Using the antioxidant capacity and IC50% methods with concentrations of 0 mg/ml, 0.01 mg/ml, 0.029 mg/ml, 0.44 mg/ml, 0.73 mg/ml with a wavelength of 517 nm, testing using a spectrophotometer. The highest results were obtained from a concentration of 10 ppm, which was 64.326% and the final result of the IC50% test was 57.58 ppm. Based on the results obtained, it can be seen that the ethanol extract of mimosa pudica leaves has strong antioxidant activity. It is necessary to conduct further and deeper research on mimosa leaves using other methods to find out how well mimosa leaves can be used in the world of health, considering that mimosa leaves are easy to find.

Abstract

Enhancing the population of Cemani chickens, a native Indonesian poultry genetic resource, requires reproductive technologies such as artificial insemination (AI). This study aimed to analyze the effect of storage duration on Cemani rooster semen diluted with a 20% egg yolk phosphate and 15% sugarcane juice formulation. A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was employed with four storage periods (0, 24, 48, and 72 hours) at 5–7°C. Parameters observed included sperm motility, viability, and abnormalities. Results showed a decline in progressive motility from 80.33% (0 hours) to 54% (72 hours), viability from 88.17% (0 hours) to 62% (72 hours), and an increase in abnormalities from 5.17% to 9.33%. Despite the decline, all parameters remained within AI standards (motility >40%, abnormalities <20%) up to 72 hours. This study concludes that egg yolk phosphate and sugarcane juice combination is effective as a low-cost natural diluent for Cemani semen preservation. Further research is recommended to optimize diluent composition for longer storage.
