Abstract

Abstract

This research is based on the difficulties of students in learning for elementary school (English for Children) courses. In essence, this class action research aims to improve speaking skills in speaking for elementary school courses by using the snakes and ladders game approach. This research was carried out at the Al Maksum College of elementary school teacher education study program in brade III-C. The instruments used consisted of the test instruments, namely speaking ability test questions and non-tests in the form of the students activity observation sheets. The results of this study show that speaking ability from cycle I to cycle II has increased with an average score of 68.5 in cycle I to 82.0 in cycle II as well as the entire learning process carried out from cycle I to cycle II has also increased. Therefore, it can be concluded that the snakes and ladders game approach can improve students’ speaking skills in the Speaking for Elementary School Course.

Abstract

Current environmental problems, both global and national, are largely caused by human behavior, therefore environmental problems can be minimized by instilling a sense of environmental care. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between environmental knowledge and environmental care attitudes. The population and sample in this study were 77 students of the Social Studies Education Study Program at STKIP Al Maksum, class of 2022 and 2023. The instruments used were environmental knowledge test questions and an environmental care attitude questionnaire. Based on the results of the study, the results obtained on the variable of environmental knowledge level of students of the Social Studies Education Study Program at STKIP Al Maksum were included in the High category as many as 46 (60%) respondents, then 31 (40%) respondents were included in the medium category and no respondents were included in the low category. On the environmental care attitude variable, students of the Social Studies Education Study Program were included in the high category as many as 49 (64%) respondents, then 28 (36%) respondents were included in the good category and no respondents were included in the bad category. The results of the study indicate that the closeness of the relationship between knowledge and environmental care attitudes is in the very high category with a correlation coefficient value of 0.985. In addition, a significance value of 0.000 is obtained which is smaller than 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05) so H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted, which means there is a significant and positive relationship between environmental knowledge and the formation of environmental care attitudes of students in the Social Studies Education Study Program.

Abstract

This research aimed to develop and evaluate Basic Science Concepts instructional materials integrating a project-based inquiry model (BAKDIPA) to improve among pre-service elementary teachers. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) design using the Plomp model, consisting of Investigation, Design, and Realization phases. The participants included 33 students in the experimental class and 35 students in the control class enrolled in a Basic Science Concepts course. Data were collected using validation sheets, SPS test instruments, and practicality questionnaires. Experts and practitioners assessed the validity of the developed product, while its practicality and effectiveness were examined through field implementation. The validation results revealed a high level of validity with overall mean scores of 4.10 for the Semester Learning Plan and 4.27 for instructional materials, categorized as “very valid”. Practicality assessment also indicated positive user responses, confirming that the material was feasible to implement. The effectiveness test using a paired t-test indicated a significant improvement in SPS, where the tcount (14.5) > ttable (2.87). The normalized gain analysis further showed an N-Gain of 0.813, categorized as medium effectiveness, while the distribution of SPS levels demonstrated that more students in the experimental class achieved high proficiency compared to the control class. In conclusion, the BAKDIPA instructional material is valid, practical, and effective for enhancing SPS in Basic Science learning for pre-service elementary teachers. This research provides a promising contribution toward strengthening inquiry-oriented science education in teacher preparation programs.
