Abstract

Abstract

Background. Shirk, or associating partners with Allah, is a major challenge for Gen Z Muslim youth who are influenced by social media, consumerist culture and secular ideologies. These influences can trigger behaviors that go against tawhid, such as celebrity idolization and materialism. Therefore, effective strategies are needed to strengthen religious understanding and maintain commitment to tawhid amidst the challenges of the modern era. Purpose. This research aims to identify the challenges and strategies faced by the Gen Z Muslim youth in avoiding shirk in the present era. Specifically, this research analyzes the factors influencing the tendency towards contemporary forms of shirk, and seeks effective solutions to strengthen the understanding of the principle of tawhid, using a case study based on Qs An – Nisa verse 48. Method. The research method used is a qualitative method, by analyzing documents. Data was obtained from various literatures discussing shirk, as well as the shirk occurring in the Gen Z era. It also connects this with the Quranic text Qs An - Nisa verse 178. Analysis was conducted to identify new forms of polytheism, as well as the challenges and strategies to avoid it.. Results. Shirk, associating partners with Allah, is Islam's gravest sin, unforgivable without repentance. It includes major shirk (idol worship) and minor shirk (showing off in worship). Modern forms arise from technology and self-worship. The Qur'an (An-Nisa [4]: 48) stresses its contradiction to monotheism. Conclusion. Shirk challenges Gen Z faith amid technological advances, social media, and identity crises, risking subtle polytheism. This study emphasizes understanding shirk to preserve monotheism and strengthen faith. Creative, relevant religious education is vital to help youth navigate spiritual challenges in the modern era.

Abstract

This article examines a Qur’anic manuscript from the KHASTARA Khazanah Pustaka Nasional collection, catalogued as manuscript number 20.227M, originally preserved at the Mpu Tantular Museum in East Java. The study applies a codicological approach to analyze the manuscript’s physical features, including storage conditions, cover, size, writing material, illumination, symbols, and the presence or absence of a colophon. This research is conducted because no previous study has specifically examined this manuscript. The findings show that the manuscript was written on daluang paper using a simplified tsulusi jawi script. Its neat text arrangement and framed layout around each surah reflect careful scribal craftsmanship, although natural deterioration is visible. The absence of a colophon leaves the scribe’s identity and production date unknown. Nevertheless, the manuscript’s characteristics indicate a connection to the Qur’anic manuscript tradition of East Java. This study contributes to understanding the historical, physical, and cultural significance of Qur’anic manuscripts in Indonesia.

Abstract

: This article discusses the theory of i‘jāz al-Qur’an (the inimitability of the Qur’an) and the critiques offered by Muslim scholars toward various interpretations of it. The Qur’an, as the eternal miracle of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), possesses an unmatched uniqueness in terms of language, structure, and meaning. Throughout Islamic intellectual history, scholars have provided diverse explanations regarding the essence of this miraculous nature. Some emphasized the rhetorical beauty and linguistic structure of the Qur’an, while others focused on its profound meanings and universal truths. This study also examines criticisms of specific theories such as al-sarfah, proposed by certain Mu‘tazilite scholars, which are considered to diminish the true miraculous quality of the Qur’an. Using a qualitative, library-based analytical approach, this article concludes that the inimitability of the Qur’an lies in the perfect harmony of its eloquence, depth of meaning, and timeless truth.

Abstract

Abstract

The emergence of new religious movements such as Bábism, which claim to have alternative sources of revelation outside the Qur'an, particularly through the Qayyum al-Asma' by Sayyid 'Ali Muhammad Shirazi (the Báb). The aim of this study is to identify and analyze forms of deviant esoteric interpretation (ad dakhil bil isyarah) in this book, specifically in Surah 93 pages 192-193, and to compare them with interpretations from mainstream Qur'anic exegesis (tafsir). The research employs a qualitative method with a library research approach and descriptive-analytical design. Data collection was conducted by tracing and recording texts from the original manuscript of Qayyum al-Asma', while data analysis used content analysis and comparative analysis through five steps: identifying the Báb's claims, describing his interpretation, collecting comparator interpretations, comparative analysis, and ad dakhil bil isyarah analysis. The findings reveal three forms of ad dakhil bil isyarah deviation in Qayyum al-Asma': the symbol of qamis (shirt) claimed as a medium for transmitting spiritual authority and blood as a sacrament of salvation; the symbol of al-nahl (bee) transforming honey into an "elixir" of life; and the symbol of al-nar wa al-nur (fire and light) at Mount Thur, where the Báb claimed himself as the entity that spoke to Prophet Moses. These three deviations contradict the authoritative interpretations of Ibn Kathir, Al-Qurtubi, Al-Mishbah, Jalalain, and the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs.

Abstract

This Article examines the concept of rahmatan lil-‘alamin in the Qur’an as an ethical foundation in responding to the humanitarian conflict in Palestine. Amid ongoing oppression, violence, and human rights violations, Qur’anic values such as compassion, justice, forgiveness, and respect for human dignity are often marginalized by political and power interests. The main problem addressed in this research is how the concept of rahmatan lil-‘alamin can be understood through a maqāṣid al-Qur’an approach and its relevance to the Palestine–Israel conflict. This study employs a qualitative approach using library research methods. The primary data consist of QS. Ali Imran [3]:159, Az-Zumar [39]:53, Al-Anbiya [21]:107, and Luqman [31]:18, analyzed through a maqāṣid al-Qur’an perspective with Ibn ‘Āshūr’s At-Taḥrīr wa At-Tanwīr as the main exegetical reference. Secondary data are drawn from academic journals, books, and international human rights reports. The findings indicate that these verses emphasize gentleness, consultation, forgiveness, hope in divine mercy, and the rejection of arrogance and violence in social relations. These values align with the principles of human rights protection, particularly for vulnerable groups such as women and children in Palestine. Therefore, rahmatan lil-‘alamin is not merely a theological concept but also carries social, cultural, and humanitarian implications as a foundation for establishing justice, peace, and human dignity in a prolonged conflict situation Palestine-Israel.
