Abstract

There are many negative effects on the use of chemical-based medicine, therefore many researchers are interested in finding natural ingredients that have the potential to replace chemical treatment. One of the plants from the Zingiberaceae family that is used as a medicinal ingredient is cardamom plant (Amomum cardamomun L), Many people often use cardamom for treatment such as aromatic ingredients, carminative (reducing gas in the stomach), cough medicine, halitosis and so on. Cardamom contains phytochemical compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and saponins. The purpose of this study was to analyze the level of bioactivity of cardamom leaf ethanol extract to Artemia salina L shrimp larvae by BSLT method and determine the LC₅₀ value. This study used quantitative methods that were experimental and used 6 treatment concentrations, namely 25 ppm, 50 ppm, 100 ppm, 200 ppm, 500 ppm, 1000 ppm and 1 negative control with each concentration replicated 5 times. Artemia salina L larvae were used as many as 350 heads with 10 heads each for each concentration. The death of larvae is calculated after 24 hours of treatment. The calculation result of LC₅₀ from cardamom leaf ethanol extract (Amomum cardamomum L) with data analysis using SPSS version 25 is 151,671 ppm. This shows that cardamom leaf ethanol extract (Amomum cardamomum L) is toxic due to LC₅₀

Abstract

Acne is a common skin problem caused by excessive growth of Staphylococcus aureus on the skin due to increased sebum production. Dragon scale leaves (Drymoglossum piloselloides) contain active compounds such as saponins, phenols, tannins, and flavonoids, which have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. This community service program aims to enhance public knowledge about the utilization of dragon scale leaf extract in acne gel formulations. The activities included education, a demonstration of gel preparation, and an evaluation of training effectiveness through pre-tests and post-tests. The evaluation results showed an increase in participant understanding from 20% to 75%, exceeding the targeted improvement. Active community participation indicates a strong interest in utilizing herbal plants as an alternative skincare solution, highlighting the potential for further development.

Abstract

Acne appears due to increased sebum production on the skin and the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of dragon scale leaves (EEDSL) against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria provides strong inhibitory power. Dragon scale leaves (Drymoglossum piloselloides(L.) Pressl.)) can act as an anti-acne and its use as a preparation has not been widely carried out. This study aims to determine that EEDSL can be formulated as a gel preparation that meets the physicochemical quality requirements and that EEDSL gel preparations have antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. This study was conducted using an experimental method, sampling using the purposive sampling method in Kidupen Village, Juhar District, Karo Regency. Dragon scale leaf extract was obtained using the maceration technique with an ethanol solvent. EEDSL was formulated into a gel and then subjected to physical evaluation tests and antibacterial tests on staphylococcus aureus bacteria by looking at the diameter of the inhibitory power formed. The results of the study showed that the formulation of the anti-acne gel preparation was colorless, clear, and odorless obtained at F0. At F1; F2; and F3, a brown gel preparation was obtained with a semi-solid form and a distinctive EEDSL smell. The antibacterial activity test of EEDSL against Staphylococcus aureus showed an average value ± SD of the inhibition zone in each formula, namely at F0: 0.00 ± 0.00 mm; F1: 6.86 ± 0.17 mm; F2: 8.46 ± 0.19 mm; F3: 9.17 ± 0.18 mm; and positive control: 14.09 ± 0.23 mm. Based on the results of the data obtained, it can be concluded that EEDSL can be formulated as a gel preparation that meets the physicochemical quality requirements. Each concentration of ethanol extract of dragon scale leaves (Drymoglossum piloselloides (L.) Pressl.) has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus with a medium category.

Abstract

Liquid bath soap is a liquid preparation used to clean the skin, made from soap base ingredients with added surfactants, foam stabilizers and fragrances, which is used when bathing without irritating to the skin. Liquid bath soap is made by saponifying oil and fat with KOH. Quality soap must have high detergent power, can be used on various types of materials and remain effective at different temperatures and water levels. In this study, this liquid bath soap used the addition of beetroot juice which is rich in benefits for skin health. The aim of this research is to find out whether beetroot juice formulated into liquid bath soap will have a moisturizing effect on the skin, and determine the concentration of beetroot juice as the best skin moisturizer. This research is made into four formulas. First without the addition of F0 Beetroot Juice (0%), Second with the addition of F1 Beetroot Juice (10%), Third with the addition of F2 Beetroot Juice (15%), Fourth with the addition of F3 Beetroot Juice (20%). From the results of this research, we got good results in the liquid bath soap formulation with the addition of 20% beetroot juice (F3), and from the results, the F3 formulation (20%) was also the most preferred by the panelists for the aroma and color of the fruit juice liquid bath soap beet.

Abstract

Latar belakang: Evaluasi cemaran mikroba pada makanan, obat, kosmetik, dan lingkungan melalui pendekatan narrative review menunjukkan bahwa kontaminasi mikrobiologis masih menjadi isu penting dalam menjamin keamanan produk dan kesehatan masyarakat. Berbagai jurnal melaporkan adanya mikroorganisme patogen seperti Escherichia coli, Salmonella sp., Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, dan Candida albicans yang ditemukan pada sampel makanan, kosmetik, maupun obat. Pada produk makanan, cemaran mikroba sering muncul akibat proses produksi dan penyimpanan yang kurang higienis, sehingga berpotensi menimbulkan keracunan pangan. Sementara itu, pada kosmetik, terutama produk tester, tingkat kontaminasi cukup tinggi dan dapat menyebabkan iritasi atau infeksi kulit. Obat-obatan juga berisiko mengalami penurunan efektivitas bila terkontaminasi, sehingga pengawasan mutu melalui standar Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) dan uji sterilitas menjadi sangat penting. Lingkungan produksi, termasuk udara, air, dan peralatan, terbukti menjadi sumber utama kontaminasi silang yang memengaruhi kualitas produk akhir. Tujuan: Tujuan utama dari evaluasi ini adalah memastikan keamanan, kualitas, serta perlindungan konsumen melalui penerapan standar higienitas dan regulasi yang ketat .Metode: Metode literatur yang digunakan secara narrative review / unsystematic review tinjauan lebih deskriptif, naratif, dan subjektif, sering digunakan untuk ulasan umum. Hasil penelitian: menunjukkan adanya pertumbuhan koloni bakteri pada sampel. Beberapa sampel menunjukkan ALT melebihi standar BPOM (koloni/gram). Kesimpulan : Dari hasil kajian literatur ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa pengendalian cemaran mikroba harus dilakukan secara menyeluruh, mulai dari bahan baku hingga distribusi, dengan penerapan metode uji mikrobiologi seperti Total Plate Count (ALT/TPC)
