Abstract

Indonesia has various types of plants that have the potential to be developed into modern medicines. The main source of antioxidants comes from plants. Antioxidants can be defined as compounds capable of delaying, slowing down, or inhibiting oxidation reactions. An antioxidant group that has great potential has the ability to prevent the occurrence of premature aging, inflammatory diseases, and degenerative diseases. The availability of antioxidants in the body must be maintained and increased to be able to ward off free radicals. The purpose of this study was to determine or study the nature of the activity of flavonoid compounds from the ethanol extract of melinjo leaves (Gnetum gnemon Linn.), which can be used as antioxidants using the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-pikrilhidrazyl) method. The sample used in this study was melinjo leaves obtained from Kutacane, Southeast Aceh. Samples were extracted using ethanol solvent, and antioxidant activity testing was carried out by visible spectrophotometry using the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhidrazyl) method. This method uses an analysis of the Inhibitory Concentration of 50% (IC50) as a determination of free radical scavenging activity; this value describes the concentration of the test compound that can trap free radicals by 50%. The results of this study indicate that the IC50 value of the ethanol extract of melinjo leaves has a very strong effect, with an IC50 value of 28.92 μg/mL. In this study using quercetin as a reference solution, which has a very strong effect with an IC50 value of 6.2933 μg/mL, so it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of melinjo leaves has activity asan antioxidant using the DPPH method.

Abstract

Grape leaves (Vitis vinifera L.) contain vitamin E and flavonoids which had the potential to act as a moisturizer by preventing the loss of body fluids from the surface of the skin, so the lips will not dry quickly. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of grape leaf extract in the form of lip balm lip balm that meets quality. Grape leaves are made in the form of thick extracts and formulated into lip balms with various concentrations of 0, 1, 3 and 5%. The results showed that grape leaf extract which was formulated in the form of lip balm preparations had homogeneous properties and different colors for each concentration, the higher the concentration, the light green color became dark green. Lip balm preparations have a melting point value of each formula 56.2-61.0℃; strength test value of 220-300 g; pH test value 5.56-5.94; stable at room temperature for 4 weeks, and does not cause irritation such as erythema, papules and vesicles. The effectiveness of this lip balm preparation was tested using a skin analyzer with a humidity value of 9.43 for each formula; 17.70; 28.95; and 39.93%. The conclusion of this study is that grape leaf extract lip balm has a high level of moisture at a concentration of 5% (F3) and has a significant difference with other formulas.

Abstract

Basil leaves are very rich in nutritious substances. Among them are beta carotene, vitamin C, macro minerals (calcium, phosphorus, magnesium). This plant is included in the Lamiaceae family which contains various chemical compounds, including phenols, saponins, alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and essential oils. The benefits of basil have been widely applied in people's lives as traditional medicine, for example, basil leaves are used to treat, cough, colds and so on. Body odor can be caused by several factors such as genetic factors, psychological conditions, food factors, obesity factors and clothing materials used. One of the triggers of body odor due to bacterial infection, namely Staphyloccous aureus bacteria. This study aims to formulate deodorant spray ethanol extract of basil leaves, test the physical properties of deodorant spray preparations, and determine whether the preparation of deodorant spray ethanol extract of basil leaves can inhibit staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Physical tests were carried out on days 0 (after manufacture) and 7 with the results of the organoleptical physical test of the preparation having a distinctive odor of basil, brownish yellow in color, It has a pH of 4 which corresponds to the pH of the skin, and experiencing an increase in viscosity on day 7 examination. The antibacterial test results of formulations 1, 2, and 3 showed inhibition of the banteri.
