Abstract

Modern learning focuses on active student engagement through thinking, creativity, and collaboration, supported by PjBL and AI to suit the digital era. This study explores the impact of AI-assisted project-based learning (PjBL) on students' analytical thinking, creative thinking, and collaboration skills in biology education, focusing on the circulatory system. Using a quasi-experimental design with 80 eleventh-grade students (40 experimental, 40 control) from SMAN 1 Magelang, Indonesia, the research employed MANOVA and ANOVA to analyze posttest scores. Results revealed significant improvements in the experimental group, with mean differences of 5.67 (analytical thinking, *p* = 0.001), 4.12 (creative thinking, *p* = 0.010), and 3.89 (collaboration, *p* = 0.015). AI tools enhanced analytical skills through data visualization and feedback, fostered creativity via simulations and iterative problem-solving, and supported collaboration via AI-driven task allocation and communication platforms. However, collaboration gains were more modest, underscoring the enduring role of interpersonal dynamics. The study concludes that integrating AI into PjBL effectively cultivates higher-order thinking skills, though its implementation requires balancing technological and human-centric pedagogical approaches. These findings advocate for AI as a transformative tool in biology education, provided ethical and accessibility considerations are addressed.

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan bagian dari tahapan implementasi model Place-Based Project Learning (PBPL) berbasis ekopedagogi yang dikembangkan untuk meningkatkan literasi ekologis mahasiswa Pendidikan Biologi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menguji keterlaksanaan dan efektivitas model PBPL yang diintegrasikan dengan aplikasi identifikasi tumbuhan berbasis kecerdasan buatan, yaitu PlantNet dan Seek by iNaturalist, dalam meningkatkan literasi ekologis mahasiswa pada mata kuliah Ekologi Tumbuhan. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan research and development (R&D) pada tahap uji coba terbatas dengan desain one-group pretest–posttest. Subjek penelitian terdiri atas 30 mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Biologi FKIP Universitas Sriwijaya semester genap tahun akademik 2024/2025. Instrumen penelitian meliputi lembar observasi keterlaksanaan model, angket respon mahasiswa, dan tes literasi ekologis dengan reliabilitas α = 0,87. Intervensi pembelajaran berlangsung selama empat minggu dengan tahapan eksplorasi lingkungan, perancangan proyek, implementasi proyek lapangan berbasis aplikasi AI, dan refleksi ekopedagogis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keterlaksanaan model mencapai 93% (kategori sangat baik), respon mahasiswa terhadap pembelajaran mencapai 91% (kategori sangat positif), dan terjadi peningkatan signifikan pada literasi ekologis mahasiswa dari skor rata-rata 61,5 menjadi 77,2 (t(29)=10,54, p<0,001, Cohen’s d=2,20). Temuan ini mengindikasikan bahwa integrasi teknologi cerdas dalam model PBPL efektif dalam meningkatkan keterlibatan, kesadaran ekologis, dan kemampuan reflektif mahasiswa terhadap isu-isu lingkungan.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the critical thinking skills of students in the Biology Education Study Program at Pattimura University in solving Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) questions related to modern biotechnology. A descriptive research method was employed, utilizing a test instrument and unstructured interviews to identify factors influencing student performance. The measured critical thinking indicators include clarification, assessment, inference, and strategy. The analysis results indicate that the average student score was 72.5, categorized as "good." Students demonstrated strong abilities in clarification (78), assessment (81), and strategy (70) but encountered difficulties in inference (61). The score variation, with a standard deviation of 11.95, reflects differences in students' proficiency levels. Factors affecting these results include academic background, experience in scientific argumentation, and access to learning resources. The findings highlight the need to strengthen inference skills through discussion-based learning, case studies, and problem-based learning strategies. Enhancing critical thinking skills is expected to better prepare students for challenges in the educational field and enable them to guide learners in developing analytical thinking abilities.

Abstract

The Adiwiyata program requires a structured service method to encourage sustainable environmental practices in schools. This community service activity aimed to enhance environmental awareness, improve waste management skills, and strengthen green school culture at SD Plus IGM Palembang. The program involved 31 participants, consisting of teachers and students, and applied a participatory service method through six stages: needs analysis, socialization, training, application of appropriate technology, mentoring, and evaluation. Needs analysis was conducted through observation and interviews to identify school conditions and environmental challenges. Training activities included hands-on demonstrations of biopore hole construction and guided implementation of a “Digital Waste Bank” application as an appropriate technology for waste management. Mentoring was carried out to ensure participants’ engagement and continuity of practice. Program evaluation employed a mixed-method approach using pre-test and post-test instruments to measure changes in participants’ knowledge, attitudes, and skills, supported by observation and interviews to assess behavioral changes and program effectiveness. The results showed an increase in participants’ competencies, with the average score improving from 74.68 to 96.6 and an N-Gain value of 0.90 (high category). The activity contributed to improved environmental awareness and more systematic waste management practices within the school environment. Tangible outputs included functional biopore holes and an operational Digital Waste Bank system. This service model supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4 and 13 and can be adopted by other schools in developing sustainable green school initiatives.
