Abstract

Discipline is one of the fundamental aspects in creating a school culture that is conducive to the learning process. This article examines the role of school principals in cultivating discipline within the school environment. The study employs a qualitative approach through literature review and analysis of educational leadership practices. The findings reveal that the principal of SMKN 2 Pelaihari acts as a role model, motivator, and supervisor in instilling the values of discipline among teachers, staff, and students. The strategies implemented include establishing clear regulations, maintaining consistency in enforcing school rules, providing motivation, and fostering a collaborative culture oriented toward disciplinary values. Furthermore, effective leadership is able to build harmonious communication and create a school environment that supports the internalization of discipline as part of students’ character development. In conclusion, the leadership of the school principal is a key factor in shaping a sustainable culture of discipline, which positively impacts the quality of learning and the overall school climate.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze needs assessment-based educational planning in the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum at SMK Negeri 1 Simpang Empat. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, limited participatory observations, and document analysis of the School Operational Curriculum (KOSP), School Work Plan (RKS), School Activity and Budget Plan (RKAS), and industry partnership documents. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, including data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings reveal that educational planning has been conducted in a participatory and data-driven manner through school self-evaluation, tracer studies, and feedback from industry partners. The integration of needs assessment results into planning documents demonstrates vertical alignment between vision, programs, and budgeting. However, long-term labor market projections and outcome-based performance indicators require further strengthening. This study contributes to the development of adaptive and reflective vocational education planning models oriented toward graduate relevance and employability.

Abstract

The quality of learning in Vocational High Schools (SMK) still faces various challenges, particularly related to teachers’ pedagogical competence and the effectiveness of the learning process. One strategic effort to improve learning quality is through effective academic supervision. However, in practice, the implementation of supervision is often not optimal due to the limited skills of supervisors. This study aims to describe supervisors’ skills, analyze the implementation of academic supervision, and explain the role of supervisors’ skills in improving learning quality at SMKN 2 Pelaihari. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and then analyzed using an interactive model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results show that supervisors’ skills, including technical, interpersonal, and conceptual aspects, play an important role in the implementation of academic supervision. Communication, observation, and evaluation skills are the dominant factors in enhancing supervision effectiveness. The supervision process is carried out through planning, classroom observation, and follow-up stages, using collaborative and coaching-based approaches. These approaches are proven to enhance teachers’ reflective awareness and encourage improvements in learning quality, although there are still limitations in the follow-up stage. Therefore, strengthening supervisors’ skills and implementing sustainable supervision are key factors in improving learning quality in vocational schools.
