Abstract

The full-day school program was implemented as an effort to improve the quality of education by increasing students' learning time at school. This system provides opportunities for students to gain broader learning experiences, both in academic aspects and character development. However, the implementation of the full-day school program also raises questions about students' responses to homework (PR) after undergoing learning activities throughout the day at school. This study aims to determine the level of response of fifth-grade students to homework in schools that implement the full-day school program. This study uses a descriptive quantitative approach with a survey method. The study population was all fifth-grade students at one of the elementary schools in Garut, totaling 25 students, and all of them were used as research samples. The data collection instruments used were a Likert-scale questionnaire and interviews as supporting data. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques through the stages of editing, coding, scoring, and data tabulation. The results showed that the level of student response to homework was in the high category at 84% (22 students), the medium category at 16% (3 students), and there were no students in the low category. These results indicate that the majority of students have a positive response to homework despite following the full-day school system. These findings indicate that giving homework is acceptable to students as long as the assignments are appropriate for their abilities and relevant to the learning material.

Abstract

Speaking skills are crucial for supporting elementary school students' communication, yet in practice, their proficiency remains low. This is characterized by limitations in sentence structure, lack of confidence, and difficulty conveying ideas coherently. One approach to addressing these issues is the implementation of storytelling methods using flipbooks, which can create interactive and engaging learning. This research employed a quantitative approach with an experimental design and a one-group pretest-posttest design. The subjects were 39 fifth-grade students at SDN 2 Hegarsari. Data collection used a speaking skills performance test covering both linguistic and non-linguistic aspects. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive and inferential statistics using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and a paired sample t-test. The results showed an increase in the average score from 43.46 in the pretest to 67,82 in the posttest, with a significance level of 0.000 <0.05. This improvement occurred because the storytelling method provided students with the opportunity to practice composing and conveying stories orally, while the flipbook media helped students understand the storyline through engaging visualizations, making it easier to remember and retell. Consequently, there was improvement in linguistic aspects, such as vocabulary, sentence structure, intonation, and pronunciation as well as non-linguistic aspects, such as confidence, fluency, expression, volume, and topic mastery. Thus, the integration of the storytelling method and flipbook media has proven effective in improving elementary school students' speaking skills and can be used as an innovative, interactive, and contextual learning alternative

Abstract

Writing skills are one of the essential language skills in elementary education as they play a significant role in developing students' communication, critical thinking, and creativity. This study aims to analyze the writing skills of third-grade students at elementary school, which include aspects of content organization, writing conventions, and handwriting neatness, as well as to identify the internal and external factors influencing these skills. This research employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. The population consisted of all third-grade students at elementary school, totaling 30 students, using a saturated sampling technique. The research instruments included questionnaires and interviews. The results showed that most students' writing skills were in the moderate category (93.3%), while both high and low categories were 3.3% each. These findings indicate that students' writing abilities are relatively stable but still require improvement through more varied teaching strategies and a supportive learning environment.

Abstract

Reading skills are part of a literacy culture that must be cultivated from an early age. However, the reality on the ground shows that many elementary school students still experience difficulties with reading comprehension. This study aims to improve the reading comprehension skills of fourth-grade elementary school students through the use of e-comics. This is motivated by the students' low ability to understand reading content in Indonesian language lessons. The method used was Classroom Action Research (CAR), implemented in two cycles, with stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The study subjects were 19 fourth-grade students. Data were collected through reading comprehension tests and student response questionnaires regarding learning using e-comics. The results showed that the use of the e-comic entitled "A Pair of Goodness Sandals" was effective in improving the reading comprehension skills of fourth-grade elementary school students. In the initial (pre-cycle) phase, students' reading comprehension skills were still relatively low, with an average score of 50.59 and a completion rate of 0%. After the interventions in Cycle I, the average score increased to 72.24 with a completion rate of 37%, although this increase was still in the moderate category. Then, in Cycle II, students' reading comprehension skills increased significantly, with an average score of 87.76, a completion rate of 100%, and an N-Gain of 0.75, which is considered high. These results indicate that the implementation of e-comics not only improves learning outcomes quantitatively but also helps students comprehend reading content at various levels.
