Abstract

Kulit bawang merah (Allium cepa L.) diketahui mengandung senyawa metabolit sekunder seperti flavonoid, saponin, dan tanin yang memiliki potensi sebagai bahan aktif obat herbal. Namun, pemanfaatannya masih terbatas dan sering berakhir sebagai limbah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi stabilitas fisik sediaan emulgel ekstrak etanol 96% kulit bawang merah dengan berbagai konsentrasi ekstrak. Emulgel diformulasikan menggunakan basis karbopol 940 dan dilakukan uji organoleptis, pH, daya sebar, daya lekat, serta viskositas.Hasil uji organoleptis menunjukkan adanya perubahan warna sediaan menjadi semakin coklat seiring peningkatan konsentrasi ekstrak, tanpa memengaruhi bau maupun konsistensi semi solid. Nilai pH seluruh formula masih berada dalam rentang aman sesuai SNI (4,5–8,0) dan pH kulit (4,5–7,5). Uji daya sebar menunjukkan peningkatan diameter sebar sejalan dengan penurunan viskositas, sedangkan uji daya lekat mengalami penurunan dengan bertambahnya konsentrasi ekstrak. Formula tanpa ekstrak (F0) memiliki viskositas tertinggi, sedangkan penambahan ekstrak menurunkan viskositas secara bertahap.

Abstract

Robusta coffee bean have compounds flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins and tannins. This compound has the benefit of being an antihyperglycemic which plays a role in inhibiting absorption glucose, preventing the formation of AGEs chains, and increasing the activity of antioxidant enzymes. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of the robusta coffee bean fraction which is effective in reducing blood glucose levels in STZ-NA induced mice. Research conducted is experimental research. Using 30 mice aged 2-3 months with a body weight of 18-25 g and grouped into 6 groups, that is group I negative streptozotocin 5.6 mg/kg weight and nicotinamide 15.4 mg/kg weight, group II positive control was given glibenclamide 0.65 mg/kg weight, Group III was given robusta coffee bean extract 400 mg/kg weight Group IV was given the n-hexane fraction of 42 mg/kg weight, group V was given the ethyl acetate fraction of 38 mg/kg weight, group VI was given the water fraction of 216 mg/kg weight. The data has been analyzed and after 21 days of observation it was found that the ethyl acetate fraction and robusta coffee bean extract decreased blood glucose levels the same as the decrease in blood glucose levels in the positive group test.

Abstract

Antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of starfruit leaves (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) against Staphylococcus haemolyticus. Background highlights the growing concern over antibiotic resistance, which poses significant health risks at both the individual and societal levels. This study aims to explore natural alternatives to antibiotic treatment, leveraging the traditional use of natural ingredients in medicine. This study will employ a systematic approach, including the extraction of active compounds from the leaves using a maceration method with 96% ethanol as a solvent. The study will also assess the presence of bioactive compounds such as triterpenoids, known for their pharmacological properties, including antibacterial effects. The research question focuses on determining the antibacterial efficacy of the extract and categorizing the degree of inhibition based on varying concentrations. These findings are expected to contribute to the understanding of natural remedies in combating bacterial infections and may pave the way for future drug development based on plant-derived compounds. This proposal examines the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of starfruit leaves (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) against Staphylococcus haemolyticus as a natural alternative to address antibiotic resistance. The maceration method is used to extract bioactive compounds such as triterpenoids. This study evaluated the antibacterial effectiveness at various concentrations and is expected to support the development of plant-based medicines.

Abstract

Soursop is a plant that grows in tropical areas and has long been widely used as a traditional medicine for various diseases such as cystitis, diabetes, headaches, flu, asthma, and insomnia. The use of soursop seeds is still limited because they are usually thrown away Soursop seeds have almost the same phytochemical content as the leaves, it was found that 96% ethanol extract of soursop seeds positively contained alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, steroids, terpenoids, and polyphenols. This study aims to determine the activity of ethanol extract of soursop seeds on the growth of Staphylococcus haemolyticus bacteria in vitro using the disc diffusion method with concentrations of 10%, 20 and 30%. The disc diffusion method measures the area of ​​the clear zone formed around a paper disc, used to determine antimicrobial activity. The results showed that the ethanol extract of soursop seeds (Annona muricata L.) has antibacterial activity against the growth of Staphylococcus haemolyticus bacteria at concentrations of 10%, 20%, and 30%. The average diameter of the inhibition zone for the ethanol extract of soursop seeds (Annona muricata L.) at concentrations of 10% (2,798 mm), 20% (4,392 mm), and 30% (5,741 mm), and the average for the positive control was 7.465 with a standard deviation of 2.49, categorized as very strong.

Abstract

Peningkatan produksi bawang merah setiap tahun semakin meningkat, sehingga menyebabkan kulit bawang merah menjadi limbah yang tidak di manfaatkan. Bagian kulit dari bawang merah mengandung senyawa kimia flavonoid yang berperan sebagai antioksidan. Pengujian antioksidan dilakukan dengan metode DPPH (1,1-difenil-2-picrylhydrazyl) yaitu kulit bawang merah diektraksi menggunakan etanol 96%. Kulit bawang merah akan dimanfaatkan untuk membuat sediaan emulgel yang memiliki aktivitas antioksidan dapat membantu melindungi kulit, meningkatkan hidrasi dan menjaga kelembapan pada kulit. Emulgel memiliki stabilitas yang baik, nyaman digunakan dan mampu menempel dalam waktu yang relatif lama pada kulit. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian eksperimental. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antioksidan dari emulgel dan hasil evaluasi uji mutu fisik sediaan emulgel. Sediaan emulgel dibuat 4 formulasi dengan konsentrasi ekstrak yang berbeda dan dilakukan evaluasi sediaan yaitu uji organoleptis, uji pH, uji homogenitas, uji daya sebar, uji daya lekat, uji stabilitas penyimpanan, uji cycling test, uji sentrifugasi, uji tipe emulgel dan uji viskositas. Hasil pengujian antioksidan pada emulgel kulit bawang merah konsentrasi 0,5%, 5% dan 10%, memiliki aktivitas antioksidan. Emulgel kulit bawang merah pada konsentrasi 10% memiliki aktivitas antioksidan yang sangat kuat dengan nilai IC50 sebesar 49.614 ppm. Hasil evaluasi uji mutu fisik pada variasi konsentrasi ekstrak kulit bawang merah memiliki pengaruh terhadap stabilitas sediaan emulgel. Berdasarkan hasil uji stabilitas fisik, pada formula sediaan emulgel F0 dan F1 memenuhi persyaratan parameter sediaan emulgel yang baik. Sedangkan, formula emulgel F2 dan F3 belum memenuhi persyaratan parameter sediaan emulgel karena pada pengujian cycling test dan sentrifugasi hasil emulgel tidak stabil.
