Abstract

A conducive learning environment is one of the main factors in building students' interest in learning, especially in Science subjects in elementary schools. This study aims to describe in depth the strategic role of teachers in fostering a conducive learning environment and analyze the impact on the learning interest of second-grade students in Science subjects at SRITI Al-Fateh Malaysia. This study uses a qualitative approach. Data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation are then analyzed using the interactive model developed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, which involves data reduction, data presentation, and data conclusion. The results of the study indicate that teachers play a strategic role in fostering a conducive learning environment by ensuring the classroom is neat, clean, and attractive through educational decorations and exploration corners with a Science theme. In addition, teachers use interactive learning media such as animated videos, simple experiments and giving rewards to increase students' enthusiasm, participation, and curiosity in Science lessons. Thus, the role of teachers in managing a comfortable, creative, and collaborative learning environment is effective in increasing students' interest in learning Science in second grade at SRITI Al-Fateh Malaysia.

Abstract

Pembelajaran di kelas IV SD Negeri Kemejing pada materi IPAS membutuhkan media pembelajaran karena siswa belum bisa berpikir secara abstrak sehingga pembelajaran di dalam kelas menjadi lebih bermakna. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk 1) mengembangkan video animasi IPAS berbasis critical thinking skill; 2) mengetahui kelayakan yang mencakup valid dan praktis pada video animasi IPAS berbasis critical thinking skill. Metode penelitian yang digunakan yaitu penelitian dan pengembangan dengan model ADDIE yang terdiri dari analysis, design, development, implementation, dan evaluation. Subjek pada penelitian ini siswa kelas IV SD Negeri Kemejing berjumlah 23 siswa. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik analisis data kualitatif dan analisis data kuantitif sederhana. Hasil pada penelitian ini 1) mengembangkan video animasi IPAS berbasis critical thinking skill menggunakan model ADDIE; 2) video animasi IPAS berbasis critical thinking skill layak digunakan pada pembelajaran tingkat sekolah dasar hal ini berdasarkan hasil validasi dinyatakan sangat valid dengan skor 92,3%. Hasil kepraktisan menunjukan sangat praktis dengan skor 90% pada uji terbatas dan 94,2 pada uji luas. Penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa video animasi IPAS berbasis critical thinking skill yang dikembangkan menggunakan model ADDIE layak diterapkan untuk menggali critical thinking skill siswa pembelajaran di dalam kelas.

Abstract

This study was conducted to address the low level of students’ conceptual understanding of ecosystem materials among third-grade students at SD Negeri Sindurjan. Students experienced difficulties in identifying ecosystem components, understanding food chains, and explaining relationships among living organisms due to the limited use of interactive learning media in classroom instruction. This study aimed to develop an Ecosystem Diorama Puzzle learning media and determine its validity, practicality, and effectiveness in improving students’ conceptual understanding in Science and Social Studies (IPAS) learning, particularly in Chapter III “Living Together with Nature.” The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, which consists of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. The participants were 18 third-grade students at SD Negeri Sindurjan. Data were collected through observations, interviews, expert validation sheets, response questionnaires, and learning outcome tests. The findings revealed that the developed media achieved validity scores of 95.83% from media experts and 72.91% from material experts, with an average validity score of 84.37%, categorized as very valid. The practicality test resulted in a score of 86.58%, categorized as very practical. Furthermore, the effectiveness test showed a significant improvement in students’ conceptual understanding, indicated by an N-Gain score of 0.74 in the high category. These findings demonstrate that the Ecosystem Diorama Puzzle is a valid, practical, and effective learning media for improving students’ conceptual understanding in elementary school IPAS learning.
