Abstract

Child malnutrition remains a major public health issue in Indonesia, particularly among children under five years old. In response, the government launched the Makan Bergizi Gratis (MBG) or Free Nutritious Meals program to provide balanced meals and reduce disparities in food access. However, its success depends on the integration of food availability, nutrition education, and community participation. This paper aims to describe the role of free nutritious meal programs and food availability in improving child nutrition and strengthening community food systems within the MBG framework. A descriptive qualitative approach was used through literature-based and policy analysis. Data and insights were synthesized from government reports, academic publications, and international references related to child nutrition, food systems, and public health programs from 2018–2025. The analysis highlights that the MBG program has the potential to improve children’s nutritional status when supported by local food production and consistent nutrition education. Community involvement is essential to ensure food diversity, safety, and sustainability. Strengthening partnerships among schools, health centers, and local producers can enhance program efficiency and long-term impact. The MBG initiative serves as more than a feeding program, it is a strategic approach to strengthen community nutrition. Integrating continuous education, local food empowerment, and community ownership can transform the program into a sustainable ecosystem for improving children’s health and achieving Indonesia’s vision of a healthy generation.

Abstract

AbstractThe purpose of this study is to analyze the extent to which the family has an important role in instilling and growing character values that exist in society through strengthening religion in children as a result of the Covid -19 pandemic. The research method used is a qualitative method with a religious approach. Data collection techniques using documentation techniques in the form of scientific journals and books written by competent authors. The study of data analysis used content analysis techniques. The findings of this study are the strategic position of the family, if properly prepared, will become a vital place for human development, especially in preparing human resources who have noble character qualities. On the contrary, it will be a source of disaster when religion in the family is ignored or does not get an adequate portion. This study contradicts the reinforcement theory of motivation proposed by B. F. Skinner but supports the theory of moral strengthening of Imam Al-Gazali. The conclusion of the study is that family empowerment can strengthen the practice of religion in children as a result of the  Covid-19 pandemic which is very strategic because it essentially aims to change individual behavior, knowledge, attitudes and values and skills. Abstract

Corruption damages the development of society, so proactive steps are needed to foster integrity from an early age. This study investigates the effectiveness of reinforcing the values of honesty and modesty in elementary school children as anti-corruption role models. The research employed a mixed-methods approach across five schools. Data collection included pre- and post-intervention surveys, behavioral observations, and qualitative interviews with teachers, parents, and students. The findings reveal that curriculum integration, role modeling, and experiential learning significantly enhanced students’ ethical awareness and behaviors. Honesty was reinforced through storytelling and discussions, while simplicity was promoted via community service and creative activities. Quantitative analysis indicated a 25% improvement in honesty-related behaviors and an 18% increase in attitudes favoring simplicity. Parental involvement further amplified these outcomes, creating a cohesive framework for value reinforcement. This study provides a novel contribution by integrating simplicity as an anti-corruption value, addressing materialism as a root cause of unethical behavior. The framework’s success underscores the potential of early education in shaping ethical behaviors, offering valuable insights for policymakers, educators, and researchers. Future research could explore culturally adapted strategies and technological enhancements to optimize impact.

Abstract

This study describes and analyzes the strengthening of basic literacy and memorization of the Qur'an for migrant children at the Malaysian Center for Non-Formal Education Teaching and Learning Activities to fulfill non-formal education rights and develop religious values. A qualitative approach with an ethnographic design was used, where the researcher was directly involved in the learning process to understand the students' patterns of interaction, experiences, and social dynamics. Data were collected through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews with students, teachers, and the principal, and documentation of learning activities. These data were then analyzed inductively through data reduction and presentation. The study results showed increased basic literacy skills, including recognizing Latin and Hijaiyah letters, reading, and memorization skills, particularly of Surah Al-'Ashr, using the talaqqi and takrir methods. Reading activities in the context of Islamic education have deep spiritual meaning because they are in harmony. The novelty of this research lies in integrating literacy and memorization into the non-formal education of migrant children, a topic that has not been widely studied. The findings confirm the critical role of the Malaysian Center for Non-Formal Education Teaching and Learning Activities as an alternative institution that supports academic development while shaping students' character and Islamic identity, especially for children who do not receive formal education abroad. In practical terms, the results of this study can guide non-formal educators in designing compelling reading and memorization programs, enabling migrant children to develop their academic abilities and spiritual values optimally.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Development of the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5) Based on the Lilian Katz Model in Improving School Readiness for Children Aged 5-6 Years. The method used was a quasi-experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design , involving 30 children as the experimental group and 15 children as the control group. The experimental group received project-based learning with the Lilian Katz model, while the control group used conventional methods. The research instrument was a child development assessment questionnaire covering aspects of cognition and general knowledge, language, social-emotional, physical motor skills, and learning approaches. Data were analyzed using the N-Gain Score test to measure the increase in school readiness. The results showed that the experimental group experienced a more significant increase than the control group, the experimental group with an average N-Gain of 0.76 (high category) while the control group was 0.63 (moderate category). These findings indicate that project-based learning with the Lilian Katz model involving exploration, collaboration, and reflection is more effective in preparing children holistically to enter elementary education. In conclusion, the Lilian Katz Model in P5 can be an innovative and effective learning strategy to improve early childhood school readiness. This study recommends the implementation of a project-based approach in the PAUD curriculum to support optimal child development.

Abstract

Background : The problem of underweight in toddlers remains a serious challenge because it impacts the growth, development, and endurance of children. Underweight can be defined as a body weight that is low due to malnutrition (Nisa, 2024). Based on WHO data (2022), there are 45 million children (6.8%) in the world experiencing underweight, while in Indonesia the prevalence reaches 17.1% (SSGI, 2022; Mulyani, 2024). In Bangun Rejo Village, Kutai Kartanegara, 13 toddlers were recorded below the KMS red line. The lack of parental knowledge about nutrition is the main cause, so the Sobat Gizi 1 and Sobat Gizi 2 programs were developed as an educational effort to increase understanding of balanced nutrition to reduce malnutrition rates in toddlers. Objective : The SOBAT GIZI program aims to enhance the knowledge, understanding, and skills of parents especially mothers with toddlers in applying proper parenting and feeding practices as a preventive and corrective measure against child malnutrition. Additionally, this program seeks to improve the nutritional status of toddlers by optimizing nutrition improvement efforts particularly in addressing the high prevalence of underweight cases in Dusun Bangun Rejo I, Bangun Rejo Village. Research Methods/ Implementation Methods : This program employed a participatory educational approach that combined nutrition counseling, interactive discussions, and hands-on activities to enhance mothers’ knowledge, attitudes, and skills in child feeding and nutrition. The implementation was carried out through collaboration among professional nutritionists, local health cadres, and village officials. Activities were conducted through a series of structured sessions under the Sobat Gizi component which focused on improving mothers’ understanding of parenting practices, balanced nutrition, and appropriate feeding behaviors through lectures, group discussions, and pre- and posttest assessments to evaluate knowledge improvement. Results : The Sobat Gizi 1 and 2 programs significantly improved mothers’ knowledge on child nutrition and parenting. In Sobat Gizi 1, scores rose from 75.5 to 95.5 (↑26.49%), with a Wilcoxon test result of Z = -3.573; p = 0.000. Likewise, Sobat Gizi 2, integrated with the Ceria Masak session, showed a significant increase (Z = -3.079; p = 0.002), with 13 participants improving and 2 remaining unchanged. Overall, both programs effectively enhanced knowledge by 26–27%, proving that interactive education and practical sessions strengthen nutritional awareness and promote positive behavioral change among mothers at Posyandu Menuju Sehat, Bangun Rejo Village

Abstract

Children of migrant workers often face limited access to basic services and health education, which can negatively affect their personal hygiene practices. This community engagement initiative aimed to enhance self-efficacy and improve hygiene knowledge and behaviors among migrant children through simple, enjoyable, and contextually relevant approaches. The program was implemented at Sanggar Belajar Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia, in July 2025, involving a total sample of 30 children aged 7-13 years. The intervention combined interactive lectures, demonstrations of the seven-step of proper handwashing, or what is commonly known as CTPS or Cuci Tangan Pakai Sabun, and toothbrushing techniques, as through a modified educational board game based on Snakes and Ladders. Monitoring was conducted descriptively through baseline and final observations, along with informal oral questioning (without formal questionnaires) to assess changes in knowledge, attitudes, participation, and signs of self-efficacy. The results indicated meaningful practical improvements: over 80% of participants could identify 3-5 correct hygiene practices; children showed increased confidence in demonstrating the seven CTPS steps and expressed commitment to brushing their teeth at least twice daily; and high levels of active participation were observed (≥25 children engaged in discussions, Q&A, and games until the end of the session). The program was well received by both participants and facilitators, suggesting that a combination of brief lectures, simulation, and gamification is practically effective for promoting hygiene in migrant community contexts Keywords: Personal Hygiene, Migrant Children, Indonesia, Self-Efficacy, Malaysia

Abstract

Many children of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) are undocumented in Malaysia, causing difficulties in various access areas, one of which is in the education sector. Non-formal education dominates PMI children, influencing children's literacy knowledge, which could be more optimal and impact their weak national character. This study includes empowerment by the Indonesian Young Spirit Foundation (SMI) in the education sector targeting PMI children, which was carried out in Sanggar Belajar (SB) Hulu Kelang and Hulu Langat, Malaysia. The platform for this empowerment is in the form of educational learning activities in the form of word reading and bingo games, which are collaborated with the use of regional songs in gymnastics activities, which are very important to be realized in the context of internalizing literacy knowledge in order to strengthen national character in fulfilling educational rights and strengthening the character of PMI children in Malaysia. It will be carried out from 14 to 21 July 2023. This empowerment uses descriptive qualitative research methods and a Contextual Teaching Learning (CTL) approach in the implementation process. PMI children will receive many benefits from the empowerment carried out by the SMI Foundation, including increased self-confidence in reading aloud, trained verbal skills, positive interactions, an atmosphere of cooperation, improved children's motor skills, and children feel the spirit of cultural values they have learned. The empowerment of this program is hoped to provide sustainable benefits for PMI children and teachers.

Abstract

This community service activity explores how education through traditional songs and games can help Indonesian diaspora children in Malaysia strengthen their cultural identity. With globalization threatening local identities, diaspora children often struggle to balance their home culture with their new environment. Through observations and interviews with 12 children from grade 5 to junior high school at Sanggar Bimbingan At-Tanzil, this study found that integrating arts and culture into the learning process can deepen children's connection to their heritage. The traditional song "Soleram" and the game "Ampar-ampar Pisang" effectively taught cultural values and increased pride in Indonesian identity. This study emphasizes the importance of culture-based education in preserving the identity of marginalized children in a foreign country.
