Abstract

Montgomery Watt and Patricia Crone are two figures who are concerned to examine the emergence of Islam in Mecca, whether the trigger is socio-economic, trade, or socio-political, power. Watt states that Mecca from the beginning, which was already a center of pilgrimage, in the next process became an important trading center, giving birth to master traders. In the process, these conditions gave rise to Islam there. Crone, on the other hand, says it was Arab nationalism that determined the development of Islam in Mecca and the Arabian peninsula. This research will re-examine the two theses by trying to reveal through the approach of the Qur'anic texts, because according to the author, the revelation of the Qur'anic text cannot be separated from the situation that occurred at that time. This research is librabry research with documentation research techniques. Watt's thesis is closer to the truth that it was the trade factor that triggered the emergence of Islam. Crone's opinion is not in accordance with the text of the Qur'an. In Mecca there is no text that talks about political power, because Islam is still weak with few followers. Texts related to power only appeared after the hijrah, where it was needed to protect and defend the state of Medina from outside attacks, or even to expand power because of welfare needs, where financial resources were not found in Medina.

Abstract

The study of text is of paramount importance for the comprehension of scientific disciplines. The principal objective of interdisciplinary text studies is to gain insights into texts from a cross-disciplinary perspective. The analysis of structure and discourse enables the exploration of analytical tools and concepts pertinent to both fields, rendering them applicable to interdisciplinary texts. This research employs qualitative methods and a library approach, utilising structure and discourse analysis. The method of data presentation is both descriptive and analytical. This approach also permits the provision of a comprehensive and perspicacious overview, thereby facilitating a more profound comprehension of the information by the intended audience. The objective of this study is to identify and address shortcomings in the analysis of texts, and to present a range of approaches to this analysis. The analysis of discourse and structure are techniques that can be employed to analyse a range of phenomena, including scientific, social and other phenomena. The efficacy of these techniques is contingent upon the language and text used. The text structure can be elucidated implicitly, textually, or contextually, depending on the requirements of each scientific discipline. The results demonstrate that structure can be a beneficial tool for interdisciplinary text studies and that there is value in paying attention to structural systems, cohesion, and applying syntactic, semantic, and pragmatic study. Additionally, analysing texts about discursive practices and other relevant knowledge can also benefit from discourse analysis.

Abstract

This study examines the role of negative sentiment words in news media coverage of suicide and related incidents through analysis of 1,515 news articles published between 2019 and 2024. Using advanced text mining techniques and sentiment analysis, we investigated patterns in emotional language use and their impact on public discourse. The research revealed frequent usage of negative sentiment words such as "crisis" (256 occurrences), "despair" (214 occurrences), and "death" (189 occurrences), which significantly influenced the emotional framing of these sensitive topics. Statistical analysis showed strong correlations between negative sentiment words and mental health-related terms (correlation value 0.75), indicating consistent patterns in media narrative construction. Temporal analysis identified a notable increase in negative sentiment during the COVID-19 pandemic (2020-2021), followed by a shift toward more solution-focused coverage in 2022-2024. The findings suggest that while negative sentiment words are inherent in covering suicide-related topics, their use can be balanced with solution-oriented language to promote more responsible reporting. This research contributes to understanding how emotional language shapes public discourse on mental health crises and provides insights for developing more effective guidelines for responsible journalism.

Abstract

Depression is a frequent and dangerous medical disorder that has an unhealthy effect on how a person feels, thinks, and acts. Depression is also quite prevalent. Early detection and treatment of depression may avoid painful and perhaps life-threatening symptoms. An imbalance in the data creates several challenges. Consequently, the majority learners will have biases against the class that constitutes the majority and, in extreme situations, may completely dismiss the class that constitutes the minority. For decades, class disparity research has employed traditional machine learning methods. In addressing the challenge of imbalanced data in depression detection, the study aims to balance class distribution using a hybrid approach bidirectional long short-term memory (BI-LSTM) along with synthetic minority over-sampling and Tomek links and synthetic minority over-sampling and edited nearest neighbors’ techniques. This investigation presents a new approach that combines synthetic minority oversampling technique with the Kalman filter to provide an innovative extension. The Kalman-synthetic minority oversampling technique (KSMOTE) approach filters out noisy samples in the final dataset, which consists of both the original data and the artificially created samples by SMOTE. The result was greater accuracy with the BI-LSTM classification scheme compared to the other standard methods for finding depression in both unbalanced and balanced data.
