Abstract

Every culture is the result of a long process and represents the expression of the nation's noble values, rich with meaning and a perspective on the lives of its people. The lack of scientific research on culture in Indonesia can lead to its lack of recognition and even its gradual disappearance. This study explores the Turun di Way procession in the Begawi traditional ceremony of Lampung in Tiyuh Panaragan, which is rich in social and philosophical values. The procession functions not only as a ritual of purification before the awarding of traditional titles but also carries deep symbolic meanings, such as self-control and respect for ancestors. The research employed a qualitative method with in-depth interviews and observation. The findings reveal that Turun di Way embodies philosophical values such as Piil-Pusanggiri, Juluk-Adok, Nemui-Nyimah, Nengah-Nyappur, and Sakai Sambayan, which serve as moral guidance for the Lampung Pepadun community. Furthermore, the social values reflected in this tradition emphasize equality, solidarity, and mutual cooperation. Thus, the Begawi ceremony is not only a means of preserving cultural heritage but also strengthens the identity and character of Lampung society amidst the challenges of modernization.

Abstract

The Lampung language and literature are an important part of the cultural identity of the Lampung people, serving as a means of communication, expression, and transmission of noble values. This study aims to identify innovative strategies based on local culture that can foster interest in the Lampung language and literature among the younger generation. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with subjects consisting of teachers, students, and university students, and data collection through interviews, observation, and documentation, which is then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The results of the study show that the main strategies include: (1) integration of cultural values through folk tales and traditional arts activities, (2) contextual learning that links language to everyday situations and traditional activities, and (3) the use of digital technology and social media as modern and interactive learning media. This innovative learning model is expected to improve literacy, creativity, and students' love for Lampung's cultural heritage, so that the preservation of regional languages and literature can be realized sustainably. This study provides theoretical contributions to the development of local culture-based learning and practical benefits for educators in designing creative, relevant, and interesting learning media for the younger generation.

Abstract

One of the elements that enriches Lampung's culture is literary works conveyed orally. Literature is an inseparable element of social life. Its existence reflects the creativity and work of a community. Based on its method of delivery, literature can be divided into two types: oral literature and written literature. This study examines the oral literature Sesikun Bumbang Aji Appeng from the Lampung Timur community by applying the semiotic theory developed by Ferdinand de Saussure, which focuses on the interaction between the signifier and the signified. The purpose of this research is to identify the symbolic meanings and cultural values embedded in the oral literary work. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method with an interpretative approach to analyze the meanings of linguistic signs within the cultural context of the Lampung people. The analysis reveals that each signifier in Sesikun corresponds to a signified that reflects traditional and social values, such as respect for social boundaries symbolized by the selendang (shawl), a spirit of togetherness, courage, openness, and the importance of maintaining relationships and communication. Therefore, Sesikun Bumbang Aji Appeng functions not only as a form of oral literature but also as a cultural sign system that embodies the identity, morality, and life philosophy of the Lampung Timur community.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of social criticism found in the novel Si Putih by Tere Liye by examining their relation to the author’s background, the social realities of society, and readers’ responses. This research is grounded in the theory of literary sociology, which emphasizes that literary works reflect social realities creatively expressed through the author’s experiences and imagination. The study employs a descriptive qualitative method with a sociological approach to literature. Data were collected through an intensive reading of the novel, analysis of the author’s social background, and interpretation of the social meanings embedded in the narrative. The findings reveal that Si Putih contains various forms of social criticism, including critiques of social inequality, humanity, and moral disparity in society. These criticisms are conveyed through the depiction of character conflicts, settings, and dialogues that hold reflective meaning. The novelty of this research lies in its comprehensive analysis that connects the intrinsic elements of the novel with the author’s social dimension and readers’ perspectives, thereby reinforcing the understanding that literature is not merely an aesthetic product but also a medium of social communication that fosters awareness and critical sensitivity toward societal realities.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the forms and functions of comparative figurative language used in Boy Candra’s novel Kisah yang Pilu untuk Kita yang Ragu (A Sorrowful Story for Our Doubt). The focus of this research is to reveal how comparative figurative language strengthens emotional expression, enhances linguistic beauty, and builds aesthetic meaning in modern literary works. This study employs a qualitative approach using content analysis combined with a phenomenological perspective. Data were collected through intensive reading and note-taking of quotations containing comparative figurative language within the novel’s text. The results show that there are seven types of comparative figurative language found in the novel, namely simile, metaphor, personification, antithesis, tautology, and anticipation, with a total of 19 data instances. The most dominant types are simile, metaphor, and personification, which are used to depict the characters’ emotional states and to create poetic beauty in the narrative. Meanwhile, figures such as antithesis, tautology, and anticipation serve to reinforce meaning and provide stylistic variation in the author’s expression. The novelty of this research lies in combining stylistic analysis with a phenomenological approach to uncover the emotional and psychological meanings behind the use of comparative figurative language in contemporary Indonesian popular fiction.

Abstract

Speech act is a linguistic action used by someone to convey a message. The first and most influential environment in a social learning process is the family environment, especially parents through interpersonal communication. Our research aims to identify and analyze the forms of directive speech acts commonly used by children towards parents in the context of family communication in Lampung language in Kesugihan Baru Village, Liwa, West Lampung. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods through observation and interviews. In this study, we found four types of directive speech acts used by children: requests, orders, prohibitions, and advice. These utterances appear in various everyday situations and are influenced by emotional closeness and the context of interaction. The results of the study show that children are able to use language pragmatically to express their desires and influence their parents' actions effectively. This phenomenon is interesting to study, especially since there is still very little research on how children use Lampung regional language to influence their parents' actions from a pragmatic perspective.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms and types of spelling and punctuation errors found in the academic papers of students in the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program at the University of Lampung. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach with documentation as the data collection method. The data consisted of spelling and punctuation errors identified in 20 first-semester students’ papers during the 2024/2025 academic year. The findings revealed 125 errors, consisting of errors in the use of capital letters (30.4%), prepositions “di” and “ke” (21.6%), compound word writing (9.6%), commas (23.2%), and periods and quotation marks (15.2%). The most frequent errors were in the use of capital letters and commas. These mistakes occurred mainly due to students’ lack of understanding of the Pedoman Umum Ejaan Bahasa Indonesia (PUEBI), the influence of informal writing habits, and limited experience in editing academic texts. The results of this study are expected to serve as evaluation material for improving students’ academic writing skills, particularly in mastering the correct use of spelling and punctuation in higher education contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Integrated Service Unit Information System (SIMADU) in improving the quality of public services at the Central Kalimantan Provincial BPMP. The approach used is qualitative with a field study method to assess the effectiveness of SIMADU based on five dimensions of service quality within the SERVQUAL framework. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with the ULT Coordinator, statistical analysis of SIMADU data for the period 2018–2025, results of the Community Satisfaction Survey, and a review of operational standard documents. The analysis was conducted using a qualitative descriptive method with triangulation of sources. The results of the study show that SIMADU has proven to be very effective, with a service completion rate of 100% of a total of 1,956 requests and a Community Satisfaction Index of 92.74% in the “Very Good” category. This system provides 24-hour digital services with adaptive multi-channel access, covering all 14 districts/cities, where 63.3% of users are teachers. The novelty of the research lies in the comprehensive evaluation of e-government-based information systems at the provincial level using the SERVQUAL approach over a seven-year period (2018–2025), which resulted in a hybrid strategy model (digital and face-to-face) as a form of inclusive digital transformation that has the potential to be replicated by other education quality assurance institutions in Indonesia.

Abstract

Culture is a complex fact, possessing specific characteristics to some extent, yet also possessing universal qualities. Through the creativity and imagination of writers, culture is then transformed into literary works of great value and depth. This study aims to identify and analyze the values of Piil Pesenggiri reflected in Legenda Sumur Putri by Yuliadi M.R., and explain its relevance as a form of local wisdom of the Lampung people. This study also attempts to show how the legend can be utilized in learning the Lampung language and culture. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a content analysis approach, which focuses on the meaning of cultural values in literary texts. The results of the analysis show that Legenda Sumur Putri contains the main values of Piil Pesenggiri, namely Juluk-Adok (maintaining dignity and self-respect), Nemui-Nyimah (hospitality and openness towards guests), Nengah-Nyappur (mingling harmoniously), Sakai-Sambaian (mutual cooperation and solidarity), and additional values in the form of sincerity and determination. These values reflect the identity, social ethics, and spirituality of the Lampung people. This study confirms that folk legends can function as a means of cultural preservation, character formation, and contextual open material in Lampung language learning.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the function and implementation of Digital Lampung Script as a learning medium in the Merdeka Curriculum, which emphasizes flexible, contextual, and competency-oriented learning. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of the study show that the use of digital media such as Android-based applications and augmented reality (AR) effectively increases students' interest, motivation, and learning outcomes in learning Lampung script. Digital Lampung Script is not only a means of preserving local culture, but also supports the objectives of the Merdeka Curriculum in encouraging creativity, independence, and technology-based learning. In addition, this digital media is able to overcome the limitations of teaching staff and expand access to learning to remote areas. The study also revealed that the development of Digital Lampung Script needs to consider aspects of ease of use, interactivity, and user engagement in order to be used effectively in the learning process. Thus, Digital Lampung Script plays an important role as a bridge between tradition and advances in educational technology, as well as a strategy for preserving Lampung's cultural heritage in the digital age in an adaptive and sustainable manner.
