Buddhist meditation is a means to self-examination and spiritual practices which mostly misunderstood both by Buddhist and non-Buddhist alike! Meditation is a thought of as a form of self-denial and escape from the harsh reality of life. It is not difficult to understand as people tend to associate the word of meditation to a man/women sitting cross legged, doing nothing, which suggest laziness and indifference toward life’s affairs. Contrary to the above misconception, Buddhist meditation is actually a way to attain spiritual prosperity and wisdom. The original term for Buddhist meditation is Bhavana, which means mental development. It consists of two modes of meditation, namely samatha/Samadhi, to attain mental quiescence, and vipassana/vipasyana, to achieve penetrative insight. Buddhist meditation is a powerful spiritual exercise to attain mental transformation and peace of mind. By utilizing the faculty of will power, concentration and sharp awareness, Buddhist meditation enabled the practitioners to realized tranquility, happiness and wisdom to the real nature of everything.

Liturgical renewal has been the driving force of the renewal of the entire life of the Catholic Church of the Second Vatican Council. After 50 years of the Council, the question of its implementation remains crucial and relevant. How the “letter and spirit†of the Council have been translated and manifested into a renewed life of different ecclesial communities within the Catholic Church up to now? This study will address this question of implementation. A modest research on the liturgical renewal guided by important insights of the Sacrosanctum Concilium will be done while taking into account carefully an anniversary publication on 50 years Vatican II entitled Mozaik Gereja katolik Indonesia – 50 years After Vatican II (2013) by the Pontifical Faculty of Wedabhakti, Yogyakarta. This publication presents an insider-reflection of the dioceses in Indonesia precisely on the implementation of the call of renewal of the Second Vatican Council. Subsequently, some liturgical concern will be addressed to promote a possible further renewal.

A prophet and his or her prophecy are theologically inseparable as well as in view of God’s plan of salvation revealed through the life of prophets in history. Without the prophets and their prophecy, human history will remain as nomenclature of events rather than a history of salvation. It will remain merely chronos rather than kairos. How do we figure out a true prophet of God than a false one? How do we find a prophet in our world today, a truly servant of God who spoke God’s justice and righteousness, even in front of a threatening forces that prefer injustice and unrighteousness?

Christianity has taken the Hebrew Bible as part of its scriptures. This, unavoidably, creates a long time discussion with regard to the relationship between the Old and the New Testament. One of the most popular understanding is to consider the New Testament as the fulfillment of what has been proclaimed in the Old Testament. The teaching of the Church, delivered through various documents, comfirms this popular notion, though not always explicit. However, a document from the Pontifical Biblical Commission published in 2002, shows a particular nuance. This article sought to read it carefully and to draw some practical implications.

Is there any common points between the prophetic movement and rationality? There are three common things. First, prophetic movement and rationality reflect on life context. Secondly, they are transformative movements. Third, they lead to the developing of civilization that upholds the values of truth, justice and peace in the midst of the challenges of disintegration of nation and destruction of nature. In other words, they are an ethical movement. In the context of globalization characterized by life orientation on quantitative things, main role of prophecy and rationality is to restore the lives toward a wider horizon. They become relevant in our age when they actualize their role in solving humanitarian issues and promoting human civilization. For that prophetic movement requires a strong rational basis for networking and synergistic cooperation in developing a civilization of more qualified.
