Abstract

Meister Eckhart is a German philosopher, theologian, and mystician of the 13th - 14th century, who has various important perspectives on the philosophical-theological (Human Being-God), spiritual and of course mystical concerning the unity of the soul with God through self-detachment. For Eckhart, Being is identical with God Himself as the only reality. All things outside God are nothingness. This figure was influential in his day, though not free from some excesses of his views that are considered controversial and make his teaching labeled as heresy by the authority of the Church. Nevertheless, his various philosophical-theological, and spiritual insights concerning the concept of Deity, especially in the mystical level, are very relevant to be experienced both in the context of theological studies and the development of spiritual life.

Abstract

Jacques Dupuis understands, in his Trinitarian Christological approach, that every person within his/her historical context, including the context of his/her religious tradition, due to the work of the Holy Spirit, takes part in the salvific work of God which manifests through His Word, which became man in the person of Jesus. Every person who lives religiously within the context of his/her tradition can genuinely acquire supernatural faith as a response to Gods self-manifestation. Moreover, a Trinitarian Christology perspective understands Christocentrism-theocentrism and Christocentrism-regnocentrism not as contradictory, but as complementary. Thus, a Trinitarian Christology perspective understands Christians and believers of other religions as common members of the Kingdom of God. Christians and other religious followers, in their own religious traditions, are all invited to orient their whole lives based on their faith in God. All are invited to establish the Kingdom of God on earth. Such is the vocation of Christians, that is to enter and to participate in the salvific dynamic of the Trinitarian God, who shares their life with others and offers happiness to the whole human race.

Abstract

Being left by Saint Paul for some months, there was seemingly a kind of disputes among the first Christians in Corinth about some moral and pastoral matters. As a positive response to such a situation, Saint Paul sent them a special letter. In that well-known letter, Saint Paul tried to expose his personal teaching about some aspects of Christian belief and Christian way of life.The teaching of Saint Paul, as far as it is formulated in his first letter to the Corinthians chapter 7, was concerned among other things about celibate life as well as about married life, about divorce, about mixed married, and about the widows. The apostle underlined the dignity of celibate life as well as the dignity of married life. He demanded all Christian couples to be faithful, one to each other. He recommended celibate life for the young Christian who were ready to live just only for the Kingdom of God.The Catholic Church has faithfully interpreted and implemented the teaching of Saint Paul, as well as the teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ, since the second century up to this century. Many catholic bishops, for example, have given the nihil obstat to the parish priest throughout the world, especially in Asia and Africa, to implement the so-called privilegium paulinum, even though they have also consistently taught that matrimony should be always indissoluble.

Abstract

"He who is unable to reinterpret his past may also be incapable of projecting concretely his interest in emancipation" (Paul Ricoeur). In understanding a theologizing process, our attention should not focus on reality alone, but also on the means or tools to understand that reality. This paper intends to explain the means or tools of the theologizing process according to Ricoeur that is used to understand a reality. As a process, it shall not be only about method, but also methodology, namely a process of thinking, the brought interest and the achieved value premises. Its guiding question is Ricoeurs theologizing methodology called hermeneutics. Through dialogue with many partners, Ricoeur found a methodology of reality-reading, first affirmative then critical. This is an affirmative-critical gesture. However, this methodology is inadequate to do reading on an extreme context. It takes effort to reverse Ricoeur's methodology by first prioritizing the critical against the reality distortion, and only then be affirmative to uncover hope of a good and just life. Finally, the theologizing process requires a dialectical methodology of reading a reality, between critical-affirmative and affirmative-critical gestures. Context at hand shall determine what goes first.

Abstract

The 50th anniversary of The Second Vatican Council opening is an important moment to research the Catolic followers reception of Church teaching in The Second Vatican Councils documents. Focus of this research is the Church reception for Pastoral Constitution of Gaudium et Spes. The pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World Gaudium et Spes is the longest and the most complex document produced by the Second Vatican Council. This document articulates the relationship between the church and the world. The Church reception for Gaudium et Spes can be detected from three points: the Church effort to teach, the Church understanding to this substance document, and various Church movement that implement Gaudium et Spes items teaching at the centre world.

Abstract

To govern his diocese, a diocesan Bishop exercises the threefold power of governance, namely legislative, executive and judicial power. As regards the executive power he can exercise personally or through another person. Administrative power becomes the area for the exercise of the executive power, including in the administration of temporal goods of the diocese and of other public juridical persons subject to him. In performing a good administration of the temporal goods of the Church, a diocesan Bishop needs to comply with pertinent canonical norms as well as to collaborate with respective council or persons concerned to avoid the abuse of power or misuse of temporal goods. The matter in question is discussed in the view of canonical analysis. This research aims at obtaining canonical assessments to the authority of diocesan Bishop in administering Churchs properties according to their proper purposes.

Abstract

Fast development in science and technology provides human beings an advancement in all sectors, especially in industrial sector, health, and economics and social. The advancement also happens in information technology, resulting practicality in communicating with others without being limitted by distance and time. In this kind of situation, Church, as the part that cannot be seperated from the world, is also called to be involved in the information technology advancement and through it proclaim its mission: to proclaim Gods Kingdom to all people. The result of the research shows that communication formed in Katolistitas sets readers free from the darkness of not having enough understanding about faith into their independence: the truth in life that comes from Jesus Christ, The Way, The Truth, and The Life. This research aims to gather diversity into the unity that brings people to the true fraternity. Forms a union that is called communicatio and builds communio. This commmunio finally unites them in Katolisitas community and communio of Gods Kingdom is formed. Communication is also enhanced as the fruit of the Holy Spirit in the Church.

Abstract

The bread of life is the special theme in the Gospel of John. Even, among the Gospels, it is only the Gospel of John that gives this theme. Nowadays, there are many questions about the meaning of bread of life. Many scholars said that the bread of life has a connection with the eucharist. But, is there only one meaning of the bread of life? John Chrysostom dedicated his 44th homily to the 47th homily as the homily which tells about the bread of life. John Chrysostom offered another interpretation of the bread of life. For him, the bread of life tells about the Jesus himself facing the teaching of Arius (Arianism) that spreads in his service territory. The bread of life becomes an apology of the Nicean faith facing the Arianism. The emphasis is that the bread of life is the Son itself who has same nature (homo-ousios) with the Father. The faith of the Son guides all mankind to the ressurection and the everlasting life.

Abstract

This paper aims to uncover the full extent of how the academic materials and learning models as employed by Prof. Dr. Ignatius Suharyo during his time as an active academic and practitioner of biblical hermeneutics or scriptural interpretation reflected his finest efforts to reconcile the two spheres of academia and the pastoral in regards to scriptural interpretations. Based upon research, the materials and academic models of Prof. Dr. Ignatius Suharyo, his readings and interpretations were found to be contributions of no small merit to the discipline. In turn, his contribution spearheaded various opportunities for the growth of scripture reading, no longer is the acadamically confined, but will therewith be scrutinized as an elaborate art of reading and interpretation under a new light.

Abstract

Isu ekologis kini menjadi krusial disikapi secara teologis dan praktis. Isu ini tidak terpisah dari tantangan berupa "kesatuan bahaya besar" (catastrophic convergence): kemiskinan, ketidakadilan dan kekerasan yang merajalela. Persoalan ekologis tidak terpisah dari paradigma filosofis dan teologis tertentu berupa antroposentrisme absolut dan melahirkan gagasan ekspansif melalui penguasan atas alam bahkan atas manusia lain. Lahir pula "imperialisme global" (globalized imperialism) dan "manusia ekonomi" (homo oeconomicus) yang kata kuncinya adalah ketidakadilan. Di tengah masifnya kerusakan ekologi yang memiskinkan itu terdapat cerita yang berbeda tentang kemampuan masyarakat lokal mempertahankan kelestarian alam. Masyarakat Desa Delang bersehati "Mempertahankan Hutan Delang dari Ekspansi Sawit". Dari kacamata teologis, masyarakat Delang memahami bahwa alam (hutan) bukan sekadar benda yang bernilai ekonomis, melainkan "rumah" bagi Yang Ilahi. Yang Ilahi bersurga di bukit-bukit yang rimbun dengan pepohonan. Di sinilah teologi kontekstual mempertimbangkan penghayatan religiositas lokal untuk membantu kita menemukan kembali misi yang kontekstual, yaitu misi yang mempertimbangkan pandangan dunia primal (baca: agama kosmik), yang nilai utamanya bersahabat dengan alam.
