Abstract

Abstraktion Diese Untersuchung behandelt sich über Liebes Thema an dem lyrisches Lied  von Eisblume. Sie hat das Ziel, um das Liebes thema zu analysieren. Die Daten werden durch das Lied von Eisblume bekommt. Die Schreiberin  benutzt eine descriptive Methode. Als die theoretische Grundlage benutzt die Schreiberin Theorie von Wellek & Warren, Richards und Perrine. Der Schluβ dieser Untersuchung wird gesogen, dass es sechs liebe Themen in lyrisches lied von Eisblume gibt. Sie sind Loyalitäd, die währe Liebe,  Einsamkeit, Verlust, Sehnsucht, und Verliebt. Stichwörter: Liebes Thema, lyrisches Lied,  Eisblume.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Objectives to be achhievd in this study areL1) how the relationship between the author and this work in the novel “Laskar Pelangi”.(2) describe aspects of the sociology of literature in the novel Laskar Pelangi the terms of character and characterization, social status, the behavior of the characters, as well as the events that occurred. This study is a review of sociology of literature using qualitative method. This research techniques include engineering data colletion, data conclusion, source of research data as the main data is the novel “Laskar Pelangi” and several books related to literature and other sources. The results of these studies show that the aspect of sociology in the novel Laskar Pelangi is a reality that occurs in the Malay society oppressed Belitong proverty but they remain determinend to pursue the dream. This novel also tells the story of how friendship can be interwoven between the characters in the novel.   Keywords: sociology of literature, aqualitative, novel Laskar Pelangi

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe study entitled “Gender in English and Sangir Language (A Contrastive Analysis)” is an attempt to identify, analyze, describe and contrast English and Sangir Language which focuses on gender. The writer analyzed the gender based on the concept of Trudgill (1987), and contrasted by using Lado’s theory (1957). The aims of this study are to describe the relationship between gender and language which focuses on vocabulary and to find out the differences between the two languages. The results of this research show that English language has six categories of gender, namely: occupations, nouns, term of address, adjectives, personal pronouns and the name of animals in the form of masculine, feminine and neutral. Sangir language has seven categories of gender, namely: term of address, adjectives, nouns, verb, occupations, name of animals and personal pronouns in the form of masculine, feminine, and neutral. The differences of both languages can be seen in Sangir language which has gender-related verbs, but English does not have any. Key words: Ethnolinguistic, Gender, Contrastive Analysis, English, Sangir Language.

Abstract

Literature and society are like two sides of a coin, they cannot be separated. Through literature, we could see how the author depicts the society and their social circumstances. Literature is a representation of life. It reflects the life itself, or, in other words, it is life, which literature imitates or mirrors; and we can say that the subject matter of literature is the manifold experiences of human beings and society (Wellek and Warren 1949:89). Pride and Prejudice is one of Jane Austen’s masterpieces. It is a story about relationship, life and love. Jane Austen is very popular with her intelligent and meticulous in describing the detail about British community’s social life, especially in the early nineteenth century. How eminently Jane Austen creates a masterpiece such as Pride and Prejudice — which simultaneously makes it a portrait and a wonderful portrayal of the life of the early opportunists’ society in the early nineteenth century — is something that is very interesting to be explored. The objectives of this research are: (1) to identify, analyze and describe how Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice depicts the social life and circumstances of British society in the early nineteenth century; and (2) to identify, analyze and describe how is the social stratification depicted in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. To analyze this novel, the writer uses sociological approach, mimetic theory from Aristotle, the theory of relation between sociology and literature from Wellek and Warren, and social stratification theory from Max Weber. Pride and Prejudice intelligently and realistically depicts the British social life in the early nineteenth century. The depictions are through correspondence as medium of communication and ballroom dance party as medium of socialization. Furthermore, through theme of the story, Austen also depicts the awful social reality at that time on how society assumes marriage as the highest aspiration a woman could achieve, value of marriage and the requirement about what values should a woman held. Social stratification in British society is also depicted in Pride and Prejudice. Social stratification theory by Max Weber states that status, class and power are required and must be fulfilled to attain a certain position in social dimension. Through some characters in Pride and Prejudice, we could see the implementation of this theory.     Keywords: pride and prejudice, sociological approach, social stratification, theory of relation

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is entitled “Analisis Struktur Kalimat dalam Jurnal The Popular Culture Studies Journal Volume 1”. It is a research which focuses on syntactic analysis, particularly the sentence structure analysis. In this analysis, the researcher attempts to analyse the structure of the sentences found in the journal by looking at the functions and categories of each sentence’s constituents. The data were collected in one of the articles in “The Popular Culture Studies Journal” entitled “When the Abyss Looks Back: Treatments of Human Trafficking in Superhero Comic Books”. In identifying, classifying and analyzing the data, the researcher uses the theory of Aarts & Aarts (1982). The results of this research show that there are three types of sentence used in the article, namely simple, complex and compound sentences. The article consists of 97 simple sentences, 77 complex sentences, and 21 compound sentences. Furthermore, each type of sentence is divided into several subtypes. The simple sentences are divided into those which contain clauses and those which do not. The complex sentences are divided based on the functions realized by the subordinate clauses. There are direct object clauses, subject attribute clause, object attribute clauses, predicator complement clauses and adverb clauses. There are no complex sentences which contain subject clause, indirect object clause, benefactive object clause. The compound sentences are divided into the combination of simple sentences, the combination of simple and complex sentences, and the combination of complex sentences. The results also show that every sentence contains, at least, one subject and one predicate. Some sentences also contain adverbs.  This research is expected to give contributions in the development of linguistic studies, particularly in syntactic analysis. This scientific paper contains about the development of the Minahasan press in the Netherlands’ colonial rule in the time of Dutch East Indies (of Indonesia). Explain about the origin of the press in Minahasa land when the newspaper of Tjahaja Sijang published since year 1869, about the development of the Minahasan press in Dutch East Indies, explain about develompment of the Minahasan press tandem with the national movement for freedom and for the independence of the Indonesia. Abstract

ABSTRACT Language has a crucial role in a human life’s communication since it functions as a media tool to make interaction. One way to establish a meaningful conversation in society is by applying politeness. Behaving politely does not merely depend on how good a member in a society is, but also how to behave politely in daily conversation. This study is about politeness strategies used by the main character in "V for Vendetta" movie. This study used a descriptive method specifically using document analysis. The writer analyzed the utterances of V as the main character taken from the script of V for Vendetta movie and the writer also adopted politeness strategy’s theory proposed by Leech (1983). The finding show that are six kinds of maxim politeness which arrange the utterances. Those are The tact maxim, The generosity maxim, The approbation maxim, The modesty maxim, The agreement maxim, and The sympathy maxim. The function of politeness strategies is to reduce various kinds of conflict. Abstract

Abstrak Tujuan penulisan ini untuk mendeskripsikan pendekatan mimesis dalam novel  5 cm karya Donny Dhirgantoro,dan hubungan pengarang dan karyanya. Metode yang di gunakan yaitu metode kualitatif, aspek yang diteliti yaitu aspek sosiologi dalam novel 5 cm karya Donny Dhirgantoro melalui pendekatan mimesis. Yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini berupa penokohan, status sosial, sikap hidup, perilaku sehari-hari para tokoh, dan peristiwa. Tokoh utama dalam novel ini yaitu Genta, tokoh tambahan Arial, Zafran, Riani , dan Ian. Status sosial dalam novel ini disebabkan oleh faktor ekonomi, budaya dan psikologi. Sikap hidup dalan novel 5 cm yaitu berupa kasih sayang antara sesama manusia, kasih sayang terhadap orang tua dan anak, sikap hidup juga berupa tanggung jawab antara satu dengan yang lainnya. Kata kunci: aspek sosiologi mimesis 5 cm Abstract The purpose of writing is to describe a novel approach to mimesis in the works Donny Dhirgantoro 5 cm, and the relationship of the author and his work. The method used is qualitative method, namely the aspects studied sociology in the novel aspects of the work of Donny Dhirgantoro 5 cm through mimetic approach. Used in this study are characterizations, social status, attitudes, behaviors of daily figures and events. The main character in this novel is Genta, additional character Arial, Zafran, Riani, and Ian. Social status in this novel is caused by economic factors, cultural and psychological. Dalan life attitude novel 5 cm in the form of affection between human beings, affection towards parents and children, attitudes also be liable to each other. Abstract

ABSTRACT The research is entitled “Kecemasan dan Mekanisme Pertahanan diri Alice Howland dalam Novel Still Alice karya Lisa Genova”. There are fifteen characters in this novel but only the major character and her anxiety with defense mechanism that become the main focus in this  research. The main purpose of this research is to analyze Alice’s Anxiety and Defense mechanism that are shown in the novel. In terms of methodology, the combination of two approaches are applied namely the intrinsic and extrinsic ones. The theories by Robert Stanton (2007) and Edgard Robert (1964) are used to analyze the main character’s personality. Freud’s psychoanalysis is used to analyze the main character’s anxiety and defense mechanism, C. George Boeree’s book entitled Personality Theory (2006) are used in this research. The research uses descriptive method and the data were collected from the novel with supporting data from some articles on the internet about anxiety and defense mechanism. After analyzing the personality of the major character, the writer finds that Alice Howland has two types of anxiety that are neurotic anxiety and moral anxiety. Alice also has some defense mechanisms: which are projection, displacement, turning against the self, rationalization, denial, compensation, and reaction formation. Abstract

                                           ABSTRACT                                                  This research attempts to analyse and to describe kinship terms of English and Tobelo language. English and Tobelo languages have specific patterns of kinship terminologies. Both of them have a special and unique set of terms to indicate their kinship terminologies.This research aims to make a contrastive analysis between kinship of English and Tobelo languages, and finding out their similarities and differences. The method of research is qualitative through the descriptive as the approach. This research uses the theories of Lado as well as descriptive method by Burling (1971) and also Lounsburry in Leech to find out the similarities and differences of kinship terms between English and Tobelo languages. The English data were collated from several relevant text books and same sources from internet and previous thesis about the term of kinship that has been done before, Whereas the Tobelo language data collected from informant through investigation.The result of this research shows that English and Tobelo languages have similarities in terms of sex, generation, lineage and age. Their also have differences like the English terms of kinship do not separate the age of relative, while Tobelo language does. In terms of generation, the Engglish and Tobelo have the same generation such as four generations above and below ego.Key words:Kinship term in English and Tobelo languages Analysis Contrastive.
