Abstract

Visual-spatial intelligence is one of the multiple intelligences that is important to solve mathematics problem, especially in geometry. The aim of this research is to know about visual-spatial characteristic, such as students’ imagination, pattern seeking, problem solving, and conceptualization in solving the geometric problem. The type of this research was a qualitative research on case study. Subject’s selection procedure was by using snowball sampling. Data collection technique was task-based interviews. The validity was determined by time triangulation. The data analysis technique in this research was reduction, data display, and conclusion. The data was analyzed based on visual-spatial indicator. The results of this research showed that female students have better pattern seeking, problem solving, and conceptualization. Meanwhile male students have better in imagination. Keywords: gender, geometric, intelligence, visual-spatial

Abstract

In order to provide high quality instruction to learners, teachers need to consider critical thinking as one of their educational goals. To develop higher order thinking skills (HOTS) more room needs to be given to students for them to analyse, evaluate and create.  Yet in many language classrooms, examinations are still the dominant mode in evaluating students’ performance. This paper will discuss the teaching strategies and approaches that can be adopted in language classrooms to achieve this purpose.  The various assessment procedures that can be adopted will also be discussed. The use of appropriate technological tools is also emphasized to suit the needs of the digital natives and digital immigrants. They can be used to improve student engagement in class activities and motivate them to learn. All these call for a change in the teacher’s style of teaching to accommodate the changes especially if the aim is to produce learners who are both proficient and critical. Keywords: language proficiency, HOTS, blended-learning

Abstract

Some languages have played an important role as the medium for the revelation of God to mankind. The existence of such language is to bridge the communication of the Prophet who was sent to his people. Thus, the existence of language as a medium of communication in propaganda is desperately needed between mad’u (object of da'wah) and preachers (actor of da'wah). It is understood that a language other than Arabic, serves as an introduction to preaching to the local non-Arab community. The local non-Arabic language as the language of propaganda has not been used as the way it was. There is a process to be followed, namely what is called by S.M.N. Al-Attas as the concept of Islamisation of Language. Linguistic aspects and translation of Islamic values by using the local language of instruction at least prove that Islam is not synonymous with Arab, although the Arabic is used as the language of science. Even here it appears that Islam tends to appreciate the various expressions of culture, including the linguistic aspects. Local and regional languages, when Islam has been embedded in the hearts of non-Arab nations, have not necessarily been lost and destroyed. On the contrary, these languages have increased in terms of the aspects of ethics, morality, and enrichment of terminological. In this very section, the Islamic education plays an important role in the development of linguistics and literacy, both in terms of the scientific language and medium of introduction for propaganda. Keywords: Lingua Franca, Islamisation of language, Jawi script, Arabic pegon script.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to determine the contribution of reading comprehension skill of students to their mathematics learning outcomes in problem solving linear program material for XI SMA MTA Surakarta academic year 2016/2017. In this study, the ability to understand the reading () serves as the independent variable and the results of students' mathematics learning () as the dependent variable. The population in this study were all students of class XI SMA MTA Surakarta academic year 2016/2017 and the obtained sample were 200 students. Based on descriptive analysis, it is obtained an average score of reading comprehension skill is 62.5142, and for mathematics learning outcomes is 46.5075. Based on the results obtained by analysis of linear regression, it is obtained the alleged regression model obtained means or can be used to predict the results of students’ mathematics learning. From the regression equation estimators obtained, a regression coefficient of 0.706 states that any change in the reading comprehension skill by 1 unit will improve mathematics achievement of 0.706 units. Therefore, it can be concluded that there are significant ability to understand the reading of the results of learning mathematics in solving linear program material positively. Keywords: Mathematics Problem Solving, Reading Comprehension Skill
