Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the mechanical properties i.e. tensile strength of composites coconut filter fiber. In the future this material can be used to replace the wood, bamboo and gipsun which are high price and lower water resistance. The research material made with coconut filter fiber as reinforcement and matrix resin unsaturated polyester (UPRs) type Yukalac BQTN 157, with 1% hardener types MEKPO (Methyl Ethyl Ketone Peroxide) and fiber treatment by  0.5% KMnO4. Production methods are poltrusion and the variations of fiber volume fraction are 20, 25 and 30% and fiber length are 5, 10 and 15 mm. Testing of mechanical properties is tensile test (ASTM D3039-76) The results of research show  that  the longer of fiber and the bigger of fiber volume fraction, the higher of tensile strength are obtained. The fracture mode are overload, debonding, pullout and crack deflection

Abstract

Some area in Indonesia such as southern part of Sumatra to Nusa Tenggara have big enough wind speed to produce electrical energy by using wind turbine. However, the potential resources are not yet fully developed, and only 1.4 GW electrical energy has been generating in the Indonesia region. Most of the wind energy generating equipment is designed to the European wind speed which is   10 - 30 knot. So, it is very important to modify the such equipment to be able to implement in Indonesia area which is have a lower wind speed. The purpose of this research is to know the influence of number of blades and wind speed to electricity generated by horizontal axis wind turbine with blade taper inversed linear. The result showed that the highest electrical output power was 2,02 watt produced by 5 blades and 3,5 m/s wind speed. The lowest electrical output power was 2,347 watt achieved by using 3 blades and 2,5 m/s wind speed.

Abstract

Almost all components, both metallic and non-metallic, experience the process of splicing (joining) with other components. Metal components can be welded, bolted and riveted. However, a special non metal materials such as composites, joining can not be done by welding. One type of connection is suitable for composite materials and keeling bolt connection.             The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of the stage of making a hole with drilling machine and a variation of the fiber direction tensile strength of fiber-reinforced composite material with at pandan wangi polyester matrix. On stage perforation process conducted by three stages with the first stage (diameter 2, then continued with a diameter of 4 and 6 mm), stage II (diameter of 4 and then continued with a diameter of 6 mm), and stage III (diameter 6 mm). And for a variety of fiber direction using random fiber direction, the direction, and woven with 30% fiber volume fraction.              The results of this study showed an increase in tensile strength composite material fiber reinforced polyester-pandan wangi with unidirectional fiber orientation, which contained the highest tensile strength of the composite stage I in the amount of 27.20 MPa and a tensile strength composite lowest was at stage III amounting 13:00 MPa. In a composite material with random fiber orientation tensile strength decreased by 19.93% with the highest tensile strength found in stage I in the amount of 17.90 MPa and the lowest tensile strength found in stage III at 8:00 MPa. And the orientation of the woven fiber tensile strength decreased by 51.09% with the highest tensile strength is found in the first stage of 17:30 MPa and the lowest tensile strength found in stage III at 6.80 MPa.

Abstract

Road condition and plain all of the line traffic  Denpasar- Gilimanuk have many slope upward. Beside of many slope upward declivity and long slope upward have many variation too. We must give many attention for that condition in design minimum power engine to vehicle truck, beside the other factors like wind velocity , kind of asphalt , curves ,etc.            The purpose of this research to recite road condition (slope upward , wind velocity ,density) all of the line traffic Denpasar – Gilimanuk, and then will be count minimum traction need of vehicle truck that across that road.            From this research result obtained that the needed traction to overcome all resistance especially slope upward resistance are 6000 N and the estimate needed power about 220 hp from characteristic power torsi.

Abstract

Refrigerant in refrigeration machines will absorb heat from a room space and released the heat to the environment. The heat balancing in the system is heat released from condenser equal with heat absorbed from room space added by the heat equivalent from compressor work. Based on this heat cycle, the writer try to conduct research on using this heat rejection from condenser to heating tap water, focusing on water flow rate increased from 0.5 liter/min to 2.5 liter/min. From experiment and analysis result obtained that the maximum heat water temperature which can be reached is 47.5°C in 0.5 liter/min, with the equipment specifications are 2 HP- split air conditioning and the tank volume is 75 liters. The additional result is heating water temperature is fallen when the water flow rate is increased.

Abstract

Products Woven or ketak is a handicraft product produced by the ‘artisans’ community in the village of Karang Bayan West Lombok with raw materials from plants ketak. In the process it takes the necessary skills to weave and combine woven ketak with other natural products such as wood, pottery, coconut shell or bone. The marketing of wicker web products has penetrated the export market, especially the Japanese market. Problems experienced by industrial partners or the artisan’s community is the transfer of design from businessmen to crafters (door to door), drying process during the rainy season and business management. Designs are sometimes made by the buyer and sent to the entrepreneur via email. The solving problem that is faced by the producents is the important thing to be done, by approaching the centralized design transfer training (in one place that is done in the partner house).  The next one, making a mechanical dryer with two heat sources located beside left and lower right and LPG-fueled (clean, practical, economical and environmentally friendly). Next step, by providing business management assistance (finance and marketing).

Abstract

Zinc and plastic roofs are used vary widely in poor society because of their low price and their installation easiness. A roof installation with an inclination angle is done in order to the rain water is easy to flow. Rainfall causes noise that has a bad impact to human. This research is aimed to obtaining the effect of inclination angle of zinc and plastic roofs on the noise intensity. The research was done experimentally. The roofs investigated consist of zinc and plastic roofs in waveforms. A room with an overall size of 80 cm x 80 cm x 150 cm was made of wood as the frame. The inclination angles were varied; 10o, 20o, 30o and 40o. The rainfall was modeled by a sprayer with three different water flow rates 0,8; 1,0 and 1,2 lt/s. These flow rates represented low, medium and heavy rains. The noise intensity was measured using a sound level meter, which was placed in the centre of the room. The result shows that increasing the roof inclination angle causes the noise intensity to decrease. The plastic roof has lower noise intensity than the zinc roof. Furthermore, the experimental noise intensity data are relatively safe according to the noise safety level.

Abstract

The collector of solar energy can be used for heating fluidssuch as liquid or gas. The  optimize  absorbtion of solar energy depends on the collectordimention and component, e.g.the width, body of collector, tube formation, cover and isolation system. This research usesa granite absorber with a variation of tube formations and water flow rates. The aim of the research is tofind out the optimal tube formation. To achieve the aim of the research, theexperiments of water heating usingthree collectorswith a granite absorber 80 Cm x 100 Cm and three way tube formatians have been done. The variation of water flow rates had beenperformed toinvestigate the maximal performance. The water flow rates used were200, 250 and 300 cc/minute.The result of research achieved value of heat utilization of solar collector influenced by: arrangement inlet tube, flow rates of water and time. The maksimal heat utilization occur at parallel 7 for each flow rate. The flow rate 300 cc/minute show maximal heat utilization.
