Abstract

Healthy life style based on natural food consumption, has been implemented by the society to increase health quality. Minimally processed technology is used to slow down food decay time in the storage room. Minimally processed techology is consist of Controlled Atmosphere Storage (CAS), Modified Atmosphere Storage (MAS), Freeze Driying, and blansir. MAS is food storage technology by conditioning the air composition (especially oxygen level). Banana is an object of MAS implementation, due to its all session fruit and shorter life time. Previous MAS studies used long bean as the object and managed to improve the life time until 15 days. The purpose of this study is to implement MAS to lengthen banana life time. MAS design use Ulrich Eppinger method. Simulation of Turbulance Kinetic Energy (TKE) in the sparger and MAS installation use ANSYS 16.2. The experimental to test sparger and installation is conducted for 6 hours for the sparger and 24 hours for the installation. Afterward the correlation between parameter is calculated by using least square method. The outcome of this  research is MAS for banana in order to be used by SME with capacity of 4.77 m3, mixture time is 24 hours, TKE number in the sparger is 582.6448 J/kg, TKE number in the installation is 715.6 J/kg, oxygen level in the sparger is 5.7%, oxygen level in MAS installation is 8.5%, glucose of banana located in the storage room is 9.5%, and banana life time able to achiave 14 days.

Abstract

ABSTRACTDue to population growth, industry advance and rapid development, fresh and comfortable air may be difficult to get. Conditioning the air to get comfort environment may be a basic demand for people, but the prices of the device and its operation for this purpose are expensive. This research tries to solve this problem but it is just only to know the capability of the heat exchanger  to transfer/ absorb heat and is not to cool the room to be below the ambient temperature. The working fluid used was clean water and the heat exchangers employed were parallel and serpentine which were made of copper pipes with a diameter of 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch (for the header). The volumetric flow rates used were 300 ml/minutes, 400 ml/minutes and 500 ml/minutes. While the heat that should be absorbed by the water from the room is 50 W, 100 W and 150 W. The results show that the effect of volumetric flow rate on heat exchanger performance and room temperature is insignificant. From the pressure drop results, the parallel pipe heat exchanger has lower pressure drops while the serpentine has higher pressure drops.

Abstract

Processing plastic waste in East Lombok mostly just collect plastic waste processing and then sent to the city in its original form. If the plastic waste is processed by applying plastic shredded units or chopper machine technology, the sale value of the plastic waste will be increased. This study describes to determine of feasibility technical and economic aspects to apply the plastic shredder units. The method used in this study is quantitative method in which the author will be a number of data collection is needed in relation to the issues to be examined, so that the research results can be trusted and relied upon the truth. The results of the study found that the engine performance in terms of the efficiency of each stage of the production process of shredded plastic. To purchase process stages, sorting, drying, packaging, and selling obtained an efficiency of 0.938, while the efficiency of the shredding process is 0.906. Furthermore, to obtain a production capacity of 1230.01 kg/day processing owners must buy raw materials 1588.34 kg/day by the number of machines required 2 units of 3 units of existing plastic shredder. So based on the feasibility analysis in terms of the value of BEP, obtained at 29092.03 kilogram production capacity, with a total cost of Rp 176,424,168.75, NPV Rp 113,545,038.34 (>0) and Net B/C ratio of 1.79 (>0) otherwise feasible. By optimizing the engine to 3 units obtained BEP value equal to the NPV Rp 385.139.485,25 (>0) and Net B/C ratio of 4.01 (>0). From the analysis of the value of shredded plastic BEP selling price is higher than the selling price of plastic intact from Rp 3,531/kg into Rp 6.064,35/kg.

Abstract

Recently the use of energy increases. It leads to the energy crisis. Therefore, it is important to promote alternative energy (renewable energy). One of renewable energies, which is potential in Indonesia, is solar enrgy. Solar energy can be harvested using a solar collector. This device can collect or absorb solar radiation and convert it to thermal energy. In this study, two identical collectors are used. One collector consists of 7 pipes and the other comprises 9 pipes. The overall dimension of the collector is 100 cm x 80 cm x 10 cm and the absorber of the collector is made of gravels with a mesh size of 9.5 -12.5 mm. The collectors are placed with a slope of 15o facing to North. The volumetric rates of water used in the experiments are 300 cc / min, 350 cc / min and 400 cc / min. The results show that the collector with 9 pipes is better than that with 7 pipes.
