Abstract

Hateful behavior, driven by stereotypes and prejudice related to ethnicity, gender, religion, politics, aggression, and sexuality, frequently manifests in educational settings. Addressing these issues in early childhood is crucial to fostering inclusive environments. This study employed a quasi-experimental design to evaluate the effectiveness of a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)-assertive training intervention in reducing stereotypes and prejudice in early childhood education. Seventy children were sampled, with 20 children each assigned to an experimental and a control group. The findings reveal that children, even at a young age, exhibit stereotyped behaviors of low intensity, and some demonstrate prejudice. The CBT-assertive training intervention significantly reduced these behaviors in the experimental group. Notable outcomes included a marked decrease in stereotyped behaviors and a positive shift in attitudes among children who participated in the training. These results suggest that CBT-assertive training is an effective method for reducing stereotypes and prejudice in early childhood education. Incorporating this approach into early education curricula has the potential to promote social and emotional well-being. CBT-assertive training holds promise as a practical strategy for fostering inclusivity and addressing bias in early childhood. Future research should examine the long-term impact and broader applicability of this intervention in diverse educational settings.

Abstract

This study assesses the effectiveness of education policies promoting religious moderation using the Countenance Stake Model. Religious moderation in education policy research encompasses what researchers analyze and the desired outcomes sought by stakeholders, ensuring scientific accountability. The research employed a qualitative approach to evaluate religious moderation programs at Raden Fatah State Islamic University Palembang and Raden Intan State Islamic University Lampung. Data collection included document analysis, interviews, and observations, focusing on the implementation and outcomes of religious moderation initiatives. Findings reveal the reinforcement of religious moderation within the educational framework of State Islamic Universities (PTKIN). Programs such as the revitalization of Academic Culture and Student Affairs (PBAK) activities have successfully aligned with the universities' core objectives, promoting education and teaching rooted in moderation. Training and activities conducted by the universities played a significant role in fostering this initiative. This research highlights the critical role of state Islamic universities in mainstreaming religious moderation. By implementing structured programs and aligning with the Ministry of Religion's policies, these institutions have effectively integrated moderation into academic and extracurricular frameworks. The study underscores the effectiveness of religious moderation policies at Raden Fatah and Raden Intan State Islamic Universities. These efforts contribute significantly to the broader goal of embedding moderation within the educational and societal context.

Abstract

Multicultural education aims to ensure fair representation of diverse social groups in school curricula, particularly those historically marginalized due to gender, race, class, or religion. Islamic religious education (IRE) in schools and madrasas emphasizes strengthening faith through knowledge, appreciation, practice, and student experiences. This study examines the contribution of IRE in fostering multicultural tolerance and solidarity among students. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study method to explore the implementation of multicultural values in schools. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and document analysis. The focus was on the role of schools and Islamic religious education teachers in promoting tolerance and solidarity. The findings indicate that IRE contributes to multicultural tolerance through two key strategies: a) Religious and Social Activities – Schools and IRE teachers organize activities such as social donations during disasters, fostering solidarity. Extracurricular activities, including futsal, scouts, and choirs, further support the development of tolerance. b) Good Habits in the School Environment – IRE teachers encourage respect for differences and collaboration among students, promoting daily habits that reinforce multicultural values. These findings suggest that Islamic religious education plays a significant role in strengthening multicultural values by integrating religious teachings with social practices that promote inclusivity and cooperation. Islamic religious education, through religious activities, social engagement, and good habits, fosters multicultural tolerance and solidarity among students. Schools should continue integrating these values into their educational practices to strengthen social cohesion in diverse learning environments.
