Abstract

This study aims to design and conduct an experimental study of axle tilt angles variation on the performance of the Archimedes screw turbine (AST). The AST was constructed based on Rorres (2000) [3] formulation to achieve the optimum design of AST. This design was obtained with the followings parameters: 1.7m turbine axle length, 0.069m and 0.128m of internal and external turbine radius, 0.260m pitch length, 6.5 pitches number, 59° and 72° of external and internal blade angel, and 2 number of blades. The screw turbine performance was experimentally carried out by varying the angle of the turbine axle in the range of 25°, 30°, 35°, 40°, and 45°. The test was utilized the natural river flow with an average discharge of 0.011 m3/s. The result was yielded that the optimum angle of the turbine was at a turbine tilt axle of 35° while the rotational speed was 265.5 rpm, whereby the turbine generated 48.81W power and 4.09Nm of torque. This study is hopefully beneficial for the turbine design reference as well as its experimental evaluation.

Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases are the world’s leading cause of death with significant death rates caused by abnormalities in vessels such as aneurysms and stenosis. These conditions can potentially cause blockage and thinning of vessels which may lead to heart attack, stroke, and bleedings. Recently, computational simulation methods are frequently used in blood flow analysis. These methods are frequently used in vascular fluid dynamics analysis which relate to the origin of a disease, efficacy prediction in installation of therapeutic instruments and complements the in vitro studies. This article presents an example of a simple vascular simulation to study the effect of blood flow with respect to vascular wall displacement. Furthermore, this research shows the importance of formal CFD pre-processing such as mesh independence testing which influences the simlation accuracy as well as vascular flow prediction and its effects on vascular wall displacement. In this research, it is concluded that the number of mesh elements affects the accuracy of vascular wall shear stress (WSS) calculations with average WSS difference of 0.8 Pa with no significant difference in wall displacement values. An average WSS of 1.95 Pa and a wall displacement of 5.7 µm are obtained from the blood flow simulation in this study.

Abstract

As technology grows, so does the consumption of energy, especially electricity. Today, electricity has become the most used energy worldwide and the demand keeps on increasing every year. According to PLN annual report the highest electricity consumption came from domestic sector which peak up to 97.832,28 GWh in 2018. Sadly, our current power supplies are not enough to fulfill those demands. It was the main reason to develop another form of cheaper, more efficient, and environmentally friendly power plants. This research aims to build a simple system which able to generate electricity for bicycle and to determine the voltage and the current it generates with certain speed which can be stored in portable batteries in order to meet the campus power demand. This design uses propulsion from the bicycle and using a 16.8 volt 6600 mAh Lithium-ion battery as its energy storage. The tests show that MID LCD may update and notify the changes of voltage, temperature, speed in every second. The average power released is 13 Watt with maximum output can reach 34 Watt. The test shows that the average voltage error is 0.79% while average temperature error is 1.28% and average speed error is 2.77%.

Abstract

PT PLB (pseudonym) is a company that produces household appliances and kitchen utensils. The country kettle is one type of product made by PT PLB. The productivity of the country kettle production line decreased by 56%. This was due to defective products. The largest percentage of defects in-country kettle products occurred in the spinning process of 40.18%. This study aimed to identify the causes of defects in-country kettle products and how to overcome them by designing improvement proposals. Lean manufacturing principles were used to evaluate the problems that occur. There were three types of lean manufacturing tools used in this study: Value Stream Mapping (VSM) and 5Ways. VSM was used to describe and identify value-added activities, non-value-added activities but necessary, and non-value-added activities so that the production process becomes lean. The root cause analysis was performed using the 5 Whys method. Unskilled workers and non-standard material types between suppliers are the highest contributors to defects in the spinning process. Based on this, this research was focused on improvements made in the spinning process. Proposals for improvements to the causes of the problems found are standardization of work procedures, standardization of supplier specifications, and arrangement of semi-finished goods and/or supplies. Based on the company's results, the proposed standardization of work procedures and arrangement of semi-finished goods and/or supplies may be implemented in the company. Meanwhile, the proposal for selecting suppliers is not feasible due to company limitations

Abstract

Polypropylene/sugarcane bagasse silica (PP/SiO2) composites have been synthesized. The sol gel method with 1 M NaOH was used to synthesize silica from bagasse ash. The results showed that the silica yield was 52.8%. The resulting silica was blended with polypropylene with a mass ratio variation of 1:5, 1:10, 1:15, 1:20, and 1:25 to obtain PP/SiO2 composites. Composites in variations of 1:5 and 1:10 produce fragile plastic, whereas composites in variations 1:15, 1:20, and 1:25 produce strong and homogeneous plastic. The water resistance test showed that PP/SiO2 with variations of 1:15, 1:20,and 1:25 had good water resistance (> 94%), whereas variations of 1:5 and 1:10, the resistance to water dropped to 80-87%. FT-IR was used to characterize polypropylene, silica synthesized from bagasse ash, and PP/SiO2 composites (1:25) to observe functional group changes. FT-IR analysis showed that silica was successfully synthesized from bagasse ash. This is indicated by a band that widened at a wavenumber of 3400-3600 cm-1, which is characteristic of the O-H strain on water. This band is confirmed by a band with a wavenumber of 1660 cm-1 which is a bend in the O-H in a water molecule. Other silica characteristics can be seen in bands with wavenumbers of 1075 cm-1 and 950 cm-1, which are strains of Si-O, and bands with a wavenumber of 460 cm-1, which is a bend of Si-O. The spectra of polypropylene and PP/SiO2 were also similar. The similarity between the polypropylene and PP/SiO2 spectra indicates that SiO2 spreads homogeneously in polypropylene.

Abstract

Fish gelatin hydrolysate is a well- known fish by-product that is high in protein content. It is produced from by-product waste from the fish processing industry, which includes fish skin, head, and bones. Gelatin hydrolysates have recently received much attention due to its high protein content and bioactivity, which includes antioxidant, antimicrobial and antihypertensive activities. The transformation of gelatin hydrolysate into nanoparticles is believed to increase its economic value. Furthermore, reduction into nano-size increases the absorption characteristic of this material. Here, fish gelatin hydrolysate nanoparticles are prepared for the first time using desolvation method. The effects of concentration of gelatin hydrolysate, pH of solution, and acetone concentration on nanoparticle size are determined. The prepared gelatin hydrolysate nanoparticles were found to have spherical shape with sizes varying from 300-400 nm with a mean size of 408 ± 11.4 nm, zeta potential of -16.4 ± 1.2 mV and PDI 0.203 ± 0.07. This study showed that concentration of gelatin hydrolysate, pH and concentration of solvent have significant effects on nanoparticle size. The gelatin hydrolysate nanoparticles can be applied in the pharmaceutical industry for the encapsulation of drugs to facilitate delivery to target sites.

Abstract

Abstract: This paper proposes a microstrip antenna for fifth Generation (5G) technology with a carrier frequency of 26 GHz. Furthermore, the antenna is designed with double U-slots added to a rectangular patch using Defected Ground Structure (DGS) to increase the bandwidth and reduce mutual coupling. It is expected that the antenna has a directional radiation pattern and a linear polarization. For the feeding of the patch, the proximity coupled feed line method is used. The proximity coupled feed line is placed on a different substrate layer with the radiating element. The advantage of this feeding method is that it can increase the impedance bandwidth. The substrate material used is RT Duroid 5880, which is chosen because it can produce more oversized dimensions, work at high frequencies, and have a small material permittivity. The simulation results showed that the highest impedance bandwidth value is 1.6564 GHz, the mutual coupling value has a limit below -20 dB, and the gain value is 7,1151 GHz. Keywords: MilimeterWave, MIMO, double U-Slot, Defected Ground Structure, 5G Abstrak: Artikel ini mengusulkan antena mikrostrip untuk teknologi generasi ke-5 (5G) dengan frekuensi carrier 26 GHz. Abstract

Cancer is one of the most lethal diseases. Recently, cancer immunotherapy has a tremendous achievement in cancer treatment. A certain number of cancer based epitope vaccines with different moiety have been discovered. In japan, several clinical tests of cancer based epitope vaccine derived from tumor associated antigens (TAAs) are now ongoing or have recently been completed. a novel of TAAs potentially as cancer vaccine have been retrieved from a fragment weighed 48kDa derived from human DNA-topoisomerase 1 (TOP1) called Topo48. Therefore, it is still critical to discover a derived Topo48 epitope based cancer vaccine. Immuno-informatics considered as a methods noted to have better accuracy to design promising vaccine candidates. Here, continuous and discontinuous B-cell epitopes following with CTL epitopes and their docking interaction to major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I Human Leukocyte Antigens (HLA)- A0201 were predicted. Kolaskar-Tongaonkar’s, Emini’s, Karpus-Schulz’s, and Parker’s methods were used to predict continuous B-cell epitopes while ElliPro was used for prediction of discontinued B-cell epitopes. Those considered methods marked to have better accuracy to design promising vaccine candidates. Similarly, CTL epitopes was also predicted by using NetCTL server and the best candidates were further investigated their binding affinity by mean of PEP-FOLD3, PatchDock rigid-body docking server, and FireDock server. Total 27 continuous epitopes and 7 discontinuous B-cell epitopes were predicted. In the other hand, 9 peptides were predicted as CTL epitopes. Whereas, three predicted CTL epitope in range 263MLDHEYTTK27, 755AIDMADEDY763, 715ALGTSKLNY724) exhibited good interactions to HLA-A0201. Moreover, we also found residues His266, Thr270, Ala755, Tyr723, Thr718, Ser719, Lys720 from Topo48 and residues Thr163, Asp757, His70, Glu63 from HLA- A0201 were indicated to be antigenic. Ultimately, our proposed continuous/discontinuous B-cell epitopes, and also CTL epitopes can be potential vaccines for cancer immunotherapy.

Abstract

This research aims to determine performance of turbine rotor performance with a single rotor blade model with a diameter of 0.6 m that has been developed by NORCOWE, while for turbine rotor blades used is the NREL S826 airfoil series. The wind turbines are operated at wind speed intervals of 1-5 m / s. This parameter will also present data in the form of the optimal point of wind turbine rotation and rotor rotation speed. The pitch angles used are 25 °, 30 °, and 35 °. The pitch angle that affects the value of the ideal rotational speed with the highest optimization for the horizontal airfoil turbine S826 is 30 ° with a wind speed of 5 m / s and a rotation of 570 RPM. This is because the greater the pitch angle of the installation, the easier it will be to experience speed trimming but is vulnerable to too large an angle of attack that causes a stall.
