Abstract

The selection of an appropriate growing medium significantly affects the growth and quality of robusta coffee seedlings, which ultimately influences the success of cultivation and coffee plant productivity. This study aimed to investigate the effects of different ratios of growing media composed of soil, rice husk charcoal, and compost on the development of robusta coffee seedlings (Coffea canephora L.). A completely randomized design with five treatment combinations of growing media—M1 (1:1:2), M2 (1:2:2), M3 (1:2:3), M4 (1:3:2), and M5 (1:2:1)—was applied, each replicated six times. The measured parameters included plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, root number, root length, as well as fresh and dry weight of the seedlings, observed between 30 and 96 days after planting. Analysis of variance was used to assess the treatment effects on seedling growth. Results revealed that treatment M3 significantly produced the greatest plant height (13.65 cm) and stem diameter (5.57 mm), while M5 excelled in root number (21.67) and root length (21.42 cm). Statistically, the growing media had significant effects on plant height, stem diameter, and root characteristics, but no significant impact on fresh and dry weights. Specific media combinations created optimal physical and chemical conditions by enhancing aeration, water retention, and the availability of macronutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. In conclusion, the growing medium with a soil:rice husk charcoal:compost ratio of 1:2:3 was the most effective for promoting vegetative growth of robusta coffee seedlings. Abstract

Mustard greens are an important leafy vegetable widely cultivated in North Central Timor Regency due to their high demand and their ability to grow in various soil types. Optimizing the production of this crop requires adaptive and environmentally friendly cultivation techniques. This study was conducted to assess the effects of different combinations of growing media and liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) doses on the growth and yield of mustard greens in a semi-arid region. The experiment was carried out in the greenhouse of the University of Timor from January to April 2025, and data processing was conducted at the Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, Science, and Health. A factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was used with two factors, namely growing media (4 levels) and LOF dosage (4 levels), resulting in 16 treatment combinations, each replicated three times, for a total of 48 experimental units. Observed parameters included vegetative growth and plant biomass. The results showed a significant interaction between the two factors on plant height, number of leaves, root volume, and fresh root weight. The best growth was obtained from the combination of soil + cattle manure with the application of 50 ml LOF. This finding indicates that the combination of solid and liquid nutrient sources can enhance fertilization efficiency and support mustard green growth under dryland conditions. Abstract

Oil palm is a very important crop economically for Indonesia. However, in oil palm nurseries, there is a disease that can interfere with the growth of oil palm seedlings, namely brown spot disease caused by the pathogen Curvularia sp. The purpose of this study was to determine the potential inhibition of oil palm seedling growth by Curvularia at various scoring levels of the intensity of attack of this disease. The method used in this study was a group randomized design with 6 scoring levels as treatments and 5 replicates at 3, 4, 5 and 6 months of age and 10 replicates at 7, 8, 9 and 10 months of age. The scoring levels were grouped into 1 = 0%, 2 = 1-20%, 3 = 20.1-40%, 4 = 40.1-60%, 5 = 60.1-80% and 6 = >80%. The observation parameters of this study were diameter, plant height, and number of leaves. Data were analyzed using anova and further tests using the BNJ test. The results showed the occurrence of growth inhibition at each age of oil palm seedlings both in diameter, height, and number of leaves of oil palm seedlings. However, not all levels of attack showed significant differences. The highest level of inhibition of Curvularia attack at the age of 10 months.

Abstract

Most of the causes of meat spoilage are due to poor handling, which provides opportunities for contamination or growth of spoilage-causing microbes that can affect the quality and shelf life of the carcass. Marination becomes a strategic step in maintaining the quality of meat and extending its shelf life. To maintain the quality of the carcass during storage, the addition of cucumbers containing antibacterial compounds is necessary to inhibit the growth of spoilage-causing microorganisms. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of soaking chicken meat in cucumber solution on the quality of chicken meat during the storage process. The method used in this study is a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments and four replications, differing in storage duration at room temperature (0, 3, 6, and 9 hours). The data obtained were analyzed using the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test. If a significant treatment effect is found, it is followed by a comparison test using Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at a 5% significance level. Based on the statistical test, the chemical quality of pH and moisture content, as well as the physical quality of cooking loss, still show values within the standard feasibility range. The results of the ANOVA test show a significant difference in pH and cooking loss values, but no significant effect on moisture content values. Abstract

Gardenia (Gardenia jasminoides Ellis) is an ornamental plant, with every part offering potential benefits. To obtain high-quality gardenia seedlings without altering the parent plant's characteristics, vegetative propagation through cuttings is employed. This study aimed to analyze and evaluate the effects of plant growth regulators (PGRs), growing media composition, and the combined influence of these two treatment factors. The research was conducted over four months at Jl. Yogyakarta No. 07, Menteng Urban Village, Jekan Raya District, Palangka Raya City, Central Kalimantan Province. This study utilized a factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of two factors with three replications. Treatment factor I involved five levels of plant growth regulators (PGRs), and treatment factor II consisted of three levels of growing media composition. The research results indicated that the single PGR treatment significantly affected shoot height at 40 and 60 days after planting (DAP), root count, shoot fresh weight, and cutting survival percentage. Conversely, the single treatment of growing media composition did not significantly affect any of the observed parameters. However, the interaction between the two treatments significantly influenced shoot height at 40 and 60 DAP, as well as root count. The 100 ppm IBA PGR treatment proved to be the most effective, yielding the highest shoot height (17.37 cm) and the highest root count (46.00).

Abstract

Lebak swamp land is a type of suboptimal land with high potential for the development of national rice production, although it is highly influenced by climatic conditions and the typology of water inundation. Variations in lebak swamp land typology lead to differences in productivity, as well as in household farmers' income levels and food availability. This study aims to analyze household income sources and staple food availability among rice farmers based on the typology of lebak swamp lands (shallow, middle, and deep) in Sei Selincah Subdistrict, Kalidoni District, Palembang City. A survey method was employed using proportional stratified random sampling, involving 60 respondents. Data were analyzed quantitatively to calculate income, expenditure, and food availability. The results showed that the highest income was earned by farmers in deep swamps (IDR 27,832,049/year), followed by middle swamps (IDR 26,221,862/year), and shallow swamps (IDR 24,609,383/year). Non-agricultural income significantly contributed to household finances, particularly in shallow and middle areas. Non-rice farming activities, such as galangal cultivation, were only practiced in shallow and middle swamps. Household expenditures were primarily allocated to non-food needs, especially education and savings. Meanwhile, household food availability remains low and varies across land typologies. The highest food availability is found in the middle swamp at 443 kg/year, followed by the deep swamp at 425 kg/year, and the shallow swamp at 405 kg/year. Most of the surplus is sold to meet other household needs. These findings highlight the importance of income diversification and improving food storage capacity to enhance the economic and food security of lebak swamp rice farmers. Abstract

One of the priorities of development in the Government Work Plan is the development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). This research aims to formulate a marketing strategy for the MSME engaged in processing rengginang in Mojopitu Village, Slahung District, Ponorogo Regency, in order to enhance competitiveness and expand market reach. MSMEs play a strategic role in the regional economy, especially in creating jobs and driving economic growth. One of the MSMEs in Mojopitu Village produces rengginang, which still faces various challenges in marketing. The method used is the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) supported by Microsoft Excel to analyze the best marketing strategies based on interviews with experts and MSME practitioners. Primary data was obtained through direct interviews, while secondary data was collected from literature reviews and related reports. The research results indicate that the main factor with priority is the product with a maximum weight of 0.666, showing that product innovation and quality play a key role in business success. Regarding the objectives, it is argued that increasing sales with a weight of 0.818 is the top priority, and that marketing strategies should focus on increasing sales volume. The most effective alternative strategy is digital marketing with a maximum weight of 0.620. This suggests that the use of technology and digital platforms is a key step in enhancing competitiveness and achieving marketing goals. Therefore, it is recommended to prioritize product innovation, increase sales, and trigger digital marketing strategies to enhance competitiveness and sustainable growth.
