Abstract

The purpose of this study is to know the relation between Islamic education core values and character building. Islamic education has a value meaning with a very deep influence, as formulated from the Quran, As-Sunnah and leading contemporary Muslim scholars. The major basic principles of Islamic education core value to character building which are considered as very important in this contemporary Muslim world are knowledge, tawhid (Oneness of God), vicegerent of Allah, Taqwa or God-Fearing, and, effort to persuade good deeds and prohibit evil among subordinates and community. In fact, other principles are amanah (trust), justice, shura (consultation), brotherhood, moral and ethical behaviours, responsibility (trustworthiness), muhasabah (accountability) and motivation. Islamic education can cultivate positive perceptions and motivations, positive emotional responses, and can avoid stress reactions. Its special Islamic education core value is the tawhid (unity) which is the spiritual and material unity, the unity of body and soul, the unity of the world and the hereafter, and the unity of thought and action. Because individuals have different concepts of what is right, it is necessary to develop core values of Islamic education for character building. Method of this study is descriptive qualitative. Result of this study are Islamic education core values (Tawhid) is a process of inspiring and coaching voluntary followers in an effort to fulfil a clear as well as shared vision

Abstract

The study aim at revealing the model the effective school culture through visionary leadership at SMAN 2 Palopo. This is a qualitative – fenomenolgy field research, while data were collected by employing interview, observation, and study documentation, as well as triangulation technique. The results show that he mechanisms conducted in implementing vision are analizing strategic circles, arranging program in strategic planning, and operasional planning. The strategies conducted in developing the culture of effective school includes: developing commitment of effective culture, giving deepest understanding about vision, missions, and objectives of school, establishing distinct course of policy, and emphasizing the importance of creativity and innovation.

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to determine whether or not there was a significant effect of using REDW ( Read, Examine, Decide, Write ) strategy on reading comprehension and to know the significant difference of reading comprehension between students who are taught by using REDW (Read, Examine, Decide, Write) strategy and those who are not . The study was conducted at Islamic Junior High School Tarbiyah Islamiyah Jambi. The population in this study were all eighth graders, each class consisted of less than 30 students. The researcher used REDW strategy in class 8B as the experimental class and class 8A used conventional method as control class. This research used quantitative – experimental approach. The design of study was quasi-experimental design, it was the pretest-posttest non- equivalent group design. The data was collected by a test as research instruments, there were two test: pre-test and posttest. From the results of the test, the independent t-test calculation in posttest score in both groups showed that the significant value was higher than level of significance (0.870 > 0.05). It indicated that there was the significant difference between experimental and control group. Moreover, the paired t-test calculation showed the result of paired sample t-test (5.949 < 0.05) in which there was a significant effect of using REDW strategy on students reading comprehension.

Abstract

Computer is an indispensable component of our day to day lives in the present technological era. The development of practical skills and knowledge of computers is, naturally, very important as well. Internet is the design and development of computer-based information system that deals with the use of electronic computers and computer software to convert, store, process, transmit and retrieve information, browse or surf. The objectives of this study were to: identify Internet facilities available for secondary school teachers; determine whether secondary school teachers are able to utilize the Internet facilities; and investigate how teachers’ gender influence the utilization of internet facilities in secondary schools in Ilorin. The population of the study was limited to secondary school teachers in Ilorin, Nigeria. Two hundred and fifty one (251) respondents were randomly selected from the eighteen secondary schools in Ilorin, Nigeria. A structured questionnaire was drawn and administered on the teachers. Reliability coefficient of 0.89 was realized when the questionnaire were administered on twenty five (25) secondary school teachers in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, using cronbach’s alpha. The research questions were answered using mean, while t-test statistic was used to test the two hypotheses. Findings of the study revealed that there was no significant difference between male and female teachers’ level of utilization of internet facilities for instruction. The study concluded that teachers utilize the available internet facilities for instruction. It was recommended that, Teachers should be encouraged to utilize internet facilities to prepare their lesson plan.

Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui implementasi pengembangan kurikulum yang diterapkan di homeschooling kak seto (HSKS) Pusat. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif. Sedangkan pengumpulan data diperoleh dengan metode wawancara, observasi dan dokumentasi. Dengan sistem homeschooling yang fleksibel dan disesuaikan dengan kebutuhan siswa maka terdapat 2 program pilihan bagi homeschooler yaitu komunitas dan distance learning. Tetapi fokus penelitian penulis hanya pada program komunitas tingkat SMA. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa implementasi pengembangan kurikulum di homeschooling kak Seto (HSKS) sudah berjalan efektif hal ini terbukti dari konsep yang dibuat oleh HSKS sudah terlihat pelaksanaannya seperti kurikulum cerdas kreatif dan ceria serta pendidikan ramah anak. Isi dari kurikulum HSKS sebagian besar masih menggunakan kurikulum KTSP dan terkait perkembangan psikologi anak. Mata pelajaran yang diberikan pada tingkat SMA hanya berjumlah 7 mata pelajaran yang akan masuk pada ujian nasional paket kesetaraan jurusan IPA dan IPS.Sementara kegiatan pengembangan diri siswa untuk menumbuhkan rasa percaya diri, kreativitas, pengetahuan, sosialisasi dan keterampilan adalah kegiatan Friday class, project class, dan outing.waktu belajar di homeschooling relatif singkat hanya 3 kali dalam seminggu 1 mata pelajaran perhari selama 3 jam 2 hari pembelajaran akademik dan 1 hari kegiatan pengembangan diri. Kegiatan yang berhubungan dengan orang tua di lembaga homeschooling tingkat SMA masih sebatas pengambilan rapor atau parents meetingdan konsultasi dengan psikolog, oleh karena itu walaupun orang tua sibuk dengan pekerjaan diharapkan dapat mengawasi anaknya secara terus menerus. Kata kunci :Implementasi, Kurikulum, Homeschooling Abstract Curriculum Development in Kak Seto’s Homeschooling Community Center The objectives of this study is to determine the implementation of curriculum development implemented in kak Seto’shomeschooling (HSKS) Center. This study used descriptive qualitative method. Meanwhile the data collection was obtained by interview, observation and documentation. By flexible homeschooling system and adjusted to the needs of students then there are two options for homeschoolers program that is community, and distance learning. However, in this study, the writer focuses only on the high school level community programs.The results of this study indicates that the implementation of curriculum development in kak Seto’s homeschooling (HSKS) has implemented effectively, it is proven by concept created by HSKShas already seen its implementation such as creatively intelligentand cheerful curriculum and child-friendly education. The content of the HSKS’scurriculum mostlyused curriculum KTSP and the related to the child’s psychology development. The subjects given at high school level only account for 7 subjects to be entered on the national high school equivalency examinationmajoring science and social science. While the students' self-development activities to foster self-confidence, creativity, knowledge, socialization and skills is Friday class activities, class projects, and outing. The learning duration inhomeschooling is a relatively short, it is only 3 times a week, 1 subject per day for 3 hours 2 days academic learning and 1 day for self-development activities. Activities related to the already in homeschoolinginstitutions for high school level is still limited to report term or a parents meeting and consulting with a psychologist, therefore, even if the parents are busy with their work, it is expected they can continuously supervise their children. Abstract

Abstract This article provides a report of teacher’s experience in using ICT-integrated multimodal texts to help heard-of-hearing learners develop or improve their literacy skills especially in mastering reading comprehension. Additionally, this study tried to investigate the impacts of the use of the materials on students’ learning. The study was carried out in a special need school. The research is a case study of an English teacher and three hard-of-hearing learners. The material consists of video observation, photographs, field notes, documents, and interviews with the teacher and the students. The findings showed that multimodal texts which were built with diverse modes or semiotic resources such as color, sound, motion, written text, and gesture could ease the teacher to help the students perform better in the area of reading comprehension although she also encountered some challenges. Moreover, the students perceived the use of multimodal texts positively as it allowed them to participate more actively in the classroom activities. I believe that the result of the study can serve as a consideration for English teachers in teaching readings to hard hearing learners. Abstract

Abstract: The study aims to determine the intensity of student participation in religious extracurricular activities, to determine the religious behavior of students, and to determine the correlation between the intensity of student participation in religious extracurricular activities and religious behavior. The type of research used is field research. The research samples was 75 students. The research instruments were observation, questionnaires, documentation, and interviews. Data analysis techniques by analyzing observation data, documentation, questionnaires and interviews, and interpretations. The results of this research are the level of intensity of the Senior High School of Muhammadiyah 1 Palembang high school students in attending religious extracurricular activities is classified as high and medium. The religious behavior of Senior High School of Muhammadiyah 1 Palembang students is classified as high and medium.

Abstract

This qualitative research discussed the anxieties the students of semester 3, English Department, IAIN STS Jambi faced during the speaking class. The result of the research indicated that the causes of the students’ anxieties were the lack of grammar mastery, pronunciation problem, lack of vocabulary, unconfident feeling, fear of making mistakes and feared of being laughed by other students. But the dominant factors found were the lack of grammar, the lack of good pronunciation, and lack of vocabulary mastery. The lecturer had taken part to overcome these problems by giving them motivation not to give up easily, how to cope with vocabulary problems, and how to prepare well before coming into the class.

Abstract

The gap between students’ learning level and their level of writing prompted this classroom action research (CAR). E-learning was chosen as a media for students to enhance their understanding in producing a good piece of writing. The results showed that integrating e-learning in writing class contributed to the improvement of students’ writing. E-learning fulfilled the need of extended activities to accelerate students’ comprehension which resulted in their writing achievement. Students who actively participated in e-learning based teaching and learning activities showed a better writing performance in terms of organizing ideas. They also become more active during the classroom discussion due to their awareness of their writing problems.

Abstract

This study assessed the contributions of Sokoto State government in funding Adult and Non-Formal Education Programmes in the State within a period of 10 years from 2008 to 2017. Descriptive survey research design was used in the study. The population of the study comprised 14 principal officers from the State Agency for Mass Education, Sokoto and the same total number were used for the final analysis. The sampled agency is State Agency for Mass Education, Sokoto. Data collected through records and questionnaire were analysed using descriptive statistics such as tables, frequencies and percentages as well as charts. The study showed that Adult and Non-Formal Education Programmes in Sokoto State suffer from deficits funding and improper financial records keeping which hampers the progress and effective performance of the State Agency for Mass Education, Sokoto in running Adult and Non-Formal Education Programmes in the State. In line with the findings the study recommends that Sokoto State Government through the State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education should increase its budgetary allocations to Adult and Non-Formal Education Programmes from the annual allocation budget given to educational sector. Additionally, proper record and updated financial record keeping should be documented by the State Agency for Mass Education, Sokoto.
