Abstract

This article focuses on women’s experiences regarding issue of resources governance. It is strongly related to the emergence of mining which proved to be destructive to nature’s and woman’s interests. Through the years the mining has deteriorated the life of women such as threatening food security and women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights. Molo woman’s experiences depict risks that must be faced when the logic of resource governance is dominated by exploitative powers. In addition, stories of Molo women exposed the dynamic of survival and ideas to place the movement in sustainable way.

Abstract

This paper discusses the situation of domestic workers (PRT) and the process of organizing domestic workers that has been doing by the author as a community organizer. The author, with a feminist framework, explores the history of the oppression of women attached to unpaid domestic work and the impact it has on domestic workers who are currently underpaid. This article also discusses the attitude of the state in viewing domestic workers as workers, as citizens and as women as well as the state’s reluctance to ratify the ILO Convention No 189 or ratify the Domestic Workers Protection Bill. The author uses her experience and knowledge in the labor movement and is enriched with the distinctive characteristics of domestic workers. This study concludes that efforts to change the working situation experienced by domestic workers need to be done by organizing domestic workers to have the power to urge thestate to realize decent work.

Abstract

Child-marriage is easily found in most area in Indonesia and is second highest in ASEAN countries after Cambodia. Complexity of child-marriage roots in cultural tradition triggered by religious interpretation. However such facts being worsen as affected by regulations that legalized child-marriage. The soaring of child-marriage provides picture of the weakness of women and young girls in the family and society within dominance patriarchy ideology. Considering such ideology, gender inequality causes women and young girls having minimum access and bargaining position in the decision-making process. When this happens the rights of young girls are difficult to fulfill as can be seen in the fact of high-reaching child-marriage. In Kabupaten Sumenep, East Java, for example, under-age marriage reached 42,5% in 2015. Such complexity needs simultaneous and comprehensive efforts from national level to the desa (village) level which involving related stakesholder in the society. In this paper, I will develop opportunities and strategic measures in counteract child-marriage through the integratization of regulation such as Undangundang no. 6/2014 on the Desa as an entrance to build gender equality, women empowerment and child-protection to campaign against child-marriage.

Abstract

This paper examines sexual violence to women in public space. Sexual violence in public space such as in public transportation is quite close to women’s everyday life but frequently ignored due to its invisible impacts. This paper criticizes previous deeds as powerful symbolic violence. This research unearthes that there is strong relation between subjective experiences and other objective structures such as norms and law system in the gender domination hierarchy manifesting in sexual violence.

Abstract

This paper is a synthesis of the results of the case studies on women’s situation in fisheries done by the members of the SEA Fish for Justice Network. The network is composed of 15 non-government and fishers organizations from the Southeast Asia region. It envisions equity in access to and control over off-shore, coastal and inland aquatic natural resources including the termination of suffering caused by unsustainable resources and/or privatized control over communal resources. The case studies were conducted by SEAFish Network members in Cambodia, Indonesia, Vietnam and Philippines in the second and third quarter of 2008 to highlight the roles, issues and challenges faced by women in coastal communities as well as the spaces provided them to facilitate their empowerment. The network members who conducted the studies were FACT (Cambodia), KIARA (Indonesia), MCD (Vietnam) and PROCESS-Bohol, CERD, and Tambuyog Development Center (CERD).

Abstract

Reformation Era has brought equality to any social movement such as LGBT circle. This era asked and gave opportunity to engage actively in the governance in many ways. Those that entered formal politics, or outside of formal politics such as NGO and community service. LGBT issue is becoming new term in the activism in Indonesia and that is why I established Suara Kita (Our Voice) to celebrate our identity and social justice. This paper narrated the establishment of this organization up to the present time under repression of the society.

Abstract

Tulisan ini akan meletakkan fokus pada kehadiran perempuan dalam eksekutif pemerintahan, yaitu kabinet. Kajian singkat ini akan menggunakan pendekatan institutionalisme feminis yang secara metodologis dan klinis melacak, mencurigai, dan menerangkan bahwa akses dan peran perempuan dalam institusi eksekutif amat terbatasi dan berada di bawah rerata adil. Pendekatan ini adalah pendekatan subjektif yang secara aksiologis berpihak pada perempuan dan kelompok minoritas lain (ras-etnis, kelas sosial politik agama, orientasi seksual, difabel, dan lain-lain). Pendekatan ini memiliki tiga matra keberpihakan: pertama, asumsi eksplisit bahwa peraturan dan praktik yang menjadi raison d’être (alasan eksistensial) praktik politik amat maskulin dan mengabarkan ketidaksetaraan relasi kekuasaan, secara spesifik mengkonstruksi (l)iyan dalam kata kunci gender, ras, etnis, agama, dan kelas sosial-ekonomi. Kedua, memberikan penghargaan pada praktik-praktik informal dari proses-proses komunikasi dan tatakelola politik yang tidak termaktub dalam paradigma modern. Perihal 124 ini secara spesifik menginduk pada praktik-praktik masyarakat adat dan perlindungan ekologis yang erat kaitannya dengan perikehidupan perempuan dan para liyan. Ketiga, komitmen pada pengarusutamaan, pendekatan ini menyadari bahwa dua perihal tersebut tidak akan teratasi tanpa ada komitmen politik atas tindakan-tindakan pengarusutamaan, baik gender, difabel, ekologis, dan lain-lain. Dengan membawa tiga dimensi tersebut, tulisan ini akan mengambil posisikeputusan bagaimana akses perempuan menuju kabinet dan bagaimana jalan dibentangkan untuk memberikan para liyan akses yang adil atas praktik-praktik politik—tidak hanya dalam posisi inferior tetapi perempuan juga perlu berada dalam posisi kementerian portofolio strategis—dimana strategi pengarusutamaan gender dijangkarkan ke dalam sistem operasional eksekutif. Riset ini juga merupakan dokumentasi kajian Jurnal Perempuan atas Focus Group Discussion (FGD) yang dilaksanakan pada 29 Oktober 2014 bersama beberapa ahli di bidangnya masing-masing.
