This article analyses the Indonesian government's intervention to increase the competitiveness of its national coffee industry, especially one of its speciality coffees known as Gayo coffee. It aims to describe the value of Gayo coffee competitiveness based on the level of production, export volume and income of coffee farmers. In doing so, this study used Michael Porter's competitive advantage analysis which is known as the diamond model concept. The findings show that the four indicators in the diamond model concept cannot be fulfilled to make Gayo coffee a product that has competitive advantages for the government intervention was not sufficient in improving the good climate of the Gayo coffee industry. Stakeholders' cooperation in the coffee industry is needed to improve or continue the government efforts so that the Indonesian coffee industry can be competitive with the ones from other countries.

In general, regional integration takes the form of political economy initiatives focused on commercial interests to achieve broader socio-political and security goals. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a regional organization in Southeast Asia. After the end of the Cold War, ASEAN underwent changes, especially in terms of norms, governance, and collective identity. This article aims to explain the institutional reform and transformation of ASEAN's identity as a regional organization after the end of Cold War era. Using Alexander Wendt's concept of Collective Identity, this article argues that the 1997-1998 crisis and political dynamics in Southeast Asia unraveled the weaknesses of ASEAN's traditional principles as a regional organization. This led to skepticism towards the credibility and function of ASEAN. In order to restore its image and credibility, ASEAN conducted institutional reform in some stages. The institutional reform started with conceptualizing shared ideas through the establishment of the ASEAN Community, which was then institutionalized in a set of norms through the ASEAN Charter. These institutional reforms gave birth to a common set of ideas and norms for the member states. These shared ideas and norms indicate the transformation of ASEAN's collective identity as a regional organization that is more in line with universal norms such as human rights, democracy, and good governance.

In 2006, Australia under the Howard government proposed a citizenship test aimed at restricting immigration and toughening citizenship requirements. To understand this proposed citizenship, this essay attempts to analyze the basic ideas of the test by explaining its possible relationship with Australia’s past history and Australia’s dependence on the ‘superpower’ countries in the issue. It explains that the proposed citizenship test reflected John Howard’s political brands and manifested his wonderful skills in understanding and exploiting the living fears of ‘the other’ among Australian people for political gain in his second term. The huge support for the proposed citizenship test indicated that the fear of ‘the other’ and ‘potential enemies’ was still evident among Australian. It also served as evidence that multiculturalism was under threat because people considered it as a policy that undermines dominant culture. The article argues that Australia’s colonial past still plays a role in people’s attitudes and government policies. “The chains of colonial inheritance†has not disappeared in contemporary Australia. Â

From a world perspective, it has been acknowledged that micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) play a vital role in development and economic growth, not only in developing countries but also in developed countries. In Developed Countries, MSMEs are important not only because they absorb the largest number of workers but also in many countries their contribution to the formation or growth of gross domestic product (GDP) is greater than the contribution of big business. The current policy of MSME development is still not optimal. Therefore, stakeholders, government and agencies should make efforts to improve the competitiveness of leading commodities in order to win the competition at the global level. The development of MSME is an integral part of the economic unification among ASEAN member countries. So far, government policies related to UMKM mostly use social welfare approach rather than business approach. The SME cluster is a system that supports the progress of SMEs, SME clusters form internal and external networks to gain economic benefits and enhance competitiveness.

This paper examines the Punk community in Ujung Berung Subdistrict, Bandung. In its coexistent life, the punk community for the wider community is regarded as aberrant behavior or social anomaly. This community is synonymous with violence, hooliganism, and no rules. This deviant behavior is considered to be disturbing to society. This act is very disturbing comfort in the social environment of society. The Punk community has had its own subculture recognized by the community and is sometimes considered perverted. Punk as a subculture form certainly has conflicting values because this subculture emerges as a form of counterculture of the mainstream social system. Referred to as mainstream is the dominant and conventional social patterns. This difference can lead to a perverted assumption from the public about the punk subculture.

This study explored the role of government to encourage and provide a model of economic growth, including in the field of micro, small, and medium enterprises. Among these was the digital media industry. It could be a potential that can provide public welfare. The questions to be answered here were about how to model a development of community-based digital media industry in Cirebon City, West Java; whether the government could bring people to the digital media industry in order to foster the creative economy of society; and how the community appreciated and became a part of the digital media industry. With descriptive and qualitative methods, this study found that the government had sufficiently active roles in the development of the digital media industry in the community. The community itself had already been opened in responding to the government’s programs and the development of contemporary technology in the field of selling goods and services. Still, there were obstacles that might be continued to be refined for the success of the community’s digital media industry.
