Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out the kind of errors that often occurred in the use of the word order in recount text made by student at SMKN 1 Pinrang. To analyze the data, the writer used descriptive qualitative method and used error analysis procedure. The participants of this study consist of 30 students from the grade XI of Accounting 3 at SMK Negeri 1 Pinrang. The data were taken by using tests of writing. By this writing test, the writer found errors as follows: the errors of using the correct verb (45.41 percent), the errors of using the correct to be (30.28 percent) and the errors of using the correct noun phrase (24.31 percent). Based on the finding and discussion of the research, the researcher concluded that the most common error that made by the students is using verb.  Based on the finding and discussion of the result, the researcher concluded  that the students still faced difficulties in using word order.

Abstract

This paper aims to find out the improvement of the students’ reading skill at the First grade of SMAN 1 Mare Bone through Interactive Approach method. This research used classroom action research (CAR) which was conducted to solve the students’ problem in English reading. The Classroom Action Research (CAR) was done based on Kemmis and McTaggart’s design.the researcher did two cycle in which each cycle consists of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The finding of the research indicated that the implementation Interactive Approach was successful since the criteria of success were achieved. The first criterion was 70 % of students could pass the target score 70 based on the KKM. The finding showed that 74.57 of students had already achieved the target score. besides, the second criterion was the students who become more active involved in teaching learning process. the result of observation checklist showed that through Interactive Approach method, the students were more creative confident in the classroom especially reading activity. Based on the finding mentioned above, the researcher suggest that English teacher could implement Interactive Approach method in teaching reading in order to improve students in learning Englsih reading.

Abstract

This research was conducted to the second year students of MTsN Model Makassar in academic year 2014-2015. The subjects of this research consisted of thirty seven students. The objective of this research was to improve the students’ speaking ability through Project Based Learning (PBL) method. This research applied Project Based Learning (PBL) to improve students’ speaking ability. It is aimed to know the process teaching learning of using Project Based Learning (PBL) to improve students’ speaking ability. The researcher used Classroom Action Research (CAR) as the research method. The researcher conducted two cycles; each cycle consisted of three meetings.  The data were collected use three instruments. First instrument was observation sheet. The aims of this observation were to know the students’ activity during the teaching and learning process, and to know the activeness of learning in improving the students’ speaking ability, the second instrument was speaking test to measure the student’s speaking skill improvement, and the last instrument was questionnaire to know the students’ attitude toward project based learning (PBL).Keywords: speaking aspects, speaking activity, project-based learning

Abstract

This research aims at finding the Contribution of Teachers’ Pedagogical Competence toward the Effectiveness of Teaching of English at MTsN Balang-Balang. This research used the qualitative descriptive research, that is the researcher observe the teaching and learning process and interact with the teacher by interview and observation.The researcher found that the contribution of teachers pedagogy competence toward the effectiveness of teaching of English, seems the teacher have made serious effort in conducting the teaching and learning to make more effective in teaching of English in the class. This contribution seen from how they organize the learning from arranged the teaching plan, teaching and learning process, and assessment. The teachers were also able to motivate the students to attend the class, induce the students to learn the material as well as explain the material clearly so that the students could comprehend it easily. Furthermore, the students were also active in asking and answering questions both from the teacher. In the section of discussion, the students were also able to conclude the materials taught during the teaching and learning process. It means that teacher’s pedagogy competence could improve students’ motivation to learn.

Abstract

This study was a CAR situated at the second semester students of Foreign Language Intensive Program (PIBA) of UIN Alauddin Makassar. The students experienced crusial problems in Interpersonal Conversation. They seemed likely afraid to talk as well as to speak something in front of the class. Moreover, they considered spoken English such a hell subject. Consequently, the study employed a kind of Cooperative Learning named Inside Outside Circle in the learning process to introduce better English conversation to students. Finally, it was found that there was a significant achievement as well as a marvelous performance gained by students from the first up to the second cycle. The mean score at pre cycle test was only 15, 45. Then, It raised up to 46, 80 at the first cycle as well as 70,20 at the second cycle. Furthermore, the highest score of pre-test was 37 and changed to 80,71 in the first cycle post test, then raised up to 89,12 in the second cycle. Otherwise, the lowest score is 1 becomes 18 in the first cycle and 60 in the second cycle. Thus,the Cooperative Learning model IOC could increase the students’ capability of conducting better English Interpersonal Conversation as well as encourage students’ class involvement.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out the effectiveness using word wall picture in Teaching Students’ Vocabulary at sekolah luar biasa negeri pembina provinsi Sulawesi Selatan SENTRA PK-PLK. This research used Pre-Experimental Design. This reseach involved 3 students, at Sekolah Luar Biasa Negeri Pembina Provinsi Sulawesi Selatan SENTRA PK-PLK. The independent variable of this research was (using word wall picture) and the dependent variable was (students’ vocabulary). The instrument of this research was a multiple choices test used in pre-test and post-test. The result of the data indicated that there was a significant difference between students’ pre test and post test. The mean score of posttest (91) was greater than the mean score of pre test (53.33). The standard deviation of posttest (4.89) was lower than the standard deviation of pre test (11.54). From t-test, the researcher found that the value of t-test (4.797) was higher than t-table (4.303) at the level of significance 0.05 with degree of freedom (df) =2.It means that the use of Word wall picture was effective to improve the students’ vocabulary at Sekolah Luar Biasa Negeri Pembina Provinsi Sulawesi Selatan SENTRA PK-PLK.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to know whether chunking strategy effective to improve students’ reading comprehension of the second year of SMP Negeri 2 Barombong and found the students’ attitude in learning using chunking strategy. The research design applied non-equivalent control group design which is one of the forms of quasi experimental design consisting of two groups (Experimental group and controlled group) each group covering 6 meetings. This research focused on improving the students’ reading comprehension in comprehending narrative text. The instruments used were reading text, observation sheet, and questionnaire.Further, the data analysis techniqueused in this research was statisticalanalysis.The findings of this research showed that chunking strategy effective to improve the students reading comprehension in which the mean score of students’ post-test of experimental group was 56. It was higher than the controlled group that was only got 23.This research was successful to solve the students’ problem in comprehending thetextby using chunking strategy.

Abstract

This paper aims at finding out whether or not communication Approach affect students’ achievement in speaking class. This research was experimental research, which aims to find out the effectiveness of communicative approach for improving the process of English language teaching and learning. The population of this research were the fourth semester of STAIN Watampone which consists of 44 students. From this number, the research took 22 students randomly as the sample of the research. Those students were divided into two classes, namely 11 students in experimental class and 11 students in the control class. The instrument of this research was observation checklist and speaking test. Communicative approach can improve students’ speaking achievement at STAIN Watampone. It was indicated by the result of t test that the t- observation was higher than t-table value, where t- observation = 2,204> t- table = 2.086, at .05 levels of significance with a degree of freedom of 20. This data indicates that there is a significant difference between students’ speaking achievement taught by using communicative approach than taught by using conventional method. It could be stated that the application of communicative approach in teaching speaking could improve the students' speaking achievement better than the conventional applied.

Abstract

This study aims to describe (1) the integration of the spiritual attitude and social attitudes to the teaching of English , (2) the problems faced by English teachers in integrating spiritual attitude and social attitudes to the teaching of English, (3) the English teachers’ effort to cope with the barriers in integrating spiritual attitude and social attitudes to the teaching of English in MTsN Model Makassar.The study was designed in the form of qualitative descriptive study. Subjects in this study were two English teachers in the 7th grade of MTsN Model Makassar. The data were collected by using the methods of documenting, observation, and interviews. Data were analyzed through triangulation data. The results showed that (1) the integration of the behavior competence to the teaching of English lies on the components of planning, implementation, and assessment. The real integration is carried out by means of motivating/encouragement, warning, direction, reprimand, assignment, and reinforcement to students while participating in teaching and learning activity, (2) the obstacles faced by the English teachers (a) difficulty in reconciling the stated in lesson plan and the real activity occured in the classroom (b) difficulty in dealing with different student’s character, (c) lack of time management in teaching, (d) poor management classroom , (e) the lack of infrastructure, (3) the solutions given by the english teachers sharing with Teachers Working Group (KKG), coordinating with teacher counseling  and parents, good teacher-student relationship, and provision of adequate infrastructure.Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the integration of the spiritual attitude and social attitude lies on the components of planning, implementation, and assessment of teaching. Its implementation is done by providing reinforcement  to the internalization of attitudes. The obstacle lies on the planning and implementation. Advice can be given of the results of this research that teachers should more improve the accuracy in selecting the KD of KI-1 and KI-2 to be integrated into the KD of KI-3 and KI-4 in order to enact the planning conform with the implementation. For the education department, they should further enhance the delivery of training related to the implementation of the 2013 curriculum.

Abstract

This research paper aims at finding whether the students ability in listening can be improved by activating students’ prior knowledge. The research conducted at English education study program of faculty of Tarbiyah and education of UIN Alauddin Makassar. This research applied cluster random sampling method. The research data were collected using listening test. It was given at pretest and posttest to know the students’ achievement on listening. The data got during research was analyzed by t test. The finding of the study indicated that the experimental group was higher than that of control group. The result of the hypothesis testing showed that the difference of average score was significant (0.000 < 0.05). This means that there was an improvement of students’ achievement after being exposed by activating their prior knowledge. It implies that activating students’ prior knowledge can improve students’ listening skill.
