Jurnal Studi Komunikasi (Indonesian Journal of Communications Studies), one of the journals published by Faculty of Communications Science Dr. Soetomo University, was established in January 2017. Jurnal Studi Komunikasi a double blind peer-reviewed journal, explores critical and constructive inquiries into a wide range of fields of study on Communication Science that include culture, religion, media, gender, public policy, development, environment, disaster, and tourism, with emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches: Communication Studies. It addresses issues with multi-perspectives view. Each volume of the journal discusses a specific theme based on “Call for Papersâ€, through which scholars, from diverse disciplines, are invited to contribute. Jurnal Studi Komunikasi published on March, July, and November.

It is generally considered that knowing one language is not enough in this era. People need to learn a second language in addition to their mother tongue to meet the demand of today’s life as many of them are becoming a part of multilingual society as well as to face the globalisation. This paper aims to demonstrate the reasons of people learning a second by looking at the several goals they want to achieve in current situation and link it to the second language learning in education context. Subsequently, it also provides some criticism against the majority of English language teachings that set native speaker’s competence as the ultimate goal and highlights the concept of L2 user as a new paradigm and its implication to second language learning.Â

Television is a mass communication media that is still in demand by the public to get information and entertainment. Although the era of cyber that grows social media is in sight, but television is the audiovisual media is the easiest convergence so that in the future any television remains connected to social media. Therefore, television will be a priority medium for the industry to market its products or services. Along with that television became the trust of the traditional health care industry to market its products and services. While some of the traditional health care industry is suspected of violating government regulations that prohibit its existence to publish and advertisement. The Indonesian Broadcasting Commission has the responsibility and authority to oversee the availability of such advertisements because the law authorises them. But apparently, the supervision is not effective, proven advertising of traditional health services increasingly rampant in television. This is because the KPI does not have the authority to impose sufficient sanctions to broadcasters so as to create a deterrent effect. Besides, it turns out that advertising from traditional health services is the primary income currently for television media, especially local television. The government is also facing a similar dilemma to impose severe sanctions because traditional health services still have a place in society. There needs to be a law-level regulation that can accommodate the problem

 This research aim to show the internet from cyberthopia perspective to discribe that the dogma in the society such as technologi as man extenions, It is not entirely true. To support this research, ten indonesian statrtup women, with income hundreds of millions per month, were chosen as the main object in this research. Furthermore, the results of this study show that the Internet has blurred the gender boundary between femininity and masculinity. The statement of the existence of a man is no longer fully valid with the great success that has been achieved by these ten business startup women as economic agents of the family without releasing identity as a female figure.Â

The public information disclosure policy has entered its 7th year of implementation since it was enacted in 2008 and began to be implemented in 2010. As with other procedures, monitoring and evaluation are required in the application so that the policy implementation does not deviate from the expected. In this Jokowi administration era, the ideas to realise open government are getting closer to the support of the development of information technology. But how is it implemented in the area? This research wants to photograph the implementation of public information disclosure policy in East Java, consisting of 38 districts/municipalities and 56 units of regional apparatus. The results of this study indicate that for the district or city government, the implementation of this information disclosure policy has been an encouraging development, but not so with the Regional Device Work Unit. Likewise, the Information Management and Documentation Officer also experienced progress although there are still shortcomings in the implementation of its duties.

Culture has a dominant role in supporting the tourism sector of a region.. Likewise with the District of Banjarnegara that embodies the vision and mission related to culture through the implementation of Dieng Culture Festival that crowned as one of the three most popular Indonesian cultural festivals in the world. Dieng Culture Festival which is full of cultural meaning as the essence of a cultural communication process. This qualitative research uses constructivism paradigm to give an overview of cultural meaning in Dieng Culture Festival series. Data to support this study were compiled from interviews with Dieng cultural activists and literature review. The result of this research is the whole series of events in Dieng Culture Festival communicating the Javanese culture in general with the added local wisdom of the typical Dieng community, which is influenced by the growing beliefs in the surrounding community.

In Javanese tradition, during every encounter, the communicator had to be aware with the other people social standing to be able to choose the appropriate style of conversation based on the relationship. This article is trying to explore how the phenomenon of Javanese language shift happened in Indonesia as well as too see if social class would play important role in it. As social changes might probably bring differences to language use as it has direct influence from the social status coming from Weber’s social class theory. The conclusion of this article, author found a threat for krama as Indonesia’s language heritage that might vanish. In the context of family communication, future research might want to try to see if parental social class can help the generation to maintain a nation’s language heritage regardless of their social class stratification.

Today, there are many advanced transportation tools developed and created by humans in order to meet all the elements of satisfaction in the human self itself. As in Indonesia itself recently will be built rapid train from Jakarta to the city of Bandung. This is one of the qualified facilities that are expected to fulfill the needs of the society in transportation. But behind it all there are some means of transportation where people are not too interested in all sophistication of technology, but has an artistic, iconic and unique value to use. "Angkot Gaul", so the people of Padang City call it and by the drivers make this transport not only deliver passengers to the destination but has a good point of view to use. Like the car modification, Angkot Gaul is known not only in the city of Padang but also national. So with the uniqueness owned Angkot Gaul is eventually used as a packaging that can increase sales of services well and of course the value of satisfaction both by the driver himself and passengers. What is the iconic value and uniqueness of this public transport? The researcher is looking at the meaning of semiotics using the theory of Charles Sanders Pierce which contained the value of semiotics that contained its meaning on Angkot Gaul Padang City in terms of language, color, music and stickers modified by the driver of Angkot Gaul.

There is a trend in the city of Kediri which shows that culinary business that started from the “bedagâ€/roadside “rombong†have loyal customers while culinary business with established artifacts able to retain consumers not more than 1 year. This quantitative research using survey method with semantic diferential scale to collect data so that can be found a comprehensive picture of the population that is culinary consumers kediri city with an area of ​​63.40 km2. The results showed that there is a significant influence on cultural factors on consumer loyalty. This research can be used as a reference for prospective investors who want to invest in Kediri city, especially in culinary field to use original cultural element of Kediri as one of marketing strategy to get consumer loyalty.

Abstract: The aim of this paper was to develop a website of research institue at Universitas Negeri Makassar, that can be accessed by many people to check information about reseach anytime and anywhere without the limit of time and location so that the disclosure of information research can be done. The method used in this research is the Software Development Life Cycle method with the three stages namely Initiation Phase, Development/Acquisition Phase, and Implementation Phase. The development of this information system using PHP and CodeIgniter as a its framework. This system development using PHP programming language and CodeIgniter Framework with MySQL database. Abstrak: Tujuan dari tulisan ini adalah dikembangkannya suatu Website Lembaga Penelitian di Universitas Negeri Makassar yang dapat diakses oleh berbagai pihak yang terkait dengan penelitian kapan saja dan dimana saja tanpa adanya batasan waktu dan lokasi sehingga keterbukaan informasi penelitian dapat terlaksana. Metode yang digunakan pada tulisan ini yaitu Metode Software Development Life Cycle dengan tiga tahapan yaitu fase awal, fase pengembangan, dan fase implementasi. Pengembangan sistem informasi ini menggunakan bahasa pemrograman PHP berbasis pada Framework CodeIgniter dengan basis data MySQL. The commercial advertising is one the most famous and the most discussed promotion tool because of its scope. One of the products using Television Commercial, as the promotion tool in Ramadan, is Ramayana Department Store. Before and During the Ramadan, most Moslems have their activities in Ramadan with themselves, their society, their colleagues and their beloved families. In Ramayana Ramadan Commercial "Their Happiness is My Happiness" ("Bahagianya Adalah Bahagiaku"), aired in the television, aimed: (1) to know the family relation to the meaning of Ramayana Ramadan Commercial "Their Happiness is My Happiness" ("Bahagianya Adalah Bahagiaku") for Indonesian Moslems' habit during Ramadan. (2) To discover the creative message in Ramayana Ramadan Commercial "Their Happiness is My Happiness". For this commercial analysis, the writer applied Content Analysis Approach and Communication Semiotics approach. Based on the analysis in each part of the commercial, the writer found the process of the delivered message by Ramayana Ramadan Commercial. The message is related to the unstoppable habits of Indonesian Moslem, from the past until now, about the roles of Moslems for having fast at the holy month of Ramadan.
