Abstract

Disability is not something that is 'invisible', but it is something real and present among us.  Media, especially television through advertising, has a significant role in creating perceptions about disability and to change the paradigm of people on disability. This research discusses how Channel 4 (C4) through "We're the Superhumans" (WTSH) advertisement represents and constructs disabilities. This research used a qualitative approach and Peirce's semiotics method. The data are based on WTSH advertisement, literature study and documentation. Interviews were also conducted with C4. The results show that the disability is represented as 'superhumans' who have various abilities and achievements. Through 'Yes I Can' song, the spirit of the disability were represented. C4 constructed the reality of disability by displaying 140 persons with disabilities and celebrations for their achievements, not only as athletes but also as persons with disabilities in their daily lives.[Disabilitas  bukanlah  suatu  hal  yang  ‘invisible’  (tidak   terlihat),  namun merupakan sesuatu  yang  nyata dan ada diantara kita.  Media, terutama televisi melalui iklan, memiliki andil yang besar dalam menciptakan  persepsi mengenai disabilitas dan dalam mengubah paradigma masyarakat mengenai disabilitas. Penelitian ini membahas bagaimana Channel 4 (C4) melalui iklan “We’re The Superhumans” (WTSH) merepresentasikan dan  mengkonstruksikan disabilitas. Penelitian ini  menggunakan pendekatan   kualitatif dengan metode penelitian semiotika Peirce. Data penelitian berdasarkan iklan ‘We’re The Superhumans’, diambil dari studi kepustakaan dan dokumentasi. Wawancara juga dilakukan dengan pihak C4 selaku pembuat iklan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa disabilitas direpresentasikan sebagai   ‘superhumans’ yang memiliki berbagai kemampuan dan prestasi. Melalui lagu ‘Yes I Can’, direpresentasikan  semangat para disabilitas. Melalui iklan WTSH, C4 mengkonstruksikan realitas mengenai disabilitas dengan menampilkan 140  penyandang disabilitas dan perayaan akan pencapaian  mereka, bukan hanya sebagai atlit, namun juga sebagai penyandang disabilitas dalam keseharian mereka.]

Abstract

The research is about the ‘struggle’ to name persons with disabilities in Indonesia. As in other countries that find naming as an important tool in the fight for equality, Indonesia witnessed various naming influenced by the way people see disability and persons with disability.  The research is aimed at understanding which naming that is more popular in terms of its usage and how a term is used. The data are gathered from the online use of three words: penyandang cacat, difabel, dan penyandang disabilitas. It seeks to see the poplarity of the words in three different levels: their trends, popular use in the online news media, and their academic use in the journals and books. The method to gather and analyze the data is mostly helped by Google search engine and its rich features. The researh concluded that there has been a dynamic use of the words across the level. ‘Difabel’ is the most popular word in trend; ‘Penyandang Disabilitas’ shared the popularity with ‘Difabel’ among news media; and surprisingly ‘Penyandang Cacat’ is still the most used term among scholars.[Penelitian ini difokuskan untuk meneliti ‘perebutan makna’ dan penggunaan berbagai istilah terkait dengan difabel. Penelitian bertujuan melihat istilah mana yang paling banyak digunakan dan bagaimana istilah-istilah itu digunakan. Penelitian dilakukan dengan mengumpulkan data-data daring (online) terkait dengan tiga istilah kunci dalam wacana disabilitas di Indonesia: penyandang cacat, difabel, dan penyandang disabilitas. Penelitian dilakukan dengan mengumpulkan data-data online dan menganalisisinya dalam tiga aspek: tren penggunaan istilah; popularitas di dunia berita daring; dan penggunaan di dunia akademik. Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada dinamika menarik dalam penggunaan ketiga istilah itu di ketiga wilayah pencarian. Istilah ‘difabel’, meskipun tidak diakui sebagai istilah resmi undang-undang, adalah istilah yang paling populer di tren. Sementara istilah ‘penyandang disabilitas’ mencatatkan skor popularitas yang sedikit lebih tinggi dari ‘difabel’ dalam penggunaan di media daring. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui serta menjelaskan metode yang dilakukan guru BK dalam mengatasi problem penyesuaian diri pada sisiwa tunarungu SD LB di SLB Purwokerto. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian lapangan dengan jenis penelitian kualitatif (studi kasus). Subjek penelitiannya kepala sekolah, guru BK, dan siswa tunarungu, sedangkan objek penelitiannya adalah problem penyesuaian diri pada siswa tunarungu SD LB dab metode guru BK dalam mengatasinya di SLB Purwokerto. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa problem penyesuainan diri pada siswa tunarungu meliputi kurang percaya diri, kurang mandiri, cenderung kaku, dan egoisentris. Metode yang digunakan oleh guru BK dalam mengatasi problem penyesuaian diri tersebut yaitu dengan metode bimbingan khusus. Metode bimbingan khusus dibagi menjadi 2 kelompok besar yaitu metode kelompok (metode ceramah, metode demonstrasi/praktik, metode drill, dan karyawisata) dan metode individu (metode tanya jawab dan metode penugasan).

Abstract

Prayer is an obligation for every Muslim. It consist of speech and movement. The speech aspect of the prayer has been a problem for the deaf. They generally fail to learn and practice the prayer correctly becuase of this speech barrier. This paper is based on an action research designed to help deaf students to learn the prayer better.  The action research was designed by visualizing the Arabic speech into the Indonesian Sign Language (BISINDO). The reasearch shows that the visualization of prayer speech into the Indonesian sign language is more effective than using the Arabic speech-based prayer learning. In addition, this program can affect the daily practice of prayer among deaf students.[Ibadah salat, yang merupakan kewajiban bagi setiap orang Islam, di ditunaikan dengan ucapan dan perbuatan. Unsur ucapan dalam salat menjadi hambatan bagi para Tuli. Karena gaya belajar berbasis visual merupakan cara yang paling optimal bagi Tuli untuk belajar, maka cara yang tepat dan aksesibel dalam belajar salat adalah dengan memvisualisasikan bacaan salat yang berBahasa Arab menjadi Bahasa Isyarat Indonesia (BISINDO). Artikel ini menjelaskan bagaimana cara meningkatkan praktik tata cara salat untuk mahasiswa Tuli melalui program pelatihan salat berbasiskan BISINDO. Penelitian tindakan (action research) yang menjadi dasar tulisan ini membuktikan bahwa visualisasi bacaan salat menjadi bahasa isyarat lebih efektif daripada menggunakan Bahasa Arab secara oral. Program ini terbukti mempengaruhi praktik salat mahasiswa Tuli dalam kehidupan sehari-harinya.]

Abstract

One of the challenging subjects in chemistry for students with visual impairment is the periodic table, known in bahasa Indonesia as SistemPeriodikUnsur ( SPU). The common method of teaching currently used for this subject is lecture, with occasional use of tactile demonstration where the teacher or lecturer describes the visual component by drawing the object on thestudent’s palm or back. In short, students with visual impairment learn the periodic tableby relying heavilyon their memory.Based on this teaching challenge, this developmental research undertakesthe development of a Braille version of the periodictable that will enable a blind student to properly learn chemistry. This Braille model is an accessible, tactual based learning tool that enables blind students to learn independently through experience.[Salah satu materi pembelajaran kimia yang termasuk sulit diajarkan kepada siswa difabel netra adalah materi Sistem Periodik Unsur (SPU). Guru menyampaikan materi SPU kepada siswa difabel netra dengan metode ceramah. Guru memperkenalkan berbagai unsur dalam susunan periodik dengan bercerita dan sesekali memberikan gambaran dengan rabaan pada tangan atau punggung. Oleh karena itu, siswa difabel netra hanya mengandalkan ingatan dalam mempelajari materi tersebut.Pengembangan TPU Braille untuk siswa difabel netra ini diharapkan dapat menjadi media bagi siswa difabel netra untuk belajar kimia dan dapat memenuhi kebutuhan siswa difabel netra akan media dan alat bantu. Pengembangan TPU Braille untuk siswa difabel netra memenuhi media yang assestive bagi siswa difabel netra yang bersifat taktual. Siswa difabel netra dapat belajar dengan pengalaman mereka sendiri dan tidak merasa diperlakukan berbeda diantara yang lain sehingga motivasi dalam belajar kimia siswa difabel netra dapat tumbuh meskipun dengan keterbatasan yang dimiliki.]

Abstract

This study aimed to compare the achievement, motivation, and independent learning of blind students who use screen reader JAWS and braille module.This research was conducted at MAN Maguwoharjo Yogyakarta involving 5 blind students in the chemistry subject of academic year 2013/2014. One student is as an instrument validation test subject, two students as subjects in the experimental class and two students as subjects in the control class. The instruments used in this study are the observation sheet,multiple choice test, questionnaire responses, motivation scale, and independent learning scale. Data of student achievement, motivation and independence scale were analyzed using nonparametric statistical test of independent samples. The result shows that no significant difference between the achievement, motivation, and independence of blind students who use screen reader JAWS module and braille module.

Abstract

As the lack of consciousness for the importance of universal environment without any physical border, gender, and age for every society leads to a minimum policy to support universal design concept to be applied in public facilities building plan. This is also happened in most of mosques building in Indonesia, where it is not easily accessible to all jammaat including the children, adults, the elders, and the diffabled. The circulation on a mosque should not give barriers to people who wanted to do worship activities, especially the diffabled. A universal design mosque concept is one of the most important to be concerned and applied so the building will be accessible to all Muslims. This research aims to know how far is the universal design concept affect the independence of the disabled. The study was done at UIN Sunan Kalijaga mosque and UGM Campus Mosque in Yogyakarta. The researcher did a field observation to the research objects to see how far is the universal design concept is applied. The research method done is quantitative method with independency scale of measure for the disabled’s within the building. The data was analyzed by the comparison of two independent sample using t-test statistics analysis method. The end result in this research stated that the disable’s perception on independency level raise positively towards the universal design concept applied in the mosque‘s design planning. [Belum banyaknya kesadaran akan pentingnya lingkungan yang universal tanpa batasan fisik, gender dan usia bagi semua masyarakat, mengakibatkan kebijakan mengenai pembangunan fasilitas umum masih belum secara tegas mendukung konsep desain universal. Hal tersebut juga terjadi pada sebagian besar masjid di Indonesia, dimana masjid tidak dapat diakses oleh semua golongan jama’ah antara lain anak-anak, dewasa, lansia maupun difabel. Sirkulasi pada bangunan masjid tidak seharusnya memiliki hambatan bagi jama’ah yang ingin beribadah, terutama difabel. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh konsep desain universal terhadap tingkat kemandirian difabel pada desain bangunan masjid. Studi kasus dilakukan pada Masjid UIN Sunan Kalijaga dan Masjid Kampus UGM di Yogyakarta. Peneliti melakukan observasi pada objek penelitian untuk melihat sejauh mana objek penelitian menerapkan konsep desain universal. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode kuantitatif dengan alat ukur skala kemandirian difabel di dalam bangunan. Data dianalisis dengan metode komparasi dua sample independen menggunakan analisis statistik t-test. Hasil akhir penelitian menyatakan bahwa persepsi difabel terhadap tingkat kemandirian berpengaruh secara positif dengan adanya konsep desain universal pada desain bangunan masjid.]

Abstract

Blind students find difficulties whenever they are involved in the experiment of Archimedes principle as it requests an active visual role. Thus, it is very important to design a special tool for blind students so their practice of Archimedes principle become easier. This paper discusses a research finding which is an innovation of adaptive tools for blind students, such as beaker glass with Braille number, dynamometer with modification and Braille number (Braille Spring Balance) and recording lesson about Archimedes principle. This research done for students MTs LB / A Yaketunis Class VIII which aims at analyzing the quality of each tool by media experts, lesson experts, and physics teacher of MTs LB/A.This research is R & D with procedural models adapted from the development of the 4-D models, namely Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. According to media expert assessment, beaker glass with Braille number and Braille spring balance has a very good quality with percentage of their respective 100% of the ideal score, while the assessment by lesson experts for each tool have a good quality with percentage 80% and 73.33% of the ideal score, and physics teacher of MTs LB / A assessment for each tool have a very good quality with percentage 100%. According to the media and lesson experts, the recording lesson about Archimedes principle have a good quality with percentage 80% of the ideal score, according to physics teacher MTs LB / A, the recording tool has excellent quality either with percentage 91.82% of the ideal score. This research recommends the blinds students to utilize these innovative-adaptive tools which will enable them appropriately practice Archimedes principle as non-blind students.
