Abstract

During this period, wood has been widely used as Floating Net Cage (FNC) construction material. However, wood is often damaged due to the shear forces and bending moment. Therefore, it is necessary to look for an alternative material to replace it. This study aims to analyze the angle of steel as a substitute alternative of wood on the FNC construction. The research was conducted through two aspects of approach, the first is the technical aspects of construction (the buoyant force, shear forces, and bending moment) and the second aspect is the economic aspect (the costs of FNC). Research shows buoyancy due to changes mass of wooden construction = 10.263,77 kg and angles steel = 10.299,26 kg and to a slide and bending moment: for timber style sliding/shear forces = 121,06 kg and the bending moment  = 452,39  kg.m, steel and angles the sliding = 116,62 kg and bending moment = 442,40  kg.m. Based on the economic aspect, the cost of construction FNC, IDR 1.550.000, the angles of steel cheaper than the cost of construction with wood IDR 2.120.000. This result showed that the angles steel, based on the technical and the economic aspect, can be used as an alternative material for substitute of wood in FNC.

Abstract

One of the typical traditional products from the Riau Islands is “ikan tongkol asap”. These products are spread in several cities and regencies in the Riau Islands Province. Some areas that are famous for producing “ikan tongkol asap” traditionally are Natuna Regency, Bintan Regency and Tanjungpinang City. This study aims to determine the characteristics of “ikan tongkol asap” products based on the type of fish used, chemical composition, and organoleptic assessment. The research was conducted descriptively by taking samples of “ikan tongkol asap” products from several entrepreneurs on Bintan Island (Bintan and Tanjungpinang) and Bunguran Island (Natuna). The research stages were carried out by identifying the fish raw materials used for “ikan tongkol asap” products, morphometric analysis, organoleptic/sensory analysis, and proximate analysis of the product. In this study, it was found that the raw materials used for smoked fish were Thunnus tonggol, Auxis thazard, Euthynnus affinis, and Katsuwonus pelamis. Morphometrically, the fish used were 43.50-46.25 cm in length, and 1.25-1.85 kg in weight. In the sensory analysis with the parameters of appearance, aroma, taste, and texture, the overall products from the three regions were not significantly different. Based on the proximate analysis, each smoked fish product has its own value from each region with crude protein values ranging from 34.04-45.28%. The sensory and proximate are in accordance with the SNI 2723:2013, except for the moisture content of "ikan tongkol asap" E. affinis from Tanjungpinang City and T. tonggol from Bintan Regency.

Abstract

The construction of bridges and the Trans Papua Mameh-Bintuni road section of West Papua Province crosses rivers (Mothy-I Bridge), (Mothy-II Bridge), and (Yuki-II Bridge). The impact of this development is estimated to affect a decrease in river water quality and pollution. River water quality criteria are determined based on the pollution indicator. Water quality samples were taken from rivers directly affected by bridge construction activities and the Trans Papua Mameh-Bintuni road preservation. Water quality parameters and river water sampling refer to SNI 6989.57:2008. Water sampling was carried out after the construction activities were completed. The results showed that the water quality in the three rivers met the class II river water quality standards according to Government Regulation No. 22 of 2021. The Pollution Index of rivers (Mothy-I Bridge), rivers (Mothy II Bridge), and rivers (Yuki Bridge II) each has a Pollution Index value of 0.769; 0.816; and 0.770. This value describes the water quality in the three rivers in the excellent category, qualify environmental quality standards. Biological, chemical and physical indicators are in the natural concentration value, thus the bridge construction activities and the preservation of the Mameh-Bintuni road in West Papua Province that have been carried out do not have a negative impact on changes in river water quality.

Abstract

The economic value of sea cucumbers is high in the market and is similar to other fishery commodity products. The high economic value causes the fishing effort to increase. The level of fishing that is not balanced with the availability of resources can threaten the existence of the population. This study aims to examine the density, size distribution, distribution pattern, population presence and growth pattern of sea cucumbers in Letman waters. The sampling method is a random method. The sea cucumbers found at the research site consisted of 8 species with a density range of 0.04-0.24 ind/m2. The results of measurements of temperature, salinity and pH at the study site obtained temperatures ranging from 29-31°C, salinity ranging from 28-31‰ and pH ranging from 8.11-8.26. The length of the sea cucumbers ranges from 10.5-31.52 cm, the diameter size ranges from 3.00-10.03 cm and the weight size ranges from 51.5-611.09 gr. The distribution pattern of sea cucumbers is grouped with an Id value of 1.23. The existence of sea cucumbers showed a low diversity value (H' = 0.42), low uniformity (E = 0.234) and the dominance was classified as stable (C = 0.83). The growth pattern of sea cucumbers obtained a b value of 2.16 so that it is classified as negative allometric (b < 3).

Abstract

Fish is part of the diet which is a source of animal protein which is very beneficial for health. To meet the availability of fish-based food, it can be processed into various processed products, one of which is shredded fish. Shredded fish still has a drawback, such as the low fiber content. To enrich the fiber content of shredded fish, fortification with banana blossoms can be an alternative. The process of making shredded fish does not yet have a standard because many methods and spices are added, so there are variations in the types and amounts of spices used. This causes the quality of shredded fish to vary. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the chemical properties of the effect of different concentrations on banana blossoms fortification in the processing of shredded tuna. The research was conducted in June-August 2022 at the Fish Product Technology Laboratory and the Chemical Engineering Laboratory, Universitas Brawijaya. The study design was a non-factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The results were analyzed using ANOVA (α 5%) and Tukey's post hoc test. The results showed that banana blossoms fortification had no significant effect on the peroxide value and water content of shredded tuna. Banana blossoms fortification has a significant effect on the hedonic value of the appearance, taste, and texture of shredded tuna. However, it has no significant effect on the hedonic aroma value and overall acceptance. The value of the proximate composition of shredded tuna with the best treatment level was 70%, i.e. protein content of 14.51%, fat content of 36.19%, ash content of 6.82%, carbohydrate content of 29.15%, and total dietary fiber of 20.80%. The fat and protein content of shredded tuna does not meet the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) for shredded products.

Abstract

Microplastic pollution is a threat to marine ecosystems. Microplatics in coral reef ecosystems can pose a threat to coral reef health. This study aims to determine the  condition of coral reefs, and  the distribution of microplastics in the tourist area of Bokori island as a first step for conservation and mitigation from the impact of microplastic pollution.  Sampling wa carried out at 4 research stations. The environmental quality parameters measured were temperatur, dissolved oxygen, pH, salinity, water brightness, current, nitrate, and phosphate. Sampling using purposive sampling method. Sediment sampling using Scuba set and sediment grab at a depth of 3-10 meters. Sediment is taken ±1000 gr and stored in double zip lock plastic. The samples were the analyzed and observed using microplastics laboratory. The results showed that there are four types of microplastics found in sediments in the waters of the island of Bokori, namely fiber, foam, film, and fragments. Fiber is the most common type of microplastic with an average of 41.564 particles/kg dry sediment per aobservation station, while the lowest abundance was foam type with an average value of 9.379 particles/kg dry sediment. The abundance of microplastic at each sampling location was not the same due to the different characteristics of the study sites.
