Abstract

This evaluation was a case study of the bridging language program offered at YSU to KNB students, it evaluated the generations 2012/2013. The focus of this evaluation was to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the bridging program. This was a summative evaluation used the CIPP method. It was a pragmatic parallel mix-method design research. The analysis technique was descriptive for the qualitative data; and it was descriptive statistical for the quantitative data; Triangulation was used. 15 students, 6 teachers, 10 tutors, 3 administrators were involved. In each component of the evaluation strengths and weaknesses were found. The main strengths were: Clear cultural objectives, experience teachers, tutorials helped students a lot. The main weaknesses were: There is not clear criteria of the level to be reach, tutors lack training and time to prepare, material and assessment needs to be improve, students don’t reach an upper intermediate level of the language.

Abstract

This study aims to obtain a valid and reliable formative evaluation model of critical thinking. The method used in this research was the research and development by integrating Borg Gall's model and  Plomp's development model. The ten steps Borg Gall’s model were modified into five stages as the stages in the Plomp's model. The subjects in this study were 1,446 students of junior high schools in DIY, 14 mathematics teacher, and six experts. The content validity employed was expert judgment, the empirical validity and reliability used were loading factor, item analysis used PCM 1PL, and the relationship between disposition and critical thinking skill used was structural equation modeling (SEM). The developed formative evaluation model is the procedural model. There are five aspects of critical thinking skill: mathematic reasoning, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and inference, which entirely composed of 42 items. The validity of the critical thinking skill instruments achieves a significance degree as indicated by the lowest and the highest loading factors of 0.38 and 0.74 subsequently, the reliability of every aspect in a good category. The average level of difficulty is 0.00 with the standard deviation of 0.45 which is in a good category. The peer assessment questionnaire of critical thinking disposition consists of seven aspects: truth-seeking, open-minded, analysis, systematic, self-confidence, inquisitiveness, and maturity with 23 items. The critical thinking disposition validity achieves the significance degree as indicated by the lowest and the high factor loading of 0.66 and 0.76 subsequently, and the reliability of every aspect in a good category. Based on the analysis of the structural equation model, the model fits the data.

Abstract

The study was to test the learning effectiveness of program simulation method by using the trainer kit in Microcontroller System courses. The study was conducted to the students who took the microcontroller system courses in the academic year of 2013/2014. The students who took the course were divided into three groups and each of the group served as: (1) the experimental group; (2) control group; and (3) test instrument group. The learning outcome variables (Y2) and the awareness of thinkings (Y1) served as the dependent variable; on the other hand, the motivation (X1) and the creativity (X2) served as independent variables. The data analysis was done by performing the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and the Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) in order to see the differences in the learning outcomes and the level of students thinking. The results of the study showed that there have been significant differences in the level of metacognition and the level of learning outcomes competence on the program simulation method by using the trainer kit on microcontroller systems course  in comparison to those who were not using it.

Abstract

The article described the results of a study evaluating the performance of Technological and Vocational Education (TVE) by means of Malcolm Baldrige method. The data on the performance was used in order to know its excellence and weakness. Based on the performance excellence and weakness, a competitive strategy could be formulated in order to improve the TVE quality. First, performance measurements by means of Malcolm Baldrige criteria were done on seven study programs from different universities. Second, results of the performance measurements were analyzed and described. With the data resulting from the performance measurements as the basis of the analysis, the excellence and weakness of TVE performance might be found. Third, a strategy was developed. Based on the performance excellence and weakness, a performance improvement strategy might be formulated in order to raise the quality level within the educational process of TVE. The research results indicated that for the performance level the seven universities under measurement achieved scores ranging from 526 to 711 point. These results showed that the performance of study programs in TVE within Indonesia put these study programs into the categories of education leader and of emerging education leader. On the basis of those categories, each study program might formulate its own competitive strategy in order to improve the TVE performance so that the educational process being conducted might also improve in terms of quality level.

Abstract

The study was to test the effectiveness of the Web-Based Interactive Blended Learning Model (BLIBW) for subjects in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Padang State University. The design that the researcher employed was a quasi-experimental design with one group pretest-posttest, which was conducted on a group of students consisting of 30 people and the test was conducted for two times. The effectiveness of BLIBW Model was tested by comparing the average pretest scores and the average posttest scores both in the first trial and the second trial. The average prestest and posttest scores in the first trial were 14.13 and 33.80. The increase in the average score was significant at alpha 0.05. Then, the average pretest and posttest scores in the second trial were 18.67 and 47.03. The result was also significant at alpha 0.05. The effectiveness of BLIBW Model in the second trial was higher than in the first test. Those result were not entirely satisfactory and it might be caused several weaknesses in both tests such as: the number of sessions were limited, there was only one subject, and the number of students who were subjected too limited. However, the researcher would like to conclude that the BLIBW Model might be implemented as a replacement alternative for the face-to-face instruction.

Abstract

The aim of this study are (1) Developing an interactive multimedia with virtual laboratory in excretory system for senior high school students (2) determine the eligibility of digital multimedia of excretory system (3) determine the effectivity of digital learning using interactive multimedia to improve student’s achievement and student activities of excretory system. This research was conducted in senior high school in Indonesia at SMA 1 Jepon, Blora for 2 month. The research approach using Educational Research and development including: (1)research and information collecting (2)planning (3) develop a preliminary form of product (4) preliminary field testing, validation of media by experts. (5) main product revision, (6)field testing (7)operational product revision (8) operational field testing, (9) the final product revision. The results showed that digital media of excretory system with virtual lab is outstanding criteria (91.17%) based on 2 expert validation result. Then on prelimenary field testing, the students give outstanding criteria (84.38%), and operation field testing is 92.19%. Digital learning using interactive multimedia also improve student activities, students who achieve the active criteria is 90,63%. Based on the results of research and discussion, can be concluded that digital multimedia of excretory system is very eligible, get possitive response from students and teacher, and effective to improve student achievement and student activity as excretory system media in senior high school.

Abstract

This research seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of the English teaching program in senior high school: Case of SMAN3 Yogyakarta, grade eleven. This study was a summative case study using a mixed-method. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze quantitative data and qualitative data followed a descriptive analysis following the CIPP model. The informants were 43 students of SMAN3 and two English teachers. The context findings showed that program objectives, classroom condition, students’ needs and barriers were in effective category. In input component, it is found that both teachers were qualified and experienced. The teaching training was not enough; students’ textbooks and course designs were in effective category. The process component showed that teaching materials, teaching methods, teaching activities and assessments were in effective category. The product component showed that English marks, students’ needs and barriers were in effective category. However, the teaching materials were in ‘not effective’ category.
