Abstract

This Research on the diversity of Mangrove species in Pantai Mutiara Pari Village, Pantai Cermin Subdistrict, Serdang Bedagai Regency, North Sumatera Province was conducted in October s.d November 2012. The objective of this research is to know the diversity of species and mangrove vegetation based on growth level. The research method is explorative survey technique method. The sample collection for the research vegetation data consisted of observation plots with a total of 12 plots derived from 3 transects. The results of the study were 6 species of mangroves: Avicennia marina, Bruguiera sexangula, Rhizophora apiculata, Rhizophora stylosa, Rhizophora mucronata, and Nypa fruticans, belonging to 3 families namely Avicenniaceae, Rhizophoraceae, and Arecaceae. From the analysis, it is known that Avicennia marina, Rhizophora apiculata and Rhizophora stylosa species dominate the coastal area of Pantai Mutiara Desa Kota Pari Pantai Pantai Cermin. Based on the analysis of data obtained, the index of diversity (H ') of mangroves on the beach is low, ie the seedlings H' = 0.87, the H1 = 1,34 and the H '= 1.20. This indicates that the type of mangrove contained in the beach is small.

Abstract

Mothers who exclusively breastfed their babies from 2011-2015 tended to increase. However, in breastfeeding there are still many maternal understandings that are lacking about foremilk and hindmilk. Foremilk and hindmilk are related to the duration of the baby breastfeeding, if the baby has not been obtained in a balanced manner can cause problems in the pattern of defecation of infants especially those aged 1-6 months. The purpose of study was to determine the effect of foremilk and hindmilk balance with defecation patterns of infants who received exclusive. The study design was cross sectional, with total sample 30 mothers who had infants aged 1-6 months and exclusively. The results showed the majority (96.7%) frequency of defecation of infants 1-8 times, consistency of soft stool (96.7%) and yellow stool (93.3%). Out of 30 respondents 53.33% of mothers had a balance of foremilk and hindmilk while breastfeeding and 86.66% of infants had normal defecation patterns. Chi-square test results did not influence the balance of foremilk and hindmilk with the pattern of defecation  with 30 respondents surveyed. This shows that the balance of foremilk and hindmilk has not affected the pattern of infant defecation including frequency, consistency and color of feces.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the composition of secondary metabolites of crude extract “bawangbatak” (Allium  cinense) and anti-microbial properties of the extract against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. This research was conducted in three (3) stage, stage I  by the manufacturing of crude extract of garlic bulbs “bawangbatak”, Allium cinense, through maceration method using a solvent n-hexane and methanol. In stage II, screening fitokimia, that is identification of secondary metabolites (alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids and steroids) to the crude extract of tuber “bawangbatak”, Allium cinense, and phase III, test bioktifitas crude extract bulb of  “bawangbatak” Allium cinense in the form of extracts antimicrobial properties against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli extract using the concentration variation of 0%, 1%, 5%, 15%, 20%, and 25% and incubation at 370C for 24 hours. The results showed that secondary compounds was dominated by flavonoids, steroids, terpenoid and tannins. While at the test screening phytochemicals extra n-hexane showed no secondary metabolites, test bioktivitas against bacteria have inhibitory at a concentration of 15% with inhibition zone 14 mm in bacteria Escheriachia coli and 10 mm in bacteria Staphylococcus aureus this indicates onion extract  of “bawangbatak”  has the ability as an anti-microbial.

Abstract

Sangkuriang catfish (Clarias gariepinus var Sangkuriang) is the main commodity that widely cultivated in Tasikmalaya City. However, farmers have difficulty because of the disease which causes death in fish. High mortality is suspected as a vibriosis disease by genus Vibrio because redness wounds on dead fish. The purpose of this study is to know the genus Vibrio which causes of disease in Sangkuriang catfish. 10 samples of fish were taken from Sangkuriang catfish pond culture in Kelurahan Kersanagara Tasikmalaya City which were potentially suspected of vibriosis disease. Isolation of bacteria were done on TCBS medium. Bacterial isolates were collected from fish lesion on the body surface, liver, and kidneys of catfish. Isolation were able to gained 21 isolates and then 5 isolates (VK1, VK5, VK7, VK17, and VK21) were selected based on colony morphology and Postulates Koch’s were tested. The results showed that the clinical symptoms of catfish infected by vibriosis were redness lesions/ulcers on the body surface, hemorrhagic, fluid inside stomach, and fin eroded with redness wound. Bacterial identification through biochemical test revealed the causative agent of catfish disease at brackish pond area were bacteria of the genus Vibrio (VK 1, VK 5, and VK 7), Vibrio vulnificus (VK 17 and VK 21).

Abstract

This research objective is to identify the effects of wungu leaf extract (Graptophyllum pictum L. Griff) on the fertility index and spermatozoa of normal morphology in male rat ( Rattus novergicus.L). Fifteen male and 45 female rats of 9 to 10 weeks old were used as research samples. The fifteen male rats were divided into five treatment groups of wungu extract dosage: control I (0mg/KgBW), control II (0.5ml olive oil), dosage 1 (100mg/KgBW), dosage 2 (200mg/KgBW), and dosage 3 (400mg/KgBW) for 60 days. The extract was given orally and each group consisted of three test rats as repetition. On the day 55 to day 60, each test male animal was mated with three female rats. After 60 days, an observation was done to 15 male and 45 female rats to identify fertility index. Normal spermatozoa morphological observation with microscope. The data obtained were tested by Analysis of Variance Test (ANOVA ? = 0.05) and Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT). Based on the observation and statistical analysis, it was found that wungu leaf extract of different dosages did not give significant effects on fertility index but have significant effects on spermatozoa of normal morphology. This was proven by the fact that the higher the dosage given, the worse the spermatozoa of normal morphology. Based on Linear Regression Analysis, it was found significant correlation between dosage variation extract of wungu leaf and fertility index, and number of normal spermatozoa.
