Abstract

AbstractIn the past, women were limited in their social mobility, which is reflected in various religious jurisprudence texts, incnluding fiqh books specifically written for women. Although these women's fiqh books are considered classic, studies show that they are still the primary references for studying women's fiqh. This research aims to reveal the image of women as depicted by writers of classical women's fiqh books, using semiotic analysis methods. The research question is, what image of women is portrayed by writers of classical women's fiqh books in their works? . The results of the research indicate that the image of women in the classical women's Fiqh book, Risalatul Makhid, depicts the role of women as still normative, which means that women play a major role in the family, as well as being responsible for domestic work. In contrast, Masailun Nisa's book portrays women in a more substantive and prestigious role, allowing them to study and work, and occupy strategic positions in society. However, normative roles are still considered the main role for women. The contribution of this research is to prove the hypothesis that women are still seen as domestic creatures in Islamic boarding school (pesantren) books. Therefore, when teaching students, it is recommended to accompany classical fiqh books with contemporary fiqh discourse that is more humanistic towards women.

Abstract

Islamic theology is the main doctrine of belief centered on tauhid (the Oneness of God) and forms the foundation of the life of Muslims. The principle of tauhid establishes a framework of relations among nations based on brotherhood which is the essence of true religious life. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the influence of belief on Muslims' moderate attitude using a correlational survey approach. The statistical population consisted of 2250 students from Islamic Religious Universities (PTKI) in Pekalongan, who have taken the Religious Moderation course. The sample was determined using the accidental sampling technique with 289 students participating as respondents. Data were collected through a psychological scale and analyzed using simple regression analysis. The results showed that belief positively influenced the moderate attitudes of Muslims, accounting for 39.1% of the variance. This study provided a new perspective on Islamic moderation and the influencing factors, emphasizing a comprehensive understanding of Islamic Theology and the implications for attitudes and behaviors of Muslims. It also underscored the importance of internalizing the principles and values of Islamic moderation into da'wah and education. Beyond theoretical insights, the study offered practical guidance for policymakers in designing interventions to address the threats of radicalism and extremism.

Abstract

This article examines the ṣiḥḥaḥ of marriage, still practiced by the Rifa'iyah community. The implementation of ṣiḥḥaḥ begins with negotiations between families and religious leaders, the selection of guardians, and the appointment of marriage witnesses. In addition, the bride-to-be learns the sciences of marriage, the improvement of two sentences of shahada. This research uses an ethnographic approach, focusing on the Jema'ah and Kyai Rifa'iyah. Data were collected in the field through observations, interviews with relevant parties, including the kyai (Rifa'iyah religious leader) and congregations, and documentation. Data analysis is an interactive process, namely data reduction, data display, and data verification. The research shows that the practice of ṣiḥḥaḥ until now is one of the efforts to preserve Tradition in the Rifa'iyah congregation, and its meaning has undergone a shift - from syari'ah – the ratification of the previous marriage akad – to berkah – hoping for blessings from the kyai, especially Rifa'iyah.

Abstract

Prophet Muhammad SAW is known as a plenary figure who succeeded in transforming the pluralistic society of Medina into a harmonious and just community. This success is inseparable from his educational strategy that utilizes spiritual, social, and intellectual capital. This research uses a qualitative approach with a literature study method. Data sources were obtained from books of the Prophetic Sirah, hadith, and contemporary academic literature. The analysis was done thematically to identify the principles and educational strategies used by the Prophet in the social context of Medina. The research found that the Prophet Muhammad's educational strategy was rooted in the values of compassion, wisdom, and dialog. These strategies established a peaceful and inclusive social order. These values remain relevant to be applied in addressing contemporary social challenges, such as intolerance, identity crisis, and social fragmentation. This finding confirms the importance of actualizing mercy-based education in building a civilized society.

Abstract

This study investigates the Ottoman Empire’s substantial contribution to Acehnese development during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, emphasizing how strategic alliances, military expertise, and technological transfers enabled Aceh to resist Portuguese expansion and establish itself as a leading maritime power in Southeast Asia. Utilizing correspondence and historical records from both Acehnese and Ottoman sources, the research identifies key areas of collaboration, including the establishment of military academies, weapons production, and warship construction. In addition to military cooperation, the study underscores the Ottoman Empire’s influence on Aceh’s intellectual and governmental spheres through the involvement of Ottoman-trained scholars in the Aceh Sultanate, the adoption of administrative practices, and the enhancement of Aceh’s political legitimacy as an Islamic sultanate. Employing a historical–analytical methodology, the study draws on primary sources such as De Hikajat Atjeh, Adat Aceh, Hikayat Meukuta Alam, Ottoman imperial archives, and European travel narratives. The findings demonstrate that the Ottoman Empire played a significant role in transforming Aceh into a prominent military and intellectual center. This partnership consolidated Aceh’s maritime supremacy, reinforced its governmental structures, and protected its sovereignty. The Ottoman–Aceh alliance exemplifies broader patterns of cross-cultural exchange within the Islamic world and highlights the geopolitical significance of such strategic relationships.
