This approach provides new alternatives for regional development strategies and opens up new opportunities for transforming and adapting innovation to tackle poverty holistically and sustainably. This research aims to restructure innovation architecture and examine its potential to transform regions in poverty alleviation efforts. The study employs a qualitative research method with a literature review analysis. It explores novel approaches for developing a solution-oriented and applicable analysis and recommendations for communities. Additionally, the research analyzes several regions that have successfully implemented regional innovation and reduced local poverty levels. Data is collected through a literature search strongly relevant to the research objectives. The findings indicate that innovation architecture can drive regional transformation in poverty alleviation through 1) Enhancing collaboration and synergy among stakeholders, 2) Creating a conducive innovation ecosystem, and 3) Developing contextual and sustainable innovative solutions. These findings demonstrate the substantial potential of innovation architecture in transforming regions to achieve poverty alleviation. This aligns with existing theories emphasizing stakeholder collaboration and synergy as key factors in creating effective, innovative solutions. Abstract

This study examines the customary elites' role in the local socio-political landscape in Lampung, Indonesia. The problem is that so far, the role of customary elites is often ignored in regional development, where they only become political symbols and are used for local political interests in the region. In this case study, customary elites attempt to manage their adat communities so that they make positive contributions to society. Adat still has a significant influence and plays an important role in the daily lives of the Lampung people. However, this is not just community-level regulation or customary law; it also has important cultural and social significance for the nation. This study uses qualitative research methods and an ethnographic approach. Data was collected through in-depth interviews and participant observation with analysis using data reduction, verification, data display, and data triangulation. The result showed that adat helps form and maintain social ties among local communities, contributing to government development programs and administrative changes. In the adat government, traditional elites also represent their adat communities. Adat shows flexibility towards change while preserving local wisdom and contributing to regional development. Customary elites and adat communities have great influence in society, and they are valued and respected by their collective members. Their role should be maximized by local governments in regional development because one of the keys to successful development is utilizing local wisdom because local wisdom is the element that is most adaptable and flexible in change.

Abstract

Effective city solid waste management has become a critical issue for communities globally due to the rapid pace of urbanization and increasing environmental concerns. The convergence of economic development and environmental preservation in Batam City, Indonesia, has underscored the necessity for inventive waste management approaches. This study examines the impact of dynamic governance and community empowerment in addressing the intricate waste issue in Batam City. The research uses a qualitative approach to investigate the underlying reasons for waste management difficulties. It investigates how adaptive governance might improve stakeholder cooperation and decision-making based on facts. Effective policy implementation relies on public interaction, yet meaningful participation remains difficult. Prior research suggests that individuals are more inclined to engage in matters that directly impact them, and ambiguous implementation protocols and a lack of confidence in political establishments frequently hinder community engagement in environmental policy. The waste management techniques in Batam City are conventional and inefficient due to limited government resources, highlighting the necessity for a more comprehensive strategy. The study’s results indicate that implementing dynamic governance, which involves the flexibility to adapt and collaborate with stakeholders, can enhance waste management procedures. In addition, applying social capital theory can facilitate community empowerment, leading to a heightened sense of ownership and active engagement in waste management initiatives. Communities can enhance the effectiveness and durability of waste management systems by utilizing social networks, trust, and shared standards. This study emphasizes the significance of integrating inventive governance approaches with community-led efforts to tackle urban trash issues and advance sustainable development in Batam City.

Abstract

The establishment of Joint Village-Owned Enterprises (Joint-BUMDes) presents an opportunity to create a collaborative network among villages, addressing the challenge of hindered business growth commonly faced by single-village enterprises. Therefore, this research aims to explore and analyze key enablers of Joint-BUMDes development using an interpretive structural modeling (ISM) approach and provide strategic recommendations for their growth. Based on literature review and semi-structured interviews with 8 informants, nine enablers were identified. These served as the basis for constructing a questionnaire distributed to three respondents who were purposely selected to establish contextual relationships. The ISM analysis prioritized interventions based on enablers located in Quadrant III and IV from the MICMAC analysis and the highest levels in the ISM interaction model. Key enablers include the village chief's political influence, managerial and technical skills, and leadership characteristics, as well as government support, equality in capabilities among villages, and the founding initiative. The conclusion drawn is that political and management factors predict the success of Joint-BUMDes and influence other factors. Therefore, addressing these enablers is crucial for the successful development of Joint-BUMDes in Indonesia. Apart from these practical implications, this study enriches the literature on social enterprises in Indonesia, which has thus far been limited to single village BUMDes and fragmented in analyzing influencing factors.
