Abstract

Finishing the project are the main task for last semester students in Polytechnic. They do the project in order finishing the syllabus without any improving skills for their future work in industry. The common educational system has improved the quantity of graduate but not the quality. Many industrial department dissatisfied with the workforce less of soft skills although they have enough hardskills in their field. Technical and vocational education has given an opportunity for students to develop their interested in technical and vocational program. Project Based Learning (PjBL) is one the various learning based on student oriented learning. Project-Based Learning is a student-centered learning approach based on the principles of constructivism to enhance students’ learning and creativity by solving a real-world problem. The purpose of this study was to asses the project management system by using Project-Based Learning. This study was held at Mechanical Engineering department at Polytechnic Kota Bharu, Malaysia. We used a set of questionnaire and observation into this research. We found Project-Based Learning are suitable for student project management. PjBL has improve students softskill such as communication skills, work in team, solving problem and creative. Futher application of this study will lead to the development of Project-Based Learning implement in other institution to improve student management project.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of Project-Based Learning in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the Polytechnic in Malaysia. This study was designed with Context, Input, Process and Product (CIPP) model. Project-Based Learning is a different approach than the traditional learning in the sense that it is a student-centered learning approach based on the principles of constructivism. This study involved a random sample of 118 students and 43 supervisors in the Mechanical Engineering Department in Polytechnic Kota Bharu Malaysia. The instrument used in this study were a set of questionnaire. In terms of finding ideas, both students and supervisors agreed that students were encouraged to assess the real problem by their supervisors. However, the supervisors were uncertain whether the students went to the library to get the ideas for their project. In addition, the supervisors were barely agreed about the creativity of the students in finding the project ideas. However, students and their supervisors believed that critical thinking and creativity were needed in the Project-Based Learning. The respondents also believed that e-SOLMS helped the students to work in group to complete the project.

Abstract

Peralatan sistem tenaga seperti transformator daya memiliki umur desain yang ditentukan oleh oleh perusahaan manufaktur sehingga dapat beroperasi dalam kurun waktu tertentu. Namun sejalan dengan pemakaiannya dilapangan, umur transformator daya tersebut dapat berkurang atau bertambah dari umur desainnya. Paper ini mempaparkan perhitungan sisa umur transformator tua (aging) menggunakan pendekatan Arrhenius yang didasari oleh temperatur saat pemeriksaan lapangan dari beberapa kali inspeksi pada tahun 1982, 2013, dan 2014. Transformator yang diukur dalam studi ini memiliki rating 30 MVA dan digunakan pada lingkungan kilang gas alam cair. Berdasarkan perhitungan yang telah dilakukan, diketahui bahwa transformator tersebut masih layak untuk dioperasikan hingga 17,8 tahun lagi dengan mengikuti syarat dan ketentuan yang berlaku. Sebagai pendukung keputusan, pemeriksaan eksternal secara visual dan pengukuran earth grounding juga dilakukan. Kata kunci:

Abstract

Realization of Activities of General, Human Resources and Education Directorate of Dr. M. Jamil Hospital to structuring position in compliance with competence requirements still low (25%), There is difficult to decide candidate whom eligible for the post in accordance with the competency, because they execute the structuring manually. One way out to reduce obstacles and to overcome this problem is using decision support system with AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process). This method can help leaders to conduct the election candidates objectively, based multi criteria set. This research is a design engineering, built by attention to the feedback from users. Start from the planning, searching of data, analyzing, and designing using Object Oriented Design (OOD), tools to analysis by Data Flow Diagrams (DFD) , coding and subsystems that are designed last three combined into a DSS . In the construction phase, the author makes the design of the program by using the Visual Studio 6.0 with Microsoft Access database. The item is the reference of the election candidates, namely: education, rank, leadership training, office history, technical training, age, health, discipline/punishment, dedication/appreciation and courses.

Abstract

Penelitian tentang penggunaan metode electroplatting koagulasi untuk menurunkan konsentrasi logam Zn dalam air limbah industri karet telah dilakukan. Limbah yang digunakan memiliki karakteristik kontaminan Zn 1.2771 mg/L. Percobaan dilakukan dengan tegangan listrik 12 Volt, kuat arus 10 A, variasi waktu 0, 15, 30, 45, sampai 60 menit, variasi pH limbah 4, 7,dan 8, karakteristik plat elektroda dengan panjang 10 cm, lebar 2 cm dan ketebalan 0,5 mm, serta volume sampel sebanyak 1 liter dalam keadaan statis. Analisis Zn pada hasil akhir digunakan Spektrofotometer Serapan Atom (SSA). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan penurunan konsentrasi logam Zn pada pH 7 dengan waktu kontak 60 menit, yakni sebesar 99,56 %. Kata Kunci: electroplatting, koagulasi, zinkum, limbah, industri karet.

Abstract

Energy needs in Indonesia in particular and the world in general continue to rise due to population growth, economic growth and energy consumption patterns themselves are constantly increasing. One of the fast growing renewable energy in the world today is wind energy. Wind energy is a renewable energy that is very flexible. In general, the utilization of wind power in Indonesia is less attention. Until 2004, the installed capacity of wind power utilization is only up to 0.5 MW from 9:29 GW potential. One method used to measure the wind energy potential of wind energy for electricity generation is by using the Weibull method. From the analysis that has been carried out by the method of Weibull can be concluded that the wind energy potential of wind energy for electricity generation in Banda Aceh does not meet the eligibility criteria.

Abstract

Electronics devices need a direct current power supply although now only one alternating current power supply is available. Therefore, ac-dc converters which can convert an alternating current power supply to a direct current power supply will be needed. However, the use of this ac-dc converters will cause distortion in the form of current waves which are called harmonics. This harmonics can fault the work of the other electric devices which are attached to the same power source. Therefore, it is recommended that the harmonics generated by rectifiers should be under IEC 61000-3-2 standard. In this research will the reduction of harmonics by using LCL filter. At load of 2 kW, R of 5 , L of 0,05 H at PWM rectifiers single phase full bridge with RL load produce the third harmonics current of 2.57 amperes, the installed LCL filter produces the third harmonics current of 1.26 amperes. According to IEC-61000-3-2 standard, the allowed third harmonics current is 2.3 amperes.

Abstract

In learning something well, we need to listen, look and ask the question about it and discuss it with others. Not only that, students need to “do” it, such as by describing something with their own ways, showing the examples, trying to apply the skills and doing the tasks which need the acquired knowledge. The problems examined in this study were (a) How is the increase of students’ achievement by using the inquiry based instruction? (b) How is the influence of the inquiry based instruction towards students’ motivation? The purposes of this study were (a) to determine students’ understanding and achievement in Natural Sciences subject after conducting the inquiry based instruction, (b) to determine the influence on students’ motivation by using the inquiry based instruction. The three-cycle class room action research design was used in this study. Each cycle consists of four stages namely: planning, observing, reflection and revision.The subject in this research was students of Class VII.3 of SMP Negeri 2 Peusangan. The data obtained were formative test results and the observation sheets of teaching-learning activities. Based on the findings, it can be seen that students’ achievement increased from cycle I (65%) to cycle II (91 %). The conclusion of this study was the inquiry basedinstructionpositively influenced students’ motivation of Class VII.3 of SMP Negeri 2 Peusangan. In addition, the inquiry basedinstruction can be used as one of alternative learning methods in Natural Sciences. Kata Kunci: prestasi belajar, model inkuiri.

Abstract

HAPS (High Altitude Platform Station), the infrastructure that is made to change BTS/BS, it could be one of solution to reduce cost and capacity problem. HAPS is like airship or aircraft that is placed on stratosphere line, the distance of platform is 17-22 km from earth surface. Because of that position, it’s affected by wind gusting, so that HAPS’s position can change from normal state that is called Platform Displacement. This research explain about the impacted of platform displacement to mobile station (MS) during HO process which is measured delay HO value. User is mobile wimax user who is doing communication using VoIP. Platform will be simulated in some position, horizontal position and vertical position, than MS moves on some speed, first, in medium speed is 50 Km/hour and 80 Km/hour, second high speed is 120 km/hour dan 200 km/hour. When platfor moves to the higher position will increase the coverage of cells, so each cell will interfere their neighbor. The effect of changing it position is perceived by user in transition area, this condition can disturb the HO process.

Abstract

Department of Electrical Installation Engineering at SMKN 2 Peureulak is part of educational institutions that graduated the expertise and creativity students. Competencies obtained by students who tailored to industry-based curriculum criteria. Thus, they have ready-made expertise through the learning process. Learning tools or media used in the learning process were the important role to achieve the learning objectives. Therefore, the learning media used is very influential on the intensity of learners on the subject matter. Trainers are designed to implement a modular concept that each component is made separately, equipped with component names, symbols and manuals of use so that it can easily be introduced to components, use and facilitate understanding of the concept of electromagnetic control installed. The design and manufacture of this trainer through several stages of the material and information gathering stage, the design of each component module, the design of sliding frames and storage boxes, tool making, tool testing and the last manual book making. There are three steps to determine the eligibility of the electromagnetic control trainers, namely (1) the manufacture of electromagnetic control trainers (2) the trainer feasibility test (3) product testing. In this study, the respondents are 3 teachers and 23 students technical expertise program electrical installation in SMK Negeri 2 Peureulak. Research instrument used in the form of questionnaire of media feasibility test, student response questionnaire and observation sheet. The results showed that the electromagnetic control trainer that has been developed feasible to be used as instructional media of electromagnetic control in electrical engineering skill program at SMKN 2 Peureulak. The achievement of feasibility of trainer was performed from the result of feasibility analysis by expert team which get the percentage of 81% with good category, and the result of student response to the electromagnetic control trainer get the percentage of 87% with very good category. There was a significant difference between the learners' learning outcomes between before and after using trainers, where the average practice value before using the trainer was 77.81 and after trainer use increased to 82.30.
