Abstract

Plankton communities play a crucial role in marine ecosystems and are widely used as bioindicators of environmental quality. This study aimed to map plankton community structure in several coastal waters of North Sulawesi and evaluate their potential as indicators of marine ecosystem health. Plankton samples were collected from Bunaken, Lembeh Strait, Amurang, Belang, and Likupang using standard plankton net tows. Community structure was analyzed using species composition, abundance, Shannon–Wiener diversity index (H′), evenness (E), and dominance (D). The results showed clear spatial variation in plankton community structure among study sites. Higher diversity values were recorded in Bunaken (H′ = 2.78; E = 0.81; D = 0.18) and Lembeh Strait (H′ = 2.65; E = 0.79; D = 0.21), indicating relatively stable marine conditions. In contrast, Likupang exhibited lower diversity and higher dominance (H′ = 1.43; E = 0.52; D = 0.39), suggesting greater environmental stress. These patterns demonstrate that plankton community indices are sensitive indicators of ecosystem condition in tropical coastal waters. The findings also highlight the potential use of plankton ecological data as contextual learning resources in science education, particularly for teaching marine ecosystem dynamics, biodiversity, and environmental monitoring using real environmental datasets from local coastal ecosystems

Abstract

This study examines the beliefs and attitudes of high school mathematics teachers toward TPACK-oriented technology integration through the development of interactive teaching materials using Genially in Pesisir Selatan Regency. TPACK orientation is positioned as the foundation for integrating technological knowledge and mathematical content knowledge in the development of digital teaching materials. The study used a survey method with twenty mathematics teachers as participants. Data were collected through belief questionnaires, attitude questionnaires, and structured interviews to explain the reasons behind the questionnaire responses. Belief indicators include teachers' views on learning and knowledge for learning related to technology engagement. Attitude indicators include familiarity, interest, efforts to seek help when experiencing difficulties with features, and the desire to use Genially to support students' mathematical problem-solving during learning. The results showed very high acceptance of the use of technology, especially the Genially application (94–95% agreement on key indicators). Interviews confirmed that Genially's visual interactivity helps teachers explain abstract concepts and relate the material to real-life contexts, but internet stability and initial design time remain obstacles. These findings support Quality Education (SDG 4) by strengthening teachers' readiness to integrate technology in mathematics learning.

Abstract

The phenomena and problems associated with various control strategies require solutions and answers to ensure control techniques through a deep understanding of the phenotypic appearance and behavior of target pests. The objectives of this study were: (1) to determine the oviposition preference patterns of female Crocidolomia pavonana Zell. on several types of vegetable plants from the Brassicaceae family, (2) to analyze the differences in the number of eggs laid by C. pavonana on each host plant tested, including determining the most preferred plant for oviposition. The study was conducted in a laboratory using a Latin Square Design (LSD), with 3 treatments and 3 replicates. The sample consisted of 15 pairs of adult insects (moths),placed in the cage. Each cage contain 5 pairs of moths in the same age and three types of host plants; mustard greens, mostar, and Chinese cabbage, with 5 pairs of imagoes placed in each cage. The results showed that   oviposition preferences of C. pavonana influenced by the type of host plant, with mustard and cabbage tending to be preferred over Chinese cabbage. There were differences in the average number of eggs laid by female C. pavonana, namely on mustard greens (33.2 eggs), mostar (45.2 eggs), and Chinese cabbage (38.2 eggs).

Abstract

Optimization of purple pakcoi vegetable cultivation can be done through the management of environmental factors such as shade and watering intervals. This study aims to determine the effect of shade and watering intervals on the growth and yield of purple pakcoi. The experiment used a split-plot design with two factors. The main plot consisted of: N0 (no shade), N1 (50% shade), and N2 (75% shade). The subplots consisted of: P1 (watering every day), P2 (watering every 2 days), and P3 (watering every 3 days). The variables observed were: plant height, number of leaves, fresh shoot weight, dry shoot weight, fresh root weight, dry root weight, shoot-root ratio, and SPAD value. The results showed that the highest average values ​​of each variable were: plant height 34,55 cm; number of leaves 10; fresh shoot weight 96 g; dry shoot weight 3,7 g; fresh root weight 2,4 g; dry root weight 0,32 g; shoot-root ratio 14%; and a SPAD value of 38. Plants grown under 75% shade showed good tolerance to reduced light intensity. These findings suggest that purple pakcoi has the potential to be cultivated in confined urban areas and as an intercrop to improve land use efficiency.

Abstract

In today's era of digital transformation and global uncertainty, education is no longer simply about transferring knowledge, but rather about equipping students with 21st-century competencies. One of the most crucial competencies is critical thinking skills. This ability enables students to objectively analyze information, evaluate arguments, and formulate creative solutions to complex problems. This study aims to determine the effect of deep learning on the critical thinking skills of eighth-grade students at UPT SMPN 2 Mangarabombang Takalar. This study used a quantitative quasi-experimental method using a non-equivalent control group design. The study population included all eighth-grade students at UPT SMPN 2 Mangarabombang. A simple sampling technique was used, selecting 23 students from class VIII B as the experimental class with deep learning and 23 students from class VIII C as the control class with conventional learning. The instruments used included a learning activity observation sheet and a critical thinking skills test based on Robert Ennis's indicators. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The t-test results for critical thinking skills showed a significance value of 0.01, which is less than α = 0.05. The results of this study concluded that there was an influence of in-depth learning on the critical thinking skills of class VIII students at UPT SMPN 2 Mangarabombang Takalar.

Abstract

The important to understand Covid-19 as terminology is to build knowledge exchange and dissemination of scientific discoveries. This research is based on a qualitative-descriptive methodology. This research was conducted at Samudra University in the biology education study program. All respondents will be given a test to determine their understanding of Covid-19 terminology taken from data sources in the ministry's PASTI application. The test is a question related to the definition in the realm of translation of 10 terminologies that were randomly selected on the PASTI application. In general, this study yielded positive results, where respondents' understanding of the terminology related to Covid-19 via the PASTI application as an effort to preserve knowledge about Covid-19 was of high accuracy and the respondents' character was highly motivated to understand. The high accuracy rate, with 100% correct answers from 84 respondents, covered the terminology of Coronavirus, New Normal, Pandemic, and Work From Home. Thus, the research's overall contribution to science education and scientific literacy has a positive impact, helping to maintain accurate knowledge of COVID-19 and motivate the younger generation to understand.

Abstract

Learning Programming Algorithms, which are abstract, logical, and sequential in nature, often pose challenges for students in understanding concepts optimally. In addition, the use of learning media that does not align with students’ needs becomes an essential factor affecting the success of the learning process. This study aims to analyze the needs for developing gamified multimedia integrated with an AI Chatbot in Programming Algorithm materials that are relevant to students’ learning needs. The research method employs a quantitative descriptive approach through questionnaires distributed to 11th-grade students and teachers at SMAN 1 Sembawa, SMAN 2 Sembawa, SMAN 1 Banyuasin III, and SMAN 2 Plus Banyuasin III. Data analysis was conducted by calculating the percentage of needs based on four aspects: students, teachers, learning media, and instructional design. The results show that the needs of students, teachers, learning media, and instructional design fall into a high category, with percentages of student needs (85.78%), teacher needs (91.85%), learning media needs (89.23%), and instructional needs (80.52%). These findings emphasize the necessity of developing interactive and adaptive learning media. Overall, the development of gamified multimedia integrated with an AI Chatbot is considered an appropriate alternative to address these needs, as it can provide instant feedback through the AI chatbot and enhance student engagement through gamification. This media is expected to help students understand abstract concepts in Programming Algorithms, increase motivation and engagement, and promote more meaningful learning.
