Abstract

Pasak bumi is popular as an aphrodisiac in the traditional medical herb. Boiled drink water of the root powder of pasak bumi is believed can increase the secondary reproduction characters such as libido and the duration of erection. This article is part of the research report that focus on: the distribution of hypophysis acidophil and basophil cells caused of the pasak bumi optimal dose treatment. Research carried out in an experiment using Hemaktosilin Eosin(HE) staining method to study micromorphological distribution of the acidophil and basophil cells of the male rat hypophysis after pasak bumi treatment (the dose of 18 mg pasak bumi/200 g body weight during three days, and the control of 1 ml aquadest). Result of the research showed that: Basophyl cells increased significantly in the third days of pasak bumi administered. Meanwhile acidophyl cells decreased in the third days of pasak bumi administered.

Abstract

Farmers group is lead by a farmer leader that was expected to improve a dynamic of group activities. The farmer leader has significant role in ensuring the relationship between farmers in relation to the information sharing of the agricultural innovation. This study was aimed to examine the leadership role of the farmer leaders in the process of technology diffusion namely PTT Paddy, an innovation that was currently being introduced. An explanatory research design was chosen to describe the phenomenon of the leadership role of farmer leaders that was evaluated by other farmers. The research was conducted in the subdistrict Carenang, Serang, Banten. Forty participants in successfull farmer groups were selected to evaluate farmer leadership characteristics. The results showed that the farmer leaders have been helping the group to achieve goals, improving communication, increasing the motivation of the farmers, facilitating the farming infrastructure, and solving problems. The role of the farmer leaders as bridging agent in communication is categorized satisfactory. This role is effectively used in the process of the innovation dissemination of PTT Paddy to the farmers. Kelompok tani dipimpin oleh seorang kontak tani yang diharapkan dapat meningkatkan dinamika kegiatan kelompok. Kontak tani memiliki peran penting dalam memastikan hubungan antara petani dengan berbagi informasi mengenai inovasi pertanian. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti peran kontak tani dalam proses difusi teknologi yaitu Pengelolaan Tanaman dan Sumberdaya Terpadu (PTT) Padi, sebuah inovasi yang saat ini sedang diperkenalkan. Desain penelitian adalah eksplanatory research dipilih untuk menggambarkan fenomena peran kontak tani yang dievaluasi oleh petani lain. Penelitian dilakukan di Kecamatan Carenang, Serang, Banten. Empat puluh peserta dalam kelompok tani terpilih untuk mengevaluasi karakteristik kontak tani. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kontak tani telah membantu kelompok untuk mencapai tujuan, meningkatkan komunikasi, meningkatkan motivasi petani, memfasilitasi infrastruktur pertanian, dan memecahkan masalah. Peran kontak tani sebagai agen penghubung dalam komunikasi dikategorikan memuaskan. Peran ini efektif digunakan dalam proses penyebaran inovasi PTT padi ke petani.

Abstract

The use of arbuscular mycorrhizal (MA) in various studies proves that it can save up to 50% fertilizer because the MA can help absorpt nutrients, especially P. In addition, the MA can help plant resistance, pest attacks and can help plants cope with extreme circumstances, such as drought, high salinity, toxic materials and heavy metals. The study aimed to test the potential of arbuscular Mycorrhizal isolates (Glomus geosporum) in cucumbers. The test of its potentials is still in the early stages of laboratory scales due to the limitation of producing the isolates. The test parameters were as follows: the number of leaves, the number of male and female flowers, fruit length, fruit diameters and fruit weights. The results showed that mycorrhizal (Glomus geosporum) being tested + 50% NPK, compared with mycorrhizae from a proven institution + 50% of the recommended NPK fertilizers (NPK 100%), have no significant differences in all parameters. As a result of this, Isolates Glomus geosporum can save less than 50% of the recommended NPK in cucumber crop (Cucumis sativus L.). This therefore has a potential to be field-tested involving other plants. Penggunaan mikoriza arbuskula (MA) dalam berbagai penelitian sudah terbukti dapat menghemat pupuk sampai 50%, karena MA dapat membantu penyerapan unsur hara terutama P. Selain itu, MA dapat membantu resistensi tanaman, serangan hama penyakit dan dapat membantu tanaman mengatasi keadaan ekstrim, seperti kekeringan, salinitas tinggi, bahan toksik dan logam berat. Penelitian ini bertujuan menguji potensi isolat Mikoriza arbuskula (Glomusgeosporum) pada tanaman mentimun. Pengujian isolat Mikoriza arbuskula (Glomusgeosporum) masih dalam taraf skala laboratorium, karena keterbatasan isolat yang dihasilkan. Parameter yang diuji adalah jumlah daun, jumlah bunga jantan dan betina, panjang buah, diameter buah, dan bobot buah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mikoriza (Glomusgeosporum) yang diuji + 50% NPK dibandingkan dengan mikoriza dari suatu institusi yang telah teruji + 50% NPK dan pupuk yang direkomendasikan (NPK 100%), terlihat tidak berbeda nyata pada semua parameter. Dengan demikian, Isolat Glomusgeosporum dapat menghemat pupuk NPK sampai 50% dari NPK yang dianjurkan pada tanaman Mentimun (Cucumissativus L.), sehingga cukup berpotensi untuk diuji pada skala lapangan bagi tanaman mentimun.

Abstract

Sodium (Na) was found as one of chemical elements that able to disturb plants that grow along the Cikijing river. This river water that had been detected as contains high sodium, whereas the river water is still used by local farmers to irrigate their rice fields. The aim of this research are to identify the effect of bleaching process on the Na polluted soils toward the plant growth. Experiment was conducted in a greenhouse using rice field soils that contains high Na as the experiment material. The soils were washed using deepwater well and filtered water. Filtering was processed using zeolit and white sand, whereas rice plants were used as indicator. Result show that bleaching with deep water well and filtered water are both able to reduce the contain on Na in the soils. The application of deep well water and filtered water has shown a significant influence toward the height of the rice plants and the number of productive rice buds. The rice plants irrigated by deep water well are seen as higher in growth and bigger in number of productive rice buds compare to rice plants watered with filtered irrigation. The length (height) of plant watered with deep water well (99.1 cm) was significantly different with rice plants watered with filtered water (80.8 cm). On the other hand, the average number of 36 productive rice buds watered with deep water well is significantly different with rice plants watered by filtered water in the number of 23.

Abstract

Research was done in Segara Anakan water lagoon, Cilacap District, Central Java, from September 2003 to November 2003. Samples of mangrove crab were taken using catching tool of wadong and pintur which setted in the afternoon and unsetted the next morning. From all samples collected, there were 55 male and 113 female crabs. The width range of male shells were 31.5-122.5 mm and weight range were 53.75-286.08 gram, while the females shells have width range of 78.4-120.5 mm and weight range of 69.38-229.08 gram. Fecundity of mangrove crabs (Scylla serrata) ranges between 345,923-1,472,639 eggs with mean value of 646.194. Diameter of the egg curve shows that the mangrove crabs were total spawner, which means totally discharge their eggs.

Abstract

Cancer has become a global health problem arisen from exposure to benzo(a)pyrene. Interleukin-2 is one of immune system components believed to play roles in eradicating cancer. Cobra venom has antitumor effect and also contain protease which could boost up immune system. This research was aimed at analyzing Naja sputatrix venoms effect to increase interleukin-2 level in blood sera of mice induced by benzo(a)pyrene. Four group of Balb-C mice were used. The first group (control) and second group (treatment with Naja sputatrix venom) consist of 5 mices. There are 6 mices used in group 3 and 4, both were injected intramuscularly by benzo(a)pyrene (0,3L/0,01mL oleum oil) at day 1, 8 and 15. Three months after, observation was carried out to see changes occured in their liver and lungs. Naja sputatrix venom 0,1 mL (diluted in saline 1:100) was given to group 2 and 4 for 30 days. Blood was collected from all groups and centrifuge to form sera. Level of interleukin-2 in sera was measured by ELISA method. The results show that Group 2 has the highest mean level of interleukin-2 (136,837 pg/mL), and group 3 has the lowest (8,996 pg/mL). Level of interleukin-2 in group 4 is slightly higher than group 3 (10,632 pg/mL). Kruskal-Wallis analysis result come with Sig. 0,155; therefore shows no significance(p>0,05). It is therefore concluded that Naja sputatrix venom do not increase interleukin-2 level in blood sera of mice induced by benzo(a)pyrene

Abstract

Information of original plants of Citrus reticulata Blanco ssp Tawangmangu is necessary to support breeding programs and efforts of conservation, since its massive population decreased because of CVPD infection in 1980s.This research was done in four villages in Kecamatan Tawangmangu: Banaran, Kalisoro, Blumbang, and Gondosuli by means of counting the plants with the right habitus and interviewed with the owner concerning its history. Geographical and morphological data were collected. Morphological data were analyzed by means of hierarchial cluster analysis. The result pictured as dendogram showed that 22 accession of original Citrus reticulata Blanco ssp Tawangmangu in 10 cultivation plot (9 plot in Blumbang and one plot in Gondosuli) were clustered in six groups, with 81,25% similarity. Informasi mengenai induk jeruk keprok asli Tawangmangu (Citrus reticulata Blanco ssp Tawangmangu) sangat diperlukan untuk mendukung program pemuliaan dan upaya konservasi tanaman tersebut, mengingat hampir punahnya jeruk keprok Tawangmangu akibat penyakit CVPD tahun 1980-an. Persebaran dan keberadaan tanaman induk jeruk keprok asli Tawangmangu merupakan hal penting sebagai dasar awal konservasi dan pengembangan tanaman tersebut. Penelitian dilakukan di empat desa di Kecamatan Tawangmangu, yaitu di Desa Banaran, Kalisoro, Blumbang, dan Gondosuli dengan menyusur area dan mendata keberadaan tanaman induk tersebut dengan melihat habitus, yang diperkuat wawancara dengan petani pemilik tanaman tersebut untuk mengetahui asal tanaman. Selanjutnya dicatat data lokasi dan morfologi dari tanaman. Data ini kemudian digunakan untuk analisis gerombol (cluster analysis). Selanjutnya pengelompokan ditampilkan dalam bentuk dendogram. Penelitian menghasilkan 22 aksesi induk jeruk keprok Tawangmangu yang tersebar dalam 10 plot penanaman di dua desa, yaitu Desa Blumbang dan Gondosuli. Analisis kelompok terhadap 22 aksesi induk jeruk keprok Tawangmangu memiliki tingkat kemiripan 81,25% dan menghasilkan enam kelompok aksesi.

Abstract

The aims of this experiment determined the growth and development of the six cultivars of S. trifasciata by leaf cutting and looked the best growth and development.This study used randomized design experimental with three replications used homogeneous experimental units or no other factors affected the response of outside factors studied.Observations were made every 30 days by measuring buds height, number of buds, root length, and number of roots.The results showed the best average of buds height, root length and root number were on S. trifasciata "Hahnii medio picta", andthe highest number of shoots were on "Hahnii cream". Cultivar "Robusta Futura" has the lowest for shoot height, number of shoots, root length and root number.  Percobaan ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pertumbuhan dan perkembangan keenamkultivarS. trifasciata dengan stek pangkal daun dan mengetahui kultivar mana yang paling optimal pertumbuhan dan perkembangannya dengan menggunakan perbanyakan dengan stek pangkal daun. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan percobaan berupa Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan tiga kali ulangan dimana menggunakan satuan percobaan homogen atau tidak ada faktor lain yang mempengaruhi respon di luar faktor yang diteliti.Pengamatan dilakukan setiap 30 hari sekali dengan cara mengukur tinggi tunas, jumlah tunas, panjang akar, dan jumlah akar. Hasil percobaan menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata pertambahan tinggi tunas, panjang akar, dan jumlah akar  S. trifasciata tertinggi terdapat pada kultivar “Hahnii medio picta”, sedangkan jumlah tunas terbanyak terdapat pada kultivar “Hahnii cream” . Kultivar “Futura Robusta” memiliki nilai terendah untuk tinggi tunas, jumlah tunas, panjang akar dan jumlah akar.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine theee effect of physical, chemical and physiological characteristic of several stages maturity of rambutan cultivar Simacan in Wonosari, Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta. This experimental research was conducted from March to May 2004 used a single factorial Randomized Complete Design (RCD), consisted of six levels, i.e.: A (Rambutan fruit with red stages of maturity), B (Rambutan fruit with yellowness red stages of  maturity), C (Rambutan fruit with yellow  stages of  maturity),  D (Rambutan fruit with greennes  yellow stages of  maturity), E (Rambutan fruit with green  stages of  maturity).  The treatment was done in three replications. The research result showed that (i) According to the physical characteristics (weight of whole fruit, fruit flesh and flesh thickness), rambutan in red stages of maturity (84,340%), the highest sugar content was in the red stages of maturity (86,20%), the highest vitamin C content was in the red stages of maturity (29,151%) and the highest total solution soluble was in the yellow stages of maturity (15,104%) (iii). According to the physiological characteristics, the highest respiration rate was in the greenness yellow fruits stage of maturity ( 0,0495%). Based on the research, it is better for  farmers to harvest rambutan Simacan once they are in red stage. In this stage the rambutan will have its highest sugar, and vitamin C contents.
