Abstract

In Central Bangka, the productivity of red chili pepper remains at a low level, therefore it is necessary to increase the productivity. This study aims to analyze factors that influenced the production of red chili pepper in Central Bangka district. The study was conducted in Central Bangka District in four villages, namely Belilik, Sungkap, Keretak, and Trubus. The four villages were selected as the location of the study as the villages were the location of the national agriculture development of red chili pepper. This study used 40 red chili pepper farmers through simple random sampling.  Ordinary Least Square was used to determine the factors affected the red chili pepper production in Central Bangka. The results showed that an increase in land area, use of fungicide and the correct use of recommended seed could improve the red chili pepper production.  On the other hand, the increase use of the phosphorus fertilizer could decrease the production of red chili pepper. This study also found that the most responsive factor in increasing the production of red chili pepper was size of land.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the comparative analysis of income, costs, and feasibility analysis of agro-industry in brown sugar agro-industry marketing chain in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The research method used a descriptive analysis method. This research was conducted in Girimulyo and Kokap Districts as brown sugar production centers. The method of data collection is done by survey technique. The method of sampling is simple random sampling consisting of brown sugar crafters, collectors, and Central Processing Unit (CPU) of 60 samples. The results showed that the highest profit was in the Central Processing Unit (CPU), then the collectors, and finally at the level of household-scale brown sugar crafters. This is due to the different business scales, limited capital, and raw materials which become the obstacles of the craftsmen in developing their businesses. While seen from the feasibility of the RC ratio, all RC ratios> 1 means that all businesses in the marketing chain are feasible.

Abstract

The current researches about livelihood strategy in small island are not comprehensively revealing the impact of climate change, especially rainfall, on livelihood strategy of household. The objective of this research is to analyze livelihood strategy as the form of adaptation to rainfall anomaly in Tomra Village, Leti District, Southwest Maluku Regency. Village sample is purposively selected, which is specified on villages that conduct farming and fishery activities simultaneously. Household sample is also determined purposively, which is resulting in 25 fisher households. Data are analyzed with qualitative analysis technique to understand the adaptation pattern of fisher household to rainfall anomaly. Moreover, rainfall anomaly is measured with Oceanic Nino Index (ONI) that takes source from the measurement of Sea Surface Temperature (SST). Result of research indicates that rainfall anomaly has disturbed fishing activity as fisher’s livelihood work. This situation is dealt by household by utilizing various livelihood strategies, which among others are intensifying livestock breeding, entering non-farm jobs (working as livestock breeding laborer), and starting off-farm business (being fish trader). Livestock breeding and copra are done by 56 percents households, and this activity contributes for 65.5 percents to the revenue of households. The next household revenue is contributed by coconut commodity (copra), crop (corn), jobs as fisher laborer, livestock breeding laborer, and fish trader.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the segmentation of the organic vegetable market. The research sample consisted of farmers and organic vegetable traders taken by a census of 13 respondents. While the consumer sample is taken by chance, the accidental sample is 40 respondents. The final cluster analysis results show that cluster 1, the Z-score is negative, that is, age and work, and in cluster 2, the Z-score is negative, namely education and income. This means that in cluster 1, consumers' age and occupation are still very minimal to determine choices in choosing organic vegetables for consumption. The same thing also happened in cluster 2, education and consumer income is still low to choose organic vegetables as consumer needs. The most considerable F value (56,156) is seen in the Z-score of education, with a significant number of 0,000, which means the significance is real. This means that educational factors significantly distinguish the characteristics of the two clusters. Or in other word, education in the two clusters is very different between cluster 1 and cluster 2.

Abstract

The development of Agribusiness Sub Terminal aims to increase the added value of farmers, by cutting the long chain of distribution, started from producer farmers, collector traders, large traders to consumers. However, the extension of the chain still occurs, where farmers prefer to sell their agricultural products to intermediary traders than to the Integrated Agribusiness Sub Terminal of  Taniran. The purpose of this research is to find out why farmers prefer to sell agricultural products to intermediary traders than to Integrated Agribusiness Sub Terminal of Taniran. The research approach uses qualitative case study design and informant determination techniques purposively. The results of the research found that there are four reasons why farmers sell their vegetables to intermediary traders, namely: (a) family and social relationship, (b) limited capital, (c) guaranteed marketing of vegetables in a fluctuated price, (d) assistance in the process of sorting, packing and transporting.
