Abstract

This study aimed to determine antioxidant activity of artocarpus camansi fruit extracts from Sigi, Central Sulawesi. This study was conducted by maceration extraction technique, and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) as the source of free radicals, and vitamin C as a positive control. UV-Vis spectrophotometer was used for measuring the absorbance of artocarpus camansi fruit extracts. artocarpus camansi fruit powder was extracted by maceration using ethanol. Various concentrations of artocarpus camansi fruit extracts used were 20, 40, 60, and 80 mg/L. The results showed that the IC50 value for artocarpus camansi (artocarpus communis) fruit extract was 88.715 mg/L, whereas the IC50 value for vitamin C was 37.153 mg/L. Artocarpus camansi (artocarpus communis) fruit extracts are powerful antioxidants category based on IC50 value. The optimum percentage antioxidant activity of artocarpus camansi fruit extracts to inhibit free radical amounted to by 50.65%

Abstract

Determination of concentration of lead (Pb) and iron (Fe) has been conducted in sea water in Paranggi village, district of Ampibabo. The method used is spectrophotometry, namely atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS). Sea water sample is taken in the morning with a 3-point sampling, which is at a distance of ± 5 m, 10 m and 15 m respectively. The 3-point sampling is from the port side of the back end of the ship and the port end of the backrest ship at a distance of ± 5 m ahead. Analysis of Pb level is measured at a wavelength of 217 nm and Fe at a wavelength of 248.3 nm. Result shows that Pb levels at point A is 0.4869 mg/L, at point B is 0.5304, and at point C is 0.4869 while for the Fe levels shows that at point A is 0.3073, at point B is 0.2652, and at point C is 0.2863. The range of the concentration of Pb is between 0.4869 to 0.5304 mg/L. This concentration is higher when compared with the NAB Pb, 0.025 mg/L. Furthermore, the range of the concentration of Fe is from 0.2652 to 0.3073 mg/L. Similarly to Pb result above, this concentration is higher when compared with the NAB Fe, 0.01 mg /L.

Abstract

Bioactive compounds contained in red fruit (pandanus conoideus De Vriese) among others are flavonoids and tannins. The compounds are classified as very powerful antioxidants and can inhibit free radicals. This study aimed to determine the effective concentration of the red fruit extract from Poso as an alternative for lowering blood sugar levels. The separatin method used was boiling. The animals test were 15 male of mice (Mmus musculus) induced by ethylene diamine tetra acetic (EDTA). The mice were divided randomly into 5 groups with different treatments. The first, the second, and the third treatments were given red fruit extract each with a concentration of 10%, 20% and 30%. The fourth treatment was given glibenclamide suspension as a positive control, and the fifth treatments was given Na-CMC as a negative control. Data were analyzed using a statistical analysis of variance (Anova) test followed by Duncan test. The results showed that the preclinical test of red fruit extract reduced blood sugar levels of mice, and the most effective concentration was 20% as much as 68% (w/v) with significance level a = 0.05.

Abstract

Research on the antioxidant activity testing has been done using red betel (Piper crocatum) leafs in Palu, Central Sulawesi. This research was conducted to determine the IC50 value and antioxidant activity of red betel leafs extracts which has the ability as a natural antioxidant. This research was conducted with an experimental method using an extraction maceration technique, DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-pikrilhidrazil) as free radicals, vitamin C as a positive control, UV-Vis spectrophotometer as an antioxidant test equipment with red betel leafs extracts as samples. Samples of red betel leaves were used as much as 30 grams, and the solvent were absolute ethanol. Various concentrations of the red betel leafs extracts were 20 ppm, 40 ppm, 60 ppm, and 80 ppm. Testing of antioxidant activity was done by using a UV-Vis Spectrophotometer and IC50. The results showed that the IC50 value of the red betel leafs (Piper crocatum) extracts was 47.45 ppm. The red betel leafs extract was categorized into a very powerful antioxidant based on IC50 value, where the optimum percentage of red betel leaf extract activity in inhibiting free radical was 81.82%.

Abstract

The research has been conducted on the adsorption of cadmium(II) ion from its solution by using biomassa roots and stems of water spinach (Ipomoea Aquatic Forsk). Theaim of the research was to determine optimum pH and concentration of cadmium(II) metal adsorbed by biomass root and stems of water spinach. The method used this study was laboratory experiments with 0.1 grams of roots and stems of water spinach powder as adsorbent and 25 mL of the cadmium(II) solution. The variation of pH was 1, 2.3, 4.5, 6.7, and 8, while the concentration was 100 ppm, 200 ppm, 300 ppm, 400 ppm, 500 ppm, 600 ppm, and 700 ppm. Determination of cadmium(II) ion adsorbed by the adsorbent has been performed using atomic adsorption spectrophotometer (AAS). The measurement showed that the optimum pH of cadmium(II) ion adsorbed by the root of water spinach was at pH 4, and by the stems was at pH 3. While the optimum concentration of metal cadmium(II) solution adsorbed by the biomass of roots and stems of water spinach was 600 ppm, the same as the adsorption powerof 91.862 mg/g for root and 91.118 mg/g for stems respectively.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the optimum condition on the extraction process of mercury ions with the variables of study on the ratio of membrane phase volume and internal phase volume (Mp:Ip) and the extraction time which will provide the greatest percent extraction. Sample used in this study was an artificial sample containing Hg(II) ions with a concentration of 10 mg/L. Hg(II) ions will be distributed into internal phase through membrane phase formed from a mixture of surfactants, kerosene and chelating compounds. Concentration of mercury ions remained in the samples was analyzed using a UV-VIS spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 490 nm with ditizon as a complex. The optimum condition was achieved at a volume ratio of membrane phase (Mp) with internal phase (Ip) of 2:2, and the extraction time was for 10 minutes, where percent extractions were 66.11% and 82.23%, respectively.

Abstract

A research on the extraction of lead(II) ion has been done using emulsion liquid membrane technique. This research used a laboratory experiment method by using benzoyl acetone as a carrier, paraffin liquid as the membrane, a solution of nitric acid as an internal phase, Span-80 as a surfactant, and lead(II) solution as the sample. This research was conducted to determine the optimum extraction condition of lead(II) ions in solution which includes the span-80 concentration variations (2 - 5%) and the pH of the external phase variations (2 – 4). Determination of the concentration of lead(II) ions in the external phase is done using a Spectro Direct. The results showed that the concentration of span-80 that produces a maximum extraction percentage is 3%. Moreover, the pH of the external phase which produces the maximum percentage extraction at pH 2 with extraction percentage of 74.36%.

Abstract

The research regarding the natural insecticide capacity of squeeze combination of cassava (dioscoreahispida Dennst) and tobacco’s extract has been done. The purposes are to measure the capacity of squeeze combination of cassava and tobacco’s extract as a natural insecticide and to determine the most effective combination as natural insecticide. The method was the laboratory experiments by using squeeze cassava and tobacco’s extract with the comparison ratio (in mL) as follow; 0:100, 25:75, 50:50, 75 : 25, and 100 : 0. The using of various comparisons is to determine the most effective combination as natural insecticide. The data were analyzed by the statistical test analysis of variance (ANOVA) with a 95% confidence level. The result shows that the squeeze combination of cassava and tobacco’s extract reduce the capacity of natural insecticide which is dioscorin compound in cassava and nicotin in tobacco.However, the most effective treatment to kill rice pest is the mixture of cassava and tobacco 0 mL : 100 mL, and also 100 mL : 0 mL.

Abstract

Moringa (moringa oleifera Lam) leaves contains many molecules as inhibitors for free radicals such as phenolic compounds (phenolic acids, flavonoids, quinones, coumarins, lignans, stilbenes, tannins), nitrogen compounds (alkaloids, amines, betalain), vitamins, terpenoids (including carotenoids), and several other endogenous metabolites as antioxidants. This study aimed to determine the antioxidant potency of water and ethanol extracts of moringa (moringa oleifera Lam) leave obtained by maceration and dekok. The concentration of free radical 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) was analyzed using UV-Vis spectrophotometer after addition of various concentrations of Moringa leaves extracts. Various concentrations of moringa leave extracts used were 20 ppm, 40 ppm, 60 ppm and 80 ppm. Vitamin C solutions as the positive control were prepared on similar various concentrations. The negative control was prepared using DPPH solutions dissolved in absolute ethanol. The results indicated that the ethanol extract of moringa leaves prepared by maceration method showed the antioxidant potency with an IC50 value of 22.1818 ppm, but the IC50 value of water extract of moringa leaves prepared by dekok was 57.5439 ppm. While, the IC50 value of Vitamin C was 8.8084 ppm. Based on the IC50 data it can be concluded that Vitamin C is a stronger antioxidant than moringa leaves extracts.

Abstract

Many efforts have been done in order to increase the quality of education. One of them is to improve the instructional process. The purpose of this research was to find out the difference of the grade X student’s learning outcomes at SMA Negeri 1 Marawola through the application of cooperative learning of buzz group type and conventional one on the topic of periodic table. The population was the grade X students in the academic year of 2013/2014. The samples were 25 grade XB students as the experimental group (buzz group typpe instruction) and 25 grade XA students as the control group (conventional instruction). The data were collected by using the test on the element periodic system. The testing of the research data was carried out by the t-test statictic analysis of two parts with prerequisite testing: normality and homogenity. It was obtained that the average scores of the experimental group and the control group that is 76.2 and 73.4. Based on the hypothesis analysis with to use statistic t-test it was obtained that tcalculated = 2.89 and ttable = 2.02 on the α = 0.05. this means that H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected, for the the tcalculated was in the H0 rejection. This indicates that there is a difference of the student’s learning outcomes instructed by the cooperative learning of buzz group type and the conventional one at SMA Negeri 1 Marawola.
